67-68 Fastback
« on: April 11, 2010, 09:22:27 am »
Hi all,

Nice forums, a wealth of info!

I have had the Mustang bug for a long time. In around 5 years time I see myself satisfying this bug. I would want to do a complete restoration and rebuild.

I have worked out how much I could save for the project and I believe that I will have $15k-$20k for the car. I would be fine with importing or purchasing locally.

Because I will be restoring, the car can be in rough condition with minor rust, the engine can be barely running or dead, but ideally all the interior parts etc would still be there.

So my question to you guys is, am I being realistic, would I be able to get a Fastback for $15k?

I appreciate any help!

67-8 fastback for $15k - very unlikely, unless the bottom drops out of the market.
Have seen one for $24k but that had no motor or box, and needed a lot of panel work.  Some interior was missing as well.
The cheaper the car the more you spend on panel and paint.

Ive been looking at 67 fastbacks for a few months now and have found if you wanna get one for that price youll need to import one, then its another 5k upwards to import.

So importing and I would be able to grab an average fast back for $20k? (+importing costs)?

EDIT - I should mention v8, 6 cylinder is not an issue for me as I would be doing a new transplant!

Hopefully in 5 years time a fast back will be worth 5 times that much.

Dilan

I think Rock65 may be on the money with that statement.

The classic car market is slowly climbing again and in 5 years time, I see the fastbacks (especially the 67/68) climbing another $10k in price due to the demand

Theres a 67 "S" code here in Florida now for $8750usd (project car) and Im buying another 67 Fastback next week for $7800usd (project car). There is also another 67 "C" code about 2 hours away with all panels to replace the old with a 390 FE and C6 for the swap out...asking $10k.

There is also a complete driver in red for $12-14K (sorry cant remember exact price)

$15k landed can work but maybe not in 5 years time

If you want some more info email me at

matt@shermatt.com or visit our website www.shermatt.com

can show you some pics of what you'll expect for that sort of money. Normally, 67/68 projects sell roughly around $10k or under

Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated! I can't wait to get started on my project.

used2have1 thanks for that, I  completely forgot about craigs list. I have been using ebay to look at prices/cars. Any other websites you fellas could recommend?

Matt, I will shoot you an email sometime later in this week and detail what I am chasing.

I know it will be a while before purchasing the car itself, but posting this thread has motivated me to save more quickly!
