Will 69 deluxe seatbelts pass rego in WA?
« on: May 02, 2010, 11:49:00 pm »
I thought id ask the forum before trying to extract any blood from the government stone

Just wondering if the deluxe seatbelts in a 69 will pass rego or if they need to be changed?

They are the type where there is a lap sash that clicks in and then a seperate shoulder sash that clicks in.

I'll ask for you tomorrow Lee, getting mine checked over for rego. I strongly suspect not though - I was told that if you have a lap belt fitted they make you remove it as it isn't compliant. Apparently no belt is better than a non-compliant belt  ;w.

It would be a shame if it messes with the whole concours thing youre going to be doing, personally though I'll upgrade any car I'm driving to proper lap sash belts.

Cheers Rick that would be appreciated

If they have enough evidence to prove that they are unsafe then i dont have a problem changing them. After all whats more important, yours and your passagengers lives or some concours points!

I wonder what the rules are with concours cars having mods that are imposed by the law. My guess is in the trailered class youd lose points but not in the driven class?

I'd say you're right there, that makes sense. Interesting times though, with imports now having to have child restraint anchors fitted to them (not in W.A. yet) full on concours cars just wouldn't be licensed I suppose?

Lee, you will not lose points in any class if it is a gov mandated regulation. To enter a concourse your car has to be registered, so if the belts have to be fitted for that purpose, then it is a no point deduction.

Sorry Lee, couldn't get back to you yesterday. I checked with the examiner about the belts, he said they would not be compliant so would have to be removed when the car goes over the pits. A moot point anyway given what ozbilt posted, looks like proper seat belts are the go and you won't have points deducted. :(

Of course, you would never put good ADR spec ones on for a roadworthy then replace them with restored originals would you...

Especially if you'd just spend $800 getting yours restored by Python restorations ;]

They look cumbersome. I've never used them but from the way they've been described to me they look pretty awkward, although they would allow easier entry to the back seat (nothing to get tangled in).
