Fuel cap recess
« on: June 20, 2010, 11:08:42 pm »
I'm looking to recess a 2.75" Monza fuel filler cap in the top of the rear quarter panel on my 67 FB project, not Eleanor style but more like a Dodge Charger.  I figure I can contact a metal spinner but there's bound to be something I can cut and paste out of an old wreck somewhere.  I saw one on ebay for the Mach 1 gas cap but it is too large in diameter.  It needs to be between 95 and 100mm diameter and about 4-6mm deep.  I am going to hit a couple of wreckers over the next few weekends but thought someone out there may know exactly what car I can defile to get what I need.

TIA, Mike

I could not link it either, so copied to my Photobucket site, then linked it.

I could probably make you one if you give me the inner & outer dimensions (mud map will do).

Steff

He is looking for the sheet metal recess surround, not the filler cap, as he has one.

"2.75" Monza fuel filler cap" in his first post.

Also, this one, with a 3 1/2" ID  (I think it's the same as the first, without the inlet pipe)

EDIT: Oops, right you are, Kerry.... Saw the pic, couldn't see the forest, for the tree's.....

I got a 100mm one for you from a XL falcon wgn wreck , which i think will suit because it has a slight curve on it. The 1/4 panel next to it on one side of the filler is bent , but once cut out will straighten easy . You are welcome to it .

There is a trick to posting pics from "Hot Rod" and other similar on line mags.

Here is your original code

And here is the modified code to make it display.  Note the plus signs (+) have been replaced with a (%20)

pity the caps arnt lockable ,always put a key lockable cap on IMO

Why? I would think you'd park your car off street, or in a garage, overnight?
I'd be more worried about the car getting nicked, than the petrol....

That      makes         perfect     sense...Shouldn't the  z% read +z%? that would also work with the 20+ and 4%0! Dont you think?

Hey thanks for all the prompt responses fellas!

First up I learned something about HTML code today - I should stay away from it.....

Kerry, you are correct, I already have the Monza cap and tunnel for the pipe fitting. It's the pommie one.  As I'm wanting to recess it into the quarter rather than just bolt it on (which would be easier), I was looking for some solution and appreciate your offer of knocking something up for me.

As scott66stang is local to me, I'd like to take up your offer mate which is much appreciated.  I'm in Bull Creek, which is only a stone's throw from you so can take a run down to Baldivis any time it suits you.  I'll drop you a u2u.

Cheers, Mike
