Mustang Diff Recomendation
« on: August 01, 2018, 10:38:18 pm »
Please let me know what the best diff for my 65 Mustang 4 speed BTR installation.
I have the standard 8 inch 2.92 diff but this needs to change to a approx 3.27 - 3.45 ratio to suit the 4 speed tranny.
I have heard the EB Falcon 28 spline diff is a good option.
If someone has a diff that suits or recommend where I can get one or if I put a new centre into my existing 8 inch diff please let me know. Cheers

I'd just get new gears put in your existing 8" diff.

I'd just get new gears put in your existing 8" diff.

Plus 1.
Your 8" should already have 28 spline axles. If it's an open wheeler fit a true track and your preferred gears.

If the car is just a cruiser, might as well keep the open wheeler and save the money for fuel so you can drive it more

unless your trans is a close ratio, it will work fine with the gears you currently have but it won't accelerate as fast as it would with the other gears. Keep in mind that a 4 speed has 1 more gear than an original automatic and they work fine with 2.9 gears.

The falcon diff is not an option ,it's too wide and a totally different diff . The factory mustang 8 inch diff is fine . Ratio might be ok but depends on the wheel size also . Just see how it goes and if you don't like it ,performance wise ,let us know and we will work it out for you .
