I heard on the news this morning that a 1965 Mustang was stolen at gun point from a house in Wattle Grove WA.
As basically all of us on this site own a Mustang I think that's some thing we should all be concerned about.
Does any one here know what the car actually was and how this all came about???
I hope who ever lost there car gets her back safely and the police catch these thieves fast!!!

Scary stuff. I have a mate that sells GPS units for tracking, might have to look him up.
-
I wonder if the coupe was any thing special or just a typical classic??
It will be interesting to see what the news is later, arnt one of the bike gangs around there???
Scarry stuff
You can buy GPS trackers from Ebay for a couple of hundred $'s.
-
Acting Detective Sergeant Nicole Winstone said the coupe was stolen after six men, wearing balaclavas with torches on their heads and brandishing a handgun, burst into a house in Phar Lap Road, Wattle Grove, and forced the owner to sign transfer papers for the car and demanded the keys.
-
If they forced the owner to sign over ownership to them, then wouldn't they have to at some stage say who the car was being transferred to ? I suppose they used fake names and addresses.
Would think they would just break it up for parts.
Glad to see they were able to find it using GPS. Pity they didn't catch the pr*cks.
Cheers,
Frank.

that woulda been sweet, imagine the look on their faces as the bearcat storms in.
image shows a 67ish fastback out the front, could this be another story for media watch.

"forced the owner to sign transfer papers for the car and demanded the keys"
Hmmm sounds like the car was taken in payment for something the owner didn't have the cash for. Or is that too Mafia style.

That was running through my mind too - I mean why waste time getting transfer papers signed when as soon as a police report was filed the legality of the transfer papers would be nullified anyway.

These are the toughest concourse judges I've ever seen! :omg:
Looks like they've found a problem with the size of the gap between the trunk and tail light though.....

You would think they were so well organised with wearing balaclavas with torches on their heads, brandishing a handgun and having transfer papers for the guy to sign that they would not of left finger prints.

This what he had fitted to the car

Just saying that what I'd do...
Chase the pricks down and if the pricks kept going.. I would force myself to run the Mustang off the road and get them that way... at least that way the car wouldn't end up in 50 bazzillion pieces and might be salvagable.
Not something I'd want to do to the Mustang, but I could dish out a little deserved pain on the car-jackers.
I know a mate who'd do it.. even if it wasn't his Mustang.

Are there any good reasonably cheap GPS systems without the ongoing payments?

I have one of these fitted to my car.

They work by installing a mobile SIM card. I have a Vodafone SIM that has $20 credit and a 365 day expiry. It works very well.
-
ATR, damn sure I would not be chasing anyone who has a gun at their disposal.................no good being in a pine box just to run your own Mustang off the road!

:agree: I'm with you Johhno... if they are that fair dinkum, they have have it and I would be happy to sit back and let Constable Plod do his work ....
BTW ... I think there is more to the story than what the public have been told via the press and TV .... :drunk:

Thats Perth for ya! :smile01:

"Data" sim card is only meant to cost $5 per month??

Yep, Mustang ownership (even at gunpoint) is taken very seriously over here.

EXHAUSTED
that system sounds great but got a couple of questions for you. Does yours charge off the car battery and if it didnt how long do you think the battery would last as mine has a battery kill switch that I turn off when the car is parked??
Also the External Antenna can you see it as mine is clean lines with an internal radio antenna?
AllThingsRunning
You need an explosive device under the drivers seat, then if the car is stolen by by bad guy. lol

It sends SMS so a pure data SIM is not going to work but $20 for 12 months is better than $5 per month, I think!

I don't have mine completely installed as yet. I'll check into the backup battery life. (good point) The aerials are stick on pads that fit onto the rear window internally, top corners, nothing on the outside.

So if the thief heads straight for the aerials and rips them off you're pretty much in the lurch?

He would have to know where they are & what they are for. How many intelligent car thieves do you think are out there?:smile01: The pads are black single sided stick on only 50 x 15mm hard to make out what they are up against screen rubber!. How else do you think GPS systems get their signal to a satelite. They can't be fitted under metal (signal strength??):kick:
-
Well that system sounds pretty good then. I will have to have a good think now and probably end up buying one.
Cheers Exhausted:hi:
-
I have mine installed and it works great. It keeps track of it's current position on a constant basis and if someone disconnects the antenna it immediately sends and SMS saying it was tampered with. The backup battery only lasts about a day but it will also send an SMS if it is disconnected from teh car battery. The down side is it does have a fairly high current draw so you need to start the car regularly and recharge the battery.

I have mine under the ........

If you are worried about battery getting run down from lack of use look into a solar battery charger. Most will cut off when fully charged so as not to overcharge & cook the battery. They are 'trickle chargers'

stephenslr, 1965 r, spooky and exhausted, have sent individual u2u.

I've got a trickle charger installed to mine in the garage as I only drive it every now and then. Keeps the battery charged nicely.
