They will ignore the data plate and look for one on the car. There is one on the right hand side but it is hidden under the fender lip.

Also one somewhere else hidden that one of the members will explain where to find.

VIN is stamped on the left front apron where you can see it, the next one is under the guard edge still on the left on the rear fender apron (basically in line with the front one but covered) You will find it under the guard lip just along side the rear top bolt behind the tower.

Other VIN is stamped on the right hand front fender apron under the guard lip.

No "hidden" VIN's on Mustangs.

3 for 65/6. 2 on the left fender skirts (one visible in the fender cutout)  1 on the right fender skirt.

67/68/69/70  2 were stamped (complete VIN stamped in 69, incomplete VIN in 1970), also on the dash plate from 68 on.

67/8 stamped on the left/right fender skirts, 69/70 stamped on the tower plate under the fender.

Shelby's I have seen them in different spots (& untidy) especially during the changeover from the LAX facility to AO Smith.

a "confedential" VIN

I would unbolt, take a pic & then bolt it back up. Other way is to strip the paint (mask off & paint strip so as not to remove any metal) in the exposed VIN's area & repaint after rego.

On the car in my avatar, the VIN on the left was not legible, so I placed a Shelby tag on that & then made the fender cutout on the right hand side. That exposed the VIN over there & satisfied the authorities.

You can see both in this pic of the car mentioned above...

My 69 Metuchen R code has no stamping on the aprons!!!
Has the door tag and windscreen tag. According to the CJ site there were the odd car that got through and was missed. Motor, g/box has the vin on them.
Checked the shock tower and the rad support but non there either!!
Is this plasable Kerry?? as that is what I have!!

Yep, more common than you would think. They should be on the outer shock towers here (you can just see it near the outer edge...

69candy , Just reread your last post, some Metuchen cars in 69 had the VIN stamped on the front inner aprons. On Foresights Q the VIN on the right hand side actually runs off the panel.

It was common to find no VIN stamped or incorrect in some way, this factory was the worst when it came to VIN stamping in my opinion.
