69 Mach1 finally started
« on: June 04, 2014, 10:23:54 am »
Hi everyone, I've had my Mustang for about 4 years, now that the house extensions and reno are finished i can now start on the build, I've been collecting parts since we bought her, plans are to keep the body fairly stock apart from widening the wheel houses to accomodate the wider rims i have, I'll breifly outline what i want to do,things may change as we progress
Engine: 9.2 dart block,AFD 4vs alloy heads, parker funnelweb manifold, 750 holley, roller cam, roller rockers and stud girdles
Trans: 4sp auto  modified to suit
Rear: 9 inch , shortened, disc brakes, eaton locker,3:50 gearing
wheels: 15x8 and 15 x10 magnums
interior: recaro front seats, seats retrimmed in leather retaining Mach theme
color:original is Black Jade, my wife isn't keen on the color and would prefer silver with the black outs, ( peoples thoughts?)
currently its been stripped and sitting on a frame, the l/h rail and torque box have been replaced ,am waiting on the r/h one to arrive, will post pics as soon as i can down size them

Sounds great.  You'll have to keep the pics coming throughout the build..

Your story is similar to mine, paulb. I too have a 69 Mach 1 sitting on a dolly after about 3 years of ownership. Funny too that my wife is also not keen on the original colour of mine. And it too has taken a distant back seat to other jobs around the house. All I've been doing is collecting parts as well.

Sign up to photobucket and upload your photos to there. All you have to do then is cut and paste the link. No need to worry about resizing your photos. Be great to see some pics though!

Sounds great Paul.

But you shouldn't need to widen the wheel houses for 15x10s - I have 15x10 Welds on my 70 and they fit under nice and snug.

Cheers,
Frank.

What colour is yours Ash?  Will load photos and supply link hopefully tonight
Am going to take the wheelhouse to the rail just for that bit of extra cleatence seeing as I'm going to replace them anyway , what size tyres are you running on your 10's Frank?

Mine is Acapulco blue. I love the colour. But I like a happy wife more so.  :bolt:

I've got 15 x 8's on the 4 corners of mine. 295's on the rear with the lip rolled. It's a tight fit but they fit.

I think you have bought some parts from me,  on another note I have 17 X 9.5 with 275 wide tyres and could fit 295 maybe even 305 but arches have been rolled. Tyres do not rub even when I am towing the Caravan and throwing it around corners

Yep have been to your place a couple of times, your car looks great finished , I should be able to fit 295 tyres once the guards are widened and with the correct width diff , they get. 305 wide in there over seas

Belated welcome to you Paul! Always good to have another 69r around. Look forward to the pics. I had a Black Jade Mach 1 and can understand the dislike of that colour!

Ash - can't believe your wife doesn't like the Acapulco blue. What colour does she want?

It's not so much the colour, Dave. There's a long story behind it and if changing the colour is what is required, then so be it.
She thought I was going to buy the black S-code that yellow66 actually brought. I hesitated at the time which was my mistake as it turned out to be a great car. So black with red Mach stripes it will be.

Macka, I think your idea of "little" project and mine would be miles apart! Very daunting, admire those with the talent to do restorations of this scale.

I think both Black Jade and Acapulco Blue, are two of the nicest colours, I get the keeping the wives happy, but there are times when you need to put your foot down

I like original colours on a car, nothing worse than getting a car and finding out it's not the original colour, especially if it's a car of value.

If changing the colour keeps the wife happy, then her focus will be on how nice the colour looks and not what everything really costs and how much has been spent...  :bolt:

But Ash, wives can come and go, our cars don't argue, there always up for it whenever we want, with love and affection, they always shine for us, and they don't waste money on unnecessary items such as shoes.

Stick to the original colour, as the car will never complain about how much you spent on her.

Unfortunately I don't stick to my own advice, I give in quickly and relate to what your saying

Ah true, wives do come and go. But... when my first wife went, so did my XB 2 door.

For the purist, changing the colour on mine wont be the most upsetting thing about the car. Unlike my wife, I don't have to live with an upset stranger at a car show because they don't like what I did with my car. My kids can deal with that lot if they want to sell it when the car is one day theirs.

Can you guess how many concours trophies I plan to win?   :lmao:

Let's face it, if we all stuck to the original colours for our cars, there'd be a lot of Mustangs out there with boring colours. Have a close look at the colour charts for the early cars! Most of the '68 colours look like pus, bar 1 or 2. JMHO. Mine is actually a Dodge colour. If it's a keeper, and not for concourse,  do as you will.
Cheers, Ron B

I have to say I am stoked with my original colour Mustang. I did look at a nice Acapulco Blue one in the ACT, but was put off by the fact that it was originally a Meadowlark Yellow colour. I love the rarity of Winter Blue.

I don't enter mine in concours but like the originality of it.

I do agree Ash, I hate those who come up and criticise your car. - when they start to pay to rectify its " faults" then I'll be interested in their opinion!
