Title: 67 or 68 Fastback
Post by: stangLover on March 06, 2012, 10:31:18 am
Hi everyone,

It's been a while and :omg:I can't believe I'm back on here shopping for another one......

I'm after a 67 or 68 fastback project.

But please for those who know the last 'project' I had, I do not want to go through the same resto as I did the last time.

WAY above my budget for now.
Ye, I'm requiring a matching twin to my eleanor.
Just after something that requires paint and little work to get on the road.
In my case, it doesn't matter the condition of the paint or interior, it'll all have to be stripped and redone in the eleanor scheme and deluxe interior.
So I'm thinking either a rough looking runner or one that has had body work already done but an unfinished project.
Even if it has no motor is not a problem.....
Probably around the 20k.

So am I dreaming with that kind of budget?

It seems like to get something from U.S you'd have to allow about 8k just to take care of transportation, GST, customs etc.. etc..
So for a 20k budget you'd have to be looking at cars going for around the 12-14k.
Me think, best bet is to try and find an unfinished project somewhere is Aus.
Would that sound about right?

What kind of money would you be looking at spending for an end result?

I have a mate with a nice 68 FB, he initially brought it to build an Eleanor but when he got it the body was too nice and he couldn't change it. Now he is thinking about selling it to buy a project body and start from scratch. He wants to do the full restomod/Eleanor build. It's a 351W, auto, plenty of new bits on the engine and around the car. I think he'd want somewhere up in the high 40's.

I haven't got a lot of pics but here is one with my 66

Hi Ash,

That looks like a beautiful fastback!
I wouldn't want to molest a good looking fastback, I'm in the same opinion as your friend it seems.
I would need to take that car and strip the paint off it completely, add the eleanor kit on, which gets rid of the whole front end, bonnet and boot.
To me its a shame, as I love the shape of a stock 67 or 68 fastback, but not as much as an Eleanor...obviously..lol

What I'm after is probably an unfinished project, something that needs to be painted, and if it doesn't have a motor or gearbox and needs the interior to be reupholstered then that is not a problem either.

Either the above or a complete running fastback but one that could use with a new paint job and a freshen up...

I think as happy as he was with the car he brought, he got it from Nevada and brought it online, he was also a little disappointed as he had his heart set on doing just as you plan. The body and paint really is fantastic on it. It was the first thing I said to him when I saw it, that it would be quite a shame to change.

I thought I'd just put it out there in case you were after a great base to start with. I've seen what others have done on here with excellent condition cars and changed them.

It's all good, I know where you are coming from. :thumb:

Did you see that red one on Florida finds, I think it was 19k? I wonder how much Matt could get it down?

Hey Baz.

Check with Shermatt. He posted in his 'Florida Finds' thread a 67 FB project for $8.5K USD. Might be a bit rough for that price, but I wouldn't think Matt or Sheri would list it if it was a real dog.

Cheers,
Frank.

Ah ...  Zing !

I thought it was a bit cheap.

I dont have a Facebook account and I am trying to avoid it.

Thanks Ash for pointing that out.

Cheers,
Frank.

I wish I didn't have one either Frank, I hate the thing with a passion. But it works quite well for advertising and is easy to upload pictures to. That's the only reason I'm on there, otherwise it can burn!!:soap:

:omg:

So you have obviously recovered from the last session of rebuilding a car.

Give us a yell if you have any problems starting it  :sarcasm:

Another thread to look forward to.

:soap:.........I still have nightmares every now and again, especially when I see the pics from 'cage's' build:cry:

But it seems like the push for a twin for the business is the culprit.

I'm hoping this time around, with the right base, it won't be so much of a heart ache.

Geez, you reckon it gave you nightmares:shocked:

At least you will know what you are in for this time around. Although you wont buy a dunger to start with this time:thumb:

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone here works or knows of container companies.
I need a quote on dropping one off at a persons home to load a non-running car with parts, then to be picked up and brought to Sydney.

So drop off at the border of WA and brought to Sydney.
The car has no running gear, so don't think it can be towed, that's why the seller has suggested a container to be dropped off at his home, he will load everything into the container, then container can be picked up to be brought back to Sydney.

Regards, Bas

Was that a green one with the RRS gear? My mate with the blue 68 also looked into buying that one when it was on ebay.
If that's it, the ebay sale must have fell through?

Ye, that's the one.
I picked it up for a bargain.

But I'm dreading the work involved.

First, I just need to find out how much its going to cost to bring it home.

He sure seem keen to move it when he had it listed. Did you see the auction? He started at a $1 and said what ever it goes for, it goes for, he just wanted it gone.

I've sent a car from Newcastle to WA before. The buyer organised it and from memory it was about $1200 and I think it was through Patrick's.

Thanks for that, I will google Patrick's.

I think the parts alone are almost worth as much as the asking price, he threw in the car as well..lol

This should be it

http://www.patrickautocare.com.au/

There sure were a lot of big dollar parts with the car. My mate was close to going ahead with it but I think the unknown and the transport through him off for what price it got up to on ebay.

Can't wait to see the build start though!

Damn. Sorry, I didn't know that. I only suggested them as I knew they did Aus wide transport.

What about just ringing someone like Toll and asking about container transport? Would you even have to mention there was a non running car inside?

They do coupe to fastback conversions, not sure if that one is though you'd have to ask them.
