Title: VASS Reports - Anyone had one recently, whats needed?
Post by: bdennis on April 06, 2021, 07:41:06 am
Hey guys,
I have done a search on VASS reports here and most of the threads are fairly old.
Would like to understand peoples most recent experiences and who you have used.

I have a 7/72 Mach 1 sports roof Mustang and need to get a VASS.
From what I understand, at a minimum, head lights need to change, robber brake hoses need to be replaced and probably seatbelts.

I'm keen to keep the car as original as I can and the seatbelts that are in my car seem to be unique to the 71-73 sports roof car as the shoulder belt can be disconnected from the lap sash in the front seats. I will share some pics of the belts to check and see if they are the originals. They are faded so I suspect they are. They also appear to have a buckle that is different to anything I have found on the net from a replacement point of view. All seats the belts are retractable.
The back seat has lap sash as the car as a fold down rear seat so nowhere to anchor a shoulder strap.

Any advice re the VASS and what is needed and who I should go to that know's mustangs would be appreciated.

Regards
Brendan.

Hi Brendan,

The seatbelts will most likely need replacement with something that has a Aust. Standards (AS) tag. You should be able to get your current belts remade with new belt materail that fits the criteria. Try somewhere like Seatbelt King in Braeside (or Google "seatbelt replacement Melbourne" to see other options).

But check with the engineer who will be issuing the VASS that this is acceptable first.

Cheers
Shane

FWIW, I've got 3-point fixed seatbelts in the rear of my '67 FB, which has a fold-down seat. The shoulder anchor points were installed in the corners where the C pillars and the rear window support structure meet.
The belts have enough slack to easily drop off to each side out of the way should I need to fold the seat back down.

Thanks for the tip.
I want to avoid drilling holes at this point.
The car also has the optional fold down rear seat. So keeping the lap sash in the back is the preference. The chances of someone sitting in the back are fairly slim, but I get that the seat belts need to be right. I need to find a VASS person that is happy with the standard anchor points and design.
