Have you thought about a bonnet bulge or a 67 Shelby style bonnet scoop to help take care of height issues?

I have thought about and only got as far as a Google image search etc. I am unsure on the legalities but remember reading something about the scoop not being able to obstruct vision (at any seating position) of the road 11m ahead of the car. Does anyone know what the actual rules are?

In terms of a type of scoop/buldge, I hear the best way is to get a steel piece and have it welded in. Any thoughts? I did see this style, but the buldge would need to be more forward etc.

Does any know of anyone in Australia using the Roadster Shop's Fast Track IFS front suspension? If so were they able to get it engineered?

Looks like a cool project.  If I were you I would get onto an engineer to discuss your ideas and get an idea as to what modifications will be easily approved.  Have you found a workshop to put it together for you?

I haven't decided on a workshop yet. Does anyone have a contact, private or commercially based that you would recommend?

You are right about the engineer, I have made initial contact but will go back with more solid plans in the coming weeks.

A couple of pics of my BF Turbo 1966 Coupe project that I started mid last year.

Wrecked a low milage BF XR6 Turbo ute and kept the entire drive train and electrics.

Found a nice Six Cylinder T code coupe and started measuring.

You will find out as you go along crikeyrob why this is not a common conversion and info is lacking.

Spent last year converting the car to RHD, and moving the firewall back as far as possible.

First problem, the Barra motor's head overhangs the block both front and rear by a couple of inches so length in the engine bay is lacking.

Second problem, sump to steering clearance. Have a 65 with an RC Motorsports Mustang ll front end similar to Heidt's, and on offering various Barra sumps up to it soon showed that wasn't going to work.

Eventually used  an RSS rack and strut kit that a Forum member that hadn't used it, and was offering it cheap and it should work.

Also added the strut notch kit for turbo clearance.

Gearbox will be an worked AOD machined to fit Dellows C4 to Falcon six bell housing.
That way the tunnel doesn't have to be altered.

Diff is allready in, cut down 500hp AU XR8 LSD Disc braked with 3.75 gears.

Have just mocked up a Hydroboost for the front 330mm Brembo brakes and am at present working out how to hide all the plumbing.

Unfortunately health has slowed me down but will slowly chip away at it.

Best of Luck, you will need it.

Hi Ausfox,

Your build looks good! Thanks for your really informative post. Its good to know im not the only crazy one trying this type of conversion.

I am thinking along the same lines and will end up with the RRS gear (power rack, struts, notch kit, 3 link and brakes etc). I plan to change the oil sump from an fg to a ba to help with the engine clearance over the steering etc.

I haven't looked at the tunnel but I hope it all fits. Based on your post I'm not as confident as I used to be.

I would like to give you a call to discuss further. I'll send your a pm first.

Rob

Hi Guys,

It has been a couple of weeks since the latest update so I thought I would share the progress.

I have now decided on all fabricators and contacts required for the project;
* LHD to RHD booked in (Firewall to be moved back at the same time)
* Helix IFS "Corner Killer" organized (Removal of shock towers also)
* Engine Mounts, Tunnel Modification and mini tubed rear end organized
* Chassis stiffening organized (Rail connectors and torque boxes still need to be purchased. Best location to purchase from?)
* Wiring loom modification organized
* Diff center now received (9" Tru Trac with 3.2:1 ratio).
* BF XR6 Seats have been purchased and these will be re-trimmed along with the rear seats. (Thanks TimR67 for the idea)

I have started a shared image folder on Sky Drive and the link is below where images of the new diff centre can be found. That's all for now  :thumb:

Thanks for the heads up. The guy that is installing the front end has already done his before so I'm guessing he has ran into all of these issues. I will share the link with him just in case.

I'm about to do this install but with an XF, minus the turbo and with a T5.

Do you know how yours is getting wired up? Are you using the Ford PCM and flashing out the PATS or are you using an aftermarket ECU, or Ford PCM, BEM and key reader? I'm still trying to figure out how to wire mine but I have less to deal with with the manual gearbox and no ABS.

Hi Ash,

I am using a new digitally controlled  ignition system fro (arrived earlier this week). It will be keyless entry and push button start.

The wiring loom will be modified to run as a standalone system. This will be completed by Killer Kustom Kables in QLD and will leave me with only 5 or so wires I need to link to the new ignition system mentioned above. I will have to flash the ECU and he knows a contact in Vic that can help me out.

Sounds like another great project!!

Hey Rob,

I'd like to do much the same with the stand alone PCM as like you said, there really is only a small handful of wires that are required.

I spoke to the engineer last week and he is happy to sign it off as long as I use the factory air intake, PCM and factory cats and mufflers. This means no aftermarket ECU's.

My local Ford guys are keen to help so they can learn what needs to be done too. So I have access to their WDS but so far it looks like we can't remove the PATS (Smartshield) with it. If I can't do this easily, I'll just keep the BEM and key reader in the system.

I will have to flash the ECU

Is that the factory ECU you are talking about or the Digital Guard Dawg?

Hey Ash,

Sounds like you have it all on track. I will have all factory bits on the engine and will fit them in easy now that the shock towers are gone.

I will still use the factory ECU with modified loom. The flashing will be required on the factory ECU. I have been told I should get this done at Bullet Performance in Victoria.

Hope this helps.

Ha, that's funny, Rob. I actually spoke to Bullet Performance today. They quoted me $395 to flash the PCM.

I spoke to a couple of others who I thought might be helpful and the answers I got were they don't do it or didn't know you could.

Appreciate your feedback though. I'm mainly doing this as I way of learning the components a bit further and to also sell the parts I have. I had it all there so thought I'd have a go myself.

I'm keen to see your progress. You're moving along quite well.

Cheers

Funny that! haha

I just received the nu-relic power windows today and the new wheels should be here this weekend.

I hope to have it rolling on its new front suspension in a couple of weeks. Next will be the install of the new shortened 9"diff followed by engine and gearbox mounts.
I will only speed up from here!

I will keep the updates coming.

Rob, this may or may not be useful to you. I found it recently and the guy has done a decent write up with a fair bit of wiring detail in an spreadsheet. Quite a bit of it will be irrelevant to you but something might be helpful. Worth a read anyway.
