Title: Car Security for Peanuts.
Post by: Top.cat7 on June 17, 2012, 09:41:59 pm
"My car will never get stolen." We all say that, even those who owned the cars on the 'Stolen' list.

Here's how I protect myself.

A vehicle tracker with engine shutdown capability, costs $100 on eBay.

Cheers

I bought one a while back but have yet to fit it. Does this one require a sim card and if so which one did you go for.

I have read elsewhere about the pro's using jammers to override the GPS tracker. The jammers are highly illegal here in Australia. The only way around it is fulltime tracking by a dedicated company using military software that cannot be jammed. I have witnessed a car being reposesed in less than ten minutes onto a tilt tray with the alarm going off.

You can get them off ebay they fit into a cig lighter socket.

These jammers look a little mickey mouse but probably have enough juice to jam an equivalent GPS tracker.

I've got a tracker from Axle Technologies, works a treat.  $200 for unit (not dodgy ones like off eBay), then cheap monthly fee gives you access to their service/website, and they take care of the carrier side of things.  Plus good to know there's support.

I mentioned in my security thread a while back, they're happy to do group discounts for MOCA members.

I dunno, I think that looks a little bit fake.

What car thief smashes a front door window?
