1964-1/2 Mustang Horn Problem
« on: January 05, 2010, 08:47:31 am »
horn not functioning. Have connected direct 12V power to horns & function but do not work via steering wheel rim contacts. Looking for fuse to check but can't locate? Does not seem to be a fuse for horn on fuse panel (were you would expect). Mustang repair manual I have seems to indicate fuse for horn is in light switch??? Strange place?? Can anyone help with locating fuse for horn? Have no checked contacts under horn rim, etc as yet. Last problem to solve before going for rego......thanks:+

I assume generator, there is 2 horn contacts in the wheel, which are pretty common.
They are only small, and I have them in stock.

064 PNY, pretty sure there is no fuse for the horn circuit but there is a relay for 64 Mustangs. Not 100% sure where its located but I think it is very near to your regulator as this is where it gets power for the horns.
I have a schematic in PDF format, U2U an email address if you want a copy.
cheers.

Finally sorted out horn. The wire from the main wiring loom under the dash to the steering column/horn rim contact was cut....spliced and away it went. Couple of things noted that may help someone in the future.

1. The early 65 mustangs (64-1/2) only have a single contact brush under the horn rim.
2. There is no fuse for the horn circuit.
3. Tested relay by puting 12V directly accross it....clicked away happily. Indicated relay was good.
4. Tested horns by running 12V direct to them....operated which told me horns were OK.
5. Then did continuity tests on horn wire out of the relay running to contact under horn rim (this is when found broken wire under dash).

I wonder why the wire was cut??? I hope that on the way to the rego. office , the horn doesn`t stick on whilst driving behind a group of Bandito`s :w
