Title: Upper Radiator Hose 1972 Cleveland Mach 1
Post by: Ingallman75 on May 22, 2022, 09:22:40 pm
Hey Guys,

Looks like I need to replace my upper Radiator hose on my 351c in my 72 Mustang.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to where the best place is to get a replacement?

Thanks

Dan

These places up your way should be able to sort you out

Any of the interstate Mustang parts places could send you one.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if hoses for a clevo in an XB or so Falcon would fit right up and likely to be cheaper and available at Supercheap, Autobarn etc. Worth looking at least. I have Mackay hoses for an XR Falcon in my '66.

So am having an absolute nightmare trying to sort this hose. Apparently because I have a aluminium radiator (non stock) the typical xb/xa falcon hoses don't fit. The factory hoses for a 72 Stang don't fit either 🤬

Has anyone had any experience with the flexible radiator hoses?

Try Mackay rubber. They have a tech enquiry email/form, and the bloke on it is really really helpful. I was trying to find a hose for an A/C 70 small block and he took pictures, got ones from the warehouse and compared, did a cross reference to the Ford part number.
All of it done fast, friendly and informative. And he appreciated learning about Mustangs too. I did warn him he'd get more calls.

Ok, this is what I do when I get stuck in a situation like yours. Get a piece if welding wire or if not available an old metal coat hanger ( they are a bit more stiff but if you have strong fingers will do the job). Cut a piece about 2 feet or straighten coat hanger as long as you can. Start from radiator inlet, carefully bend wire as required to clear everything until you reach thermostat housing. Make sure you leave plenty lenght and allow for bends take into account diameter of hose. When reached required lenght promply cut and take a trip to Supercheap or your friendly local spare parts store and show them the shape and lenght of hose you need make sure you tell them inside diameter of inlet and outley which should be 1.5 inches or 38mm. Happy days.
