Child restraints for early Mustangs
« on: March 27, 2016, 12:10:47 pm »
Hi,
Just wondering if it possible to carry young children in the back seat of a 65-68 Coupe, i.e., can you have properly fitted anchor points fitted so that you can use child restraint seats. In particular I'm referring to the forward facing restraints for children 6 months to 4 years of age.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter

I have a 67 FB with two anchor points installed as part of the rear seatbelt upgrade required for registration in QLD. So yes, as long as they are a certified installation.
There was a similar thread on here recently, IIRC it was for a coupe which had speaker holes in the parcel shelf.

I have a 65 coupe with 3 anchor points professionally fitted. All 3 anchor points are welded in place. Motor trimmers are probably the best place to start.

You can get seatbelts from Hemco in ballarat. They have under parcel shelf retractors  for any car. All they need to know is the buckle lenght. Very good ive used them to put these in my 57 chev. Very neat looking when their mounted underneath

I got this message from Geoff from All Vehicle Restraints, he installed the lap sash seat belts in my fastback.

I have been doing a few mustangs with various combinations of seatbelts. Done a couple of  convertibles recently 64 & 66 which I thought forum people may be interested in.

I fitted a lap belt & a child restraint anchor bolt. The rear panel behind seat was reinforced with a plate going down into boot area. The reinforcing plate is then used for child anchor bolt
