« on: April 13, 2021, 04:14:13 pm »
Seeking advice on quality shocks for 65 mustang. The car is lower than standard by about two inches of that makes any difference.
I note Scott drake do them but I can also buy the right size from super cheap, Repco etc.
just want something good without paying Komi prices
Regards
Tony

KYB Gas-A-Just are a good mid-range shock for the 65's.

About $450ish for the full set of four corners.

Have used both Pedders Comfort Gas and Sports gas on a 65 and a 68. The sports were a little harder but both travelled well.

Personally I've found the KYB Gas-adjust a bit too firm on the front of both my '67s, IMO the springs being over-controlled and so not reacting to lesser bumps in the road. I don't like a soft car that wallows but I also don't like Mustangs with roller skate like stiff suspension that skips across road surfaces.
So on my present car I swapped over to Gabriels on the front, inexpensive and am happier with them.
On the back I use Monroes, they seem just fine.
Just MO.

I have Bilsteins on my 65 Fastback front and rear - might be a little more than you wish to pay though. Got them from Street or Track in the US.

I have Koni shocks and King springs, really happy with the result. Not incredibly expensive for a normal use car.
