Title: 67 rim sizes
Post by: Megzee67 on October 26, 2020, 01:15:52 pm
Hi Gents,
I am keen to run 15x8 Superlite rims front and rear on my 67 Coupe.......New Rims I purchased have 4 1/2 inch backspace.
Car has Disc brakes front and rear, Rear has 5 leaf reverse eye springs, Front has lowered HD coils and Shelby Drop.
Is anyone running 15 x 8's all round?
What drama's did you come across- rolled guard lips etc?
What is the optimum tyre size?
Any feedback, advice or photo's would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers fella's

Hey Michael,
On my 68 I've got 18 x 9.5 x 35/265 on the rear and 18 x 8 × 40/235 on the front, both 4.5" backspace and both lips are folded in. Koni lowered springs and shocks on the front and four link coil-overs on the rear which allows better axle Centering! Originally had these wheels fitted with the leaf springs and fitted with clearance but rubbed harder!
They look great but do rub on rough roads!
Do you want the look or the ride!!!
Probably not available but ideal would be 7.5" and 9" with 4.25" or 4.375 backspace (IMO).
Cheers Phil

G'day Phil,
Thanks so much for the info and your car looks great mate....
I have always had a soft spot for the Superlite 15's for that Trans-Am era look and I lucked upon a new set of 5. I guess I am going for the look/ride combo as I have spent big on top of the range KONI shocks all round...A bit more research today indicates I can run my 15x8's with 225/60's.
By the way Phil, did you fold the lips with the with one of those special jigs that  bolts too and rotates with the wheel hub?
My car is now fully painted, so I might have missed the bus....
Regards
Mike

Hey Michael,
When my car was sprayed they folded the wheel aches.
I think the minilites look great also and the 8" with 225 will be best! 8" on the back will be no worries!
Hope you get your car on the road soon! Very rich colour!
I've got a bit of camber also to clear the wheel aches.
I'll be doing the Shelby drop soon, my cars been off the road a bit to long doing a few jobs and my wife wants it back on the road, she can't see I'm having fun improving it, just getting it spot on!
I had a heart attack in February and then four months off after a dirt bike accident!
Cheers Phil.

No worries Phil,
I got transferred overseas so my project slowed down for a while but back on track now...
Once I have it sorted I will drop you a piccy mate...The Colour is 67 E-Type Jaguar Regency Red and comes up with the deep burgundy look in the sunlight...
Yep, My wife just wants me to get it finished and cannot understand how we menfolk love to tinker....
I bet the heart attack and dirt bike accident knocked you around a bit...
Stay healthy Phil and thanks for your input..
