Title: FE 390 Timing Pointer
Post by: Tiny on September 30, 2023, 12:24:53 pm
Hi all, is there a reason why my timing pointer is so far away from the Harmonic Balancer.  The HB is a C4AE-6316-B.  Even the photos I have seen with the same HB is much closer to Timing Pointer.  At first I thought it was that the HB was not on far enough (Wrong Spacer) but if that was the case then the fan belt would not line up.

Can anyone assist

thanks

Think your harmonic balancer is different to what may have originally been there.
Have a look at the pictures on this web site.

Thanks Clubman for the pics.  There seems to be multiple variations of the HB to fit 390's so I think I will need to identify the correct part number and then search for the correct HB.

cheers

the HB is a '64 item, and you have a mismatch with the timing pointer - replacing the pointer would solve your trouble here.
Compare your one (which appears to have the tip cut off) with these:

Excellent thanks Jiffy, I will source the correct length Pointer.  No sure what the one is on my engine but it is certainly to short.

thanks
