I have requested more information on the incident and should be able to post more information in the morning.
I just hope it turns up for the owner.

Apparently our webmaster received the information from the Police in the hope that we would give it some publicity.
The car was stolen somewhere in NSW.
At this point that is all we know.

It would be handy if we could find out what sort of anti theft measures stolen cars have, so we can all learn what works and doesn't, and what the thieves are able to get around.

It seems that most theft devices are useless against the professional thieves.
One old habit that I used years ago was when I parked the car I put the front wheels on full lock then used a steering lock to make it difficult to tow from the rear.
But that said it still doesn't stop these new flat top towing trucks from dragging it onto their tray.
I would think that a GPS location system would be a minimum requirement for peace of mind.
Maybe other members might have some tips on this problem.

The car was stolen outside of a hot rod show at leumeah on the 26.9.10 at about lunchtime

Every car can be stolen! We just have to try & slow them down as much as possible. Only thing that works is not to let it out of your sight & make sure insurance is high enough to buy you another of the same quality.

The Vins' are on battery aprons and if those are replaced, what other numbers will you trace? Engine numbers were not recorded in USA to my knowledge. The thieves are no doubt replacing the battery aprons with the aprons from a project and away they go. Bring on the good old fashioned Microdot technology. it is sad to say but prob a parts car or has been re birthed
I dont believe that it will turn up
as I said guys I work in this field anything can be stolen even if it is on a flat bed
I will be looking at a GPS tracker for my car

I can recall reading that in the UK there was a GPS/engine immobilizer that could be fitted to any vehicle for about $A700.00 (10 years ago). I recall thinking that if you were 'filling up' and 'Joyriders' came along, you could make a 'phone call to one central point and give them an 'authenticating' code and they would immobilize the engine, which caused a 'splutter' and a thirty second 'delay' so that the driver could pull over, and then the engine would 'die'. Also, the location would be available via the inbuilt GPS tracker for the Police to round them up, if they had hidden the vehicle in a shed or container.
I cannot believe that it is not mandatory for all new vehicles to be fitted with them.
I don't know if they are available in Australia or if there is a central 24/7 'command', with the appropriate Satellite, to contact if you did purchase one.
Perhaps someone else knows.
