88 fox body ADR compliance difficulties
« on: September 13, 2018, 01:03:59 pm »
Hi all
Ive imported an 88 model mustang SSP notchback and im going through the process of making it ADR compliant
Most of the necessary work has been done but my engineer has thrown me a curveball in regards to the lighting
He is unsure if the colour and intensity of the front and rear indicators and reverse lights is correct to our standards

He has given me two options past this
1. Find another 87-93 fox body that has been complied in australia with the same indicators and reverse lights
Get a video of these lights operating and a picture of the vehicles ADR compliance plate as proof of compliance

2 Send the car to the university of Queensland (im in NSW) to have the lights tested
Apparently they are the only place around that does the testing he requires
Obviously id rather not have to do this and while ive considered getting a new engineer ive already paid this guy for some of what hes done and id have to pay the new engineer to go over everything from the start if i was to switch

If there is anyone here who would be willing to help me out with this it would be much appreciated!
I understand that asking for a picture of somebodys compliance plate might be a bit much private info for some but i figured its worth a shot anyway
Thanks! And sorry for the essay

Ps ive included a picture of my fox on the day i picked it up from the importer

Speak of the devil and I shall appear :lmao:

Ok my sons 88 has after market headlights in it with clear sides and orange bulbs inserted

The rear has orange bulbs inserted in the clear reversing lenses

Thats how it was registered in NSW before we moved it to QLD 3 weeks ago

Out of curiosity does it have an aussie compliance plate?
Yeah the engineer wont accept aftermarket headlights unfortunatley
The rear lights sound like theyre identical to mine
And yes on a sidenote the engineer being a bit of a pain in the rear about this, it really seems quite over the top

:agree: With the rainbow of colours of indicators in the new car market these days, why get pedantic on a 30+ year old car? Plus look at all the cars running around with faded indicator lenses, etc.   :ouch:

There is no Aussie compliance plate on it (yet) as we are going to sort couple of things out before registering it here

Cant see why aftermarket headlights are unacceptable as they do the job they are designed for

I agree with others I would be seeking another opinion

I hope you have an easier time with it than ive been having.
Ive heard engineering for imports is a lot more relaxed in Queensland so you should breeze right through it!

CADD,  Chris just go get a normal RWC don't push it . It just has to be in a roadworthy condition for here because it has been registerd in Australia before and you have the proof .

I would look for a different engineer. Doing my RHD conversion the first guy I went with was ridiculous. I changed to someone more realistic. Mind you they all have their quirks.
