VIN number query
« on: May 12, 2010, 10:34:01 pm »
The VIN on my 1966 GT convertible reads 6F08A743822. I recently purchased a Collector's Originality Guide and read that the last documented build date at the Dearborn Plant was 12 August 1966. According to my VIN that is the date of production of my Mustang so I am assuming it was one of the last off of the assembly line (as Dearborn has the last documented date of all the plants).

The guide also mentions the numbers of units made for 1966 being 607,568 total, 72,119 of these convertibles. My unit number I believe is 743822 and I am wondering how this actually fits with the actual numbers of units produced. Am I interpreting this incorrectly?

Can you u2u or email me a pick of your vin and door tag if you dont want to post them. Im thinking that the the 7 in your vin is actually a 1 but cant say without seeing both the stamped vin and door tag to get an idea of dates etc.

No need to posta picture of your door tag, i can confirm your sequential number is fine.  the last known vin for 66 mustangs out of dearborn is 744300.

Just for the record dearborn changed from a 3****** vin number to a 7****** vin number towards the end June 1966 and continued this until August 1966 when production of 66 model discontinued.

i also own a very late Dearborn mustang with a 7***** vin number.
MWIZZ you car is definately very late production car.

if you have other questions, please let me know.
