Manual 2019 GT Convertible
« on: August 24, 2021, 04:48:16 pm »
Hello forum, I'm thinking about importing a 2019 convertible GT with a manual transmission from the UK. Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this in respect to:

1) Is the manual a good option for convertible - will be a weekend cruiser so not put off by the prospect of sitting in daily traffic constantly shifting gears
2) Friendly import agents you can recommend that can give me the low down on costs / pitfalls

Why wouldn't you just buy one locally?

Took the words right out of my mouth. Why would you go down this track? It would have to be mighty cheap in the UK to offset the transport and customs charges and then may or may not meet the ADR's here.

As to the question, I don't think it makes any difference whether its a vert or a coupe, whether a manual is a good idea is primarily down to  whether that's what you want. If these new fangled Mustangs interested me a manual would be what I wanted.

Rules may have changed now we don't have a car industry in Australia. But I thought there was restrictions on importing a cars that are available new from an Australian dealer??? Manual convertible may make it doable.

Ah, didn't know that, so withdraw my uninformed comment. I guess whether bringing one in is a good idea depends on how much you want a manual vert as opposed to an auto vert or a manual coupe.

If you wanted a manual vert here in Australia it would be cheaper to buy an auto one here and ask MustangMotorsport to convert it for you.

Just the GST applied on importing a car would cover a lot of that cost.

Good point Shane. If they were produced with 3 pedals for other RHD markets it should be pretty straightforward to change it. I guess the manual boxes are TKO's.
