Chuck an export brace on there - will determine whether they have moved or not, and, once installed, will also prevent the towers from moving inwards or outwards.

Hi Boots
just measured my '69 and it is 860mm between centre of shock towers, which is using an export brace, which I had to jack out the towers a little to fit,
hope this helps
