Borgeson Power Steering Pump
« on: June 22, 2020, 09:22:24 pm »
I've just done a power steering pump up grade on my 69 CJ. The car originally did not have power steering and the guys doing the restoration asked if I'd want it upgraded. So I ended up with PS box & Thompson pump. I always considered the steering to be pretty ordinary & noisy and just accepted it. Any way the pump stated leaking 2 weeks ago and I ordered a pump of Customs Mustangs. After installation i noticed a huge difference, way better than expected, no noise and more responsive.

A few note worthy items was my belt config was 3 crank shaft pulleys, 3 water pump and 2 on the alternator. The kit spacers required 1 alternator / water pump belt to be removed to allow for the PS pump belt. I added 2 extra spacers and used longer bolts to keep the original belt config. Another thing was the pump return tube was not a long bent one so I used a short barbed elbow to direct the hose from the exhaust. A male inverted flare fitting is required for the pump.
