Mustangs in movies
« on: June 19, 2013, 11:36:32 pm »
After watching Furious 6 (with my Skyline loving teenage son - we disagree on muscle -v- rice burner but I'll talk him round) I thought it'd be cool to see how many movies/TV shows everyone can list that had a Mustang in them.

I'll start with Furious 6 - a 69 Fastback that they destroyed

The obvious one - Gone in 60 Seconds - both the 1974 movie (a 71 Stang modified to look like a 73?) and the Nic Cage movie in 2000 with the 67 Fastback Eleanor.

Steve McQueen in Bullitt with a 68 GT390 FB

Let's see how many we get

GTR34 skylines kick ass.

Im not a Jap car fan, but the R34 is something I wouldn't mind. AWD, insane power, Turbo upgrades, uses power at will, can turn them down for economy and when someone wants to give you a run, turn them up to 800+ HP, cant do that with muscle cars unless they have turbos which is kinda not what you do to them.

That is a seriously fast car. Its also the 'muscle' looking jap car compare to the rest of them. Probably why I like it.

Still, mustang 69 fastback wins!  :pepper:

Be happy he isnt into what my friend likes, Mitsubishi Evolutions which... well... look hideous.

I remember Running on Empty - that was a good movie.  I'm sure I have it on VHS somewhere. Scratch one Monaro and didn't they take the roof off the XY GT as well - using a semi trailer?!

More Mustangs - Transformers movie - 2005 GT modified by Saleen for the LAPD car.

Charlies Angels - Farrah Fawcett (yummmmmmm  ) in a 76 Mustang Cobra II

TV show - Knight Rider in 2008- car was a 2008 Shelby GT500KR

The Night Stalker (1971)
The Night Strangler (1973)

were both movies that led to the Night Stalker TV show with Karl Koljak (Darren McGavin) driving a yellow 66 Convertible.  This show scared the crappers out of me as a kid.  It used to be played on a Saturday night in Melbourne and was introduced by a character called 'Deadly Ernest' - scary for an eight year old, but probably funny to my olds.

Lock up - with Sylvester Stallone. Prison inmates restore a 65 mustang, one of them can not resist and smashes through the doors to take it for a spin in the yard. The guards as punishment destroy the car.. I remember watching it  and shedding a tear..

War of the Worlds
(Tom Cruise gets all the good cars - I am so very partial to the 69 Chevelle in Jack Reacher - it almost makes me want to watch the move even though he is supposed to be playing a 6'7" hulk of a man??!?!? WTF)

I Am Legend

Death race - actually I am ashamed to say I was sober when I sat through that

And yes Driving on Empty - what a classic ...."green...green is nice"

Twins - with Danny DeVito (Julius) and Arnie Schwarzenegger (Vincent)

Julius drives an 80's model convertible in the beginning of the movie before the twins meet for the first time.  It is in shots for the first ten or fifteen minutes or so.

A bit obscure but with young kids we get to watch kids movies sometimes:

The movie "Cars 2" (Disney/Pixar animated) - Brent Mustangburger is a blue 64 1/2  Coupe as one of the race announcers.
A few other classics in there - Aston Martin DB5, E-type Jag, Chevy Monte Carlo?

Wanted, is one I saw not long ago, amazing stunts, but mostly CGI I suspect?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0493464/?ref_=sr_1

and another TV show, Sex in the City, Carrie drives around in a manual 66 Convertible, and crunches the gears all the way.

Cheers

Who's Harry Crumb.

I won’t spoil it but I recall laughing hard at the Mustang scene, if I recall correctly it was the only part in the movie that made me laugh.
