Hi all
Looking for advice and know it will be somewhere but need a link / direction please
Looking at a complete engine trans swap
Have a wrecked series 2 au xr8 tickford Ute
Want to swap engine and trans ( btr ) and keep efi
This will be going into my project 54 mainline Ute so planning on using as much gear as practical
Any info and advice greatly appreciated
Cheers all

Hey dreama,
Nice timing, there is a similar question about this combination on pre 73 part of forum.
Going into a Mainline do you want to keep the carburettor look.
Cheers Phil.

Hi Phil
Thinking to keep engine as is with efi setup
Plan is to use as much of the au loom as possible
Ie lights indicators fuse and distribution box etc
Have the motor and driveline installation sorted but want to find out what I can and can’t delete from the loom
I read posts way back where guys had done similar but can’t find them
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Paul

Paul,
I fitted an NC Fairlane engine and trans in to mine,
I removed everything from the loom except what was needed to make it run.
Really you can leave as much or as little of the original loom as you want.
I needed a bypass module fitted to the ECU for the smartlock disable.
This will be much harder with the AU doner as they run smartshield and are much more sophisticated.
You may need to keep the body module and ignition switch from the AU.
This is what I removed from the loom.
Peter.

Hey Peter
Thanks for the reply
I have the all elecs including the key and transponder unit
Yes smartshield bypass does seem a bit more involved than smarlock and I haven’t been able to find much info as yet hoping someone who has done this will chime in.
My hope is I can strip the loom of features I no longer need but run the car through the remainder
Cheers
Paul
PS please jump in anyone who can help

I did an EL conversion on my 68 coupe Frankenstang, but i used everything - motor, box, diff, wiring Loom, dash, computers, steering wheel, cruise, EFI, Fuel Tank top, the lot.
Only problem i had was the smartlock kept telling me the back doors were open :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Did you end up hiding a pair of rear door locks under the seats to fix it :bolt:

Worse, i put it in the too hard basket, to look at another day.
15 years later i still havent got around to it.
Next year, after the move to Bargara, i will spend some time on it, including a heart transplant.

I was a bit slack there and didnt strip anything off the loom, but i needed almost everything as i transferred the whole dash and all the computers.
