351c 1969 headers
« on: September 12, 2020, 08:48:10 am »
Hi all,

I looked over the previous forums but don’t seem to be able to get a final position on the best headers to get for a 351c 2v auto with power steering.  There also seems to be a few supporting keeping the current and cleaning out the current manifolds.  Any direction would be great.

Second question is the exhaust system to go with the headers.  Custom stainless for $2000 or a off the shelf for $1500 with x over... improve the sound and hp.

Thanks again in advance for the advice.
Cheers Glen

Hey Glen -
I'm thinking that the 67-69 Engine bay was pretty much identical.. if that is the case...
I've got a 351C in my 67, running Patriot headers (ceramic coated) bought them online from the states.
Perfect fit with no mods.
My 67 is T bar Auto with PS. (Ram style)

I actualy purchased Manual headers (as they were out of stock for the Auto ones) and these still fitted perfectly....keep away from Hooker.. they don't fit.

Hope that helps

Just wanted to check if these were the ones you got or a different variant...Patriot Exhaust Long Tube Headers Ceramic Coated 1-3/4" 2BBL 351C 1971-1973.

Again mine is a 1969 with a 351c 2v LHD, power steering and automatic.

This was front the CJ Pony Parts website.

Thanks

Hey Glen -
Probably not those ones.

These ones would be correct though.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Patriot-Exhaust-H8407-B-Ford-Specific-Fit-Headers-1967-1970-Ford-Mustang-Cougar/114402835026?epid=214987251&hash=item1aa2f0ba52:g:0LoAAOSwkf1fWz9C

I looked on JEGS website and I can see the ceramic ones.
https://www.jegs.com/i/Patriot-Exhaust/737/H8407-1/10002/-1?year=1969&make=FORD&model=MUSTANG&submodel=BASE

The actual headers I got are these ones.
Through JEGS. (Via ebay US)

Hi Daz
I would be interested in seeing a few picks of the engine bay and fit please.

LHS and RHS - and yes, I can still remove the plugs no issues.. it's tight but not hard.
Let me know if there is a specific pic you're after.. and I'll try to get one.

Daz,

I'm assuming these will be spot on...

One more question.  Black painted finish verse ceramic coating.  The difference is about double the price $1,000 verse $500... worth the extra $?

Ceramic coated headers will last longer and not heat up your engine bay.

So I'll go with these from Summit.  Now need to organize the right exhaust system.

Good stuff - sorry been busy on not on the Forum for a bit. You will also need to get a drop bracket for the steering ram mount. Sorry forgot to mention that - I think they pretty cheap.

Cheers DAZ, its a left hooker so your options are available, mine is RHD and the only option when fitting a Clevo into a 67 and extractors is custom.

Also unless your already running one.. you will need the smaller starter (they're better than the old style and turn the motor over heaps quicker). I just got a $150 one off ebay.. reduction gear/high torque I think they're called.

I also had to re-route the power steering lines.. when you get to that part I'll send some pics. I just repalced the main HP hose.. cheap as from Rock Auto and worth doing whilst your playing. Unless you get someone to make a custome one to fit neater.

ceramic headers will heat up the engine bay nearly as much as non ceramic ones will guaranteed.

remflex gaskets are the best i have found but the soft aluminum ones work well also, all the others are complete crap.

Just another question, 2.5inch or 3 inch exhaust system?  Was going to do 2.5.

Thanks

Hi Glen size of the exhaust I believe is relevant to how much you have modified  your engine, some make the mistake of going too big and that can lead to a loss of performance. Like choosing another carburetor, when looking for a performance exhaust system bigger is not always better. :thumb:
