Hi,
My name's Russell , I live in Rockingham, Western Australia.
I'm currently rebuilding my 69 mach 1. I hope to run a 10second 1/4 mile in her some day. Here is a list of some of the goodies I have fitted or purchased over the last 7 years.
Body- is currently being panelled and painted and is going to be Porshe Red, black Mach 1 markings with bugcatcher and rear spoiler.
Carbon fibre: front guards, spoiler, rear 1/4 panel ext, mirrors and bootlid.
Fibreglass: panel behind front bumper, front apron and hood.
High temp urethane headlight buckets.
Motor- 460ci windsor stroker small block(World man-o-war short motor) with Yates SVO C3 heads(720hp+). FAST fuel injection, Edelbrock manifold, Jesel valve train, Comp cam, Concept One serpentine pulley system, Meziere electric H20 pump, TCI Rattler balancer, Canton aluminium sump, MSD 7AL digital ignition, FAST dual sinc dizzy, Danny bee external timing belt...
Trans- TKO-600 blueprinted, strengthened and girdled with MGW short-throw shifter, Quicktime steel bellhousing, Mcleods street twin clutch and aluminium flywheel, PST 3.5in carbon fibre tailshaft.
Differential- Competition Engineering chromoly sheet metal 9inch housing, Strange nodular-iron centre, Moser 31spline billet axles, Truetrac center with 4:11 gears.
Suspension- RRS power steering rack and pinion, RRS coilover on the front with 345mm discs(18x9 wheels) and custom threelink coilover system on the rear with 315mm discs(18x11wheels). RRS underdash master cylinder and hydraulic clutch unit.
Interior- JME dash with Autometer guages, Scat elite seats and the rest is black Mach 1 interior. Powered windows and locks.Cool air products aircon/heating system. Fuel safe fuel cell with Fast 1000hp fuel pump kit bla bla bla...

Here's a few pics of the engine bay and the donk. Spun the motor up at Kostecki's the other day. She made 701hp/595tq@6800rpm, 508tq@4000rpm, 409tq@2900rpm,. We shut her down for a bearing check and all was good. The run was with a rich mix 1050 carb. Now we have to sort out the injection. I had her built to spin to 8000rpm.

This car has become an 'obsession'! I have wanted a 69 since I was 10years old.
Some days are frustratingly slow and make me wonder why! But after a week away at work and I come home and open up the shed, Its worth everything!!! Every time a part arrives in the mail its like Xmas!

My brother bought the 460w from world too, is going to run AFR heads and a Flying Toilet, in his full chassis Capri.
Did you buy the short assembled? After the pull down, was it all ok? We are considering pulling this down before we fit it.

Hey nice work 6t9. That's a big undertaking mate but it looks like it's coming together ok.
I like your build list as it closely resembles mine aside from the HP figures that is. I'm building a streetable regular driver and here's a prtial list of what I have so far:
TKO600 with a 2" right offset (for RHD),
Full kevlar/kevlar clutch,
Quicktime SFI steel bellhousing,
CNC hydraulic clutch set-up,
Currie Track 9 housing with forged 31 spline axles. Torino bearing ends, nodular housing and Tru-Trac with 3.89 gears (shortened for RRS rear disc set-up),
Total Control Products G-Link (G-Bar) triangulated 4 link with dual adjustable coil overs and sway bar,
Hydratech Hydroboost braking system,
Global West lower front arms, adjustable strut rods and sway bar,
RRS power rack and pinion
Flaming River stainless tilt steering column,
Lecarra Mark IV leather wheel and billet adaptor,
Vintage Air A/C (which is being modified for right hook)
Lokar handbrake and billet pedals.
Still got to get the RRS front coil overs and phase three brakes front and back.
On top of that a sh1tload of Dynacorn sheetmetal and more small parts than I care to count.
Right now just sorting out the power and was thinking crate but just read your post re KEC's comment on crates. Hmmmmmm.

A 67 fastback although it doesn't resemble much of one at the moment.
To be honest, I have none of it fitted up yet, it's all in a big pile down at my warehouse. I just have one of those 1 piece cast CNC combo master cylinders see here (http://cncbrakes.com/mc.asp?grp=mc&subgrp=round&series=701&subseries=). I'm confident it'll clear the hydroboost once it's fitted up to the new firewall. This is the Hydroboost

Chassis has been boxed for extra strength and the new cross/shock mount brace is welded in. Bump stops have been moved from outside the rail to the inside so the new mini- tubbs can go flush with the rail. (nice and wide);}

With 315's on a '69 with a standard width diff, you will need to massage the front inside part of the rear guard. you will need to roll the inside edge of the guards. I don't think you can have an 11" rim(10's yes) with a 6" back space with leaf springs(I dont have leaf springs) with standard diff width.

Other '69 owners have gone these options: 315's on a 17x10.5 with 6.85bs(1.10" offset wheel) 18x10 295's with 6.375 and 1/8 spacer.

oh my effing god. . i was reading that thread - scrolling down and saying to myself "oh no the pages is running out" haha - im enjoying reading about it so much !!! smitten for that car mate, you're tackling a monster there - what a weapon. I cant wait to have a bit of coin to make something with some awesome HP figures... only problem for me is i struggle putting jam on toast let alone taking something apart and building it from scratch. :( but got some good mechanic mates that I ski race with and they said they'll build an engine if i lgive them the money haha ;)
for now my quick fix for speed is my bike - if you were over this side of aust id love to give ya a run down the quartermile when done, there is hardly any road going cars worthy of it.

ha! its funny you mentioned bikes. I'm thinking seriously about getting another bike. Being an andrenalin junky myself, I agree, there is just nothing like a bike for that fix. I havent ridden in over ten years and I think it's time I did. Sooo many bikes to chose from too! My biggest fear is not knowing my limits on them. Thats why I got off them many years ago. Hopefully I'm a bit wiser now....

Mate, This is awesome stuff and you've started with the best car. I have a 69 FB also but it will never be a beast to this calibre. I'm impressed. If you need any one off billet stuff made, give me a call, pbarlass@aapt.net.au . I have my own toolmaking workshop in Perth. Look forward to seeing the finished product. Do you have a colour in mind??

Cheers phil! The build is into the 5th year now but its getting there slowly. I might take ya up on that billet stuff. gotta couple of under bonnet ideas. I love my billet!!! Can you do pulleys? The pulley on the water pump, which is just a smooth idler(for tension) is too far forward for correct belt line up. It doesnt work the pump coz its electric. Its just there to help keep the pulley configuration that I have and can be made a different diameter to go deeper to the back over the pump about half an inch more.
I'm going to paint her with a clean bright red. ie: porsche or mazda red with 'Mach 1' blackouts,spoiler,rear wing and stripes. going to do black around the rear taillights like the boss '69s had.:(

Wow you are doing pretty much what i bought my 69 for... started looking into doing the engine conversion and is such an effort i started wondering why i was bothering, but seeing this has inspired me again! Love the wheels too, whered you get them?

I have 265 x 7 x 15s for the front and 295 x 8 x 15s for the back. there mounted on rims but i have yet to fit them to the car

I know these photos look like the last, but there has been a lot of welding done. She now sits safely on the ground and is currently having the 'Global West' sub-frames welded in and the Mach 1 rear wing fitted. With all the weight back in her she should drop about an inch, so the killer stance is almost complete(for the rear at least). 2 more payments on the motor and I should have her home at the end of febuary. Almost 2 years to pay for the motor!;x;x Its basically slowed the whole project to a trickle but as soon as the motor is payed for then things should get moving a lot quicker.
My other concern is with all of my mining friends losing there jobs around me I can't help but feel nervous and am starting to tighten the budget for a while.;1

Engine conversion?! what you running dude? I got the wheels from 'Billet Specialties' pricey!!!!!! Just gunna run 8s with 245s on the front.

and its so great to see the progress.
I've just stripped my stang and shes ready for paint next weekend - however, this being my first rebuild, i am beginning to realise there is SO much more to it then just taking it in for paint building a motor and putting it all back together...
Now that shes apart, I want to take my time and do it properly (as we can all clearly see your doing!) and I really admire all the patience you have had for this rebuild... I only hope I can hold out as long as possible!! :(

As you can see there is still work on the brackets and pulleys to be correctly fitted. I just losely fitted the kit to see how it looked! The kit is designed to fit a windsor so when the Yates SVO(Cleveland) heads were fitted things didn't line up correctly. Going to have the UGLY water pump pulley changed and set back futher to line up with the belt. I need to have the crank pulley drilled to suit a 3-hole balancer and not a 4-hole.(hence the poor fitment shown)

OH shit. thats unlucky mate, , , but, put it this way, that engine is trick, car looks mean and has all the goods and will be shit hot when its done... after all the dicking around and tweaking !

I dropped the waterpump off today to a fellow forum buddy to get a new deeper billet pulley fitted and got to cast my eye over his '69 stang while I was there!:(
The radiator has been set forward as far possible as can be and the tranny tunnel is being worked on currently. The custom hotrod 24fuse wiring harness arrived today so I now have all the circuits to begin wiring. The motor is sitting in the car now but will come out again for engine bay touchups!
Fuel lines and fittings arrived so fuel is ready to be plumbed. All engine fittings/wiring through the firewall can be done next week! ;+

Rear wing is fitted and set further back than factory.
Radiator re-fitted.
An Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump lurks underneath the steel shroud near the tank, protected from rubber spray and the elements. Tranny tunnel for TKO-600 is complete. Ignition sits where the battery used to be. Battery will be trunk mounted.:(

last week i was involved in a safety incident at my new casual job. I was almost crushed by a half tonne steel door that was not isolated and there were no safety procedures to do so. I had concerns about the matter as they were not even going to report the matter so i contacted my employment agency's OH&S and the companies OH&S officers for a discussion on how we could make this safer... a couple of days later I was 'NO LONGER REQUIRED' to be working with the company..Sacked for raising safety!!
So without too much:- I am letting those of you who are wondering how the project is going. Its not. Once again it has come to a grinding halt due to employment issues.

Jeez, 6T9, that's harsh! Someone could have been killed or seriously hurt, there. Isn't there any appeal process to follow? If that's how they treat OH&S, they shouldn't be in business.

yeah id go for un-fair dismissal . considerable evidence to support your claim. . thats shocking mate. im studying Human resources, occupational health and safety and its a shame to see that there was an issue like that in the first place and you were shamed for trying to keep your peers safe !

My wife works for Workcover here in Vic. She suggests you talk to Worksafe (or its equivalent there in WA). It wont get you your job back , but may save someone from getting killed in the future. Plus your ex-employee might cop a fine !

An(old) XY GT Falcon master clutch cylinder has now been recessed so that it doesn't hit on the valve cover.

Well all I can say is I would be happy to see this year off with a bullet up its a$$. Since march I have been flim flamming around with low wage jobs just surviving and the project had become all but a distant memory. With the new high paying job finally being offered to me this friday the project will recommence and a smile will start to form on my face again. I have no bills in the way so its ' a no expense spared situation' on the car once again.! yeeeehaaaarrrrr!;2:p:a:+;+:=

Got a job with Dyno Nobel in Kalgoorlie.They'll have me making Ammonium Nitrate(explosives). I still own a house up there so its not a problem to move back up there. Im actually on the road today so I'll be off the air for a while.

If your playing with explosives I guess that you already have airport clearance or at least parachute training. One wrong move could make for a rough landing.

Finally after a long wait....Wednesday she's off to Maitland fabrication for 'at this stage' 4point cage but we'll be discussing it a little more tomorrow. Trying to comply with both ADRs and ANDRA is proving to be most confusing. The car is to run between the 11 to 10 sec street class so removable sidebars and rear support bar could be an option. ANDRA have changed the rules AGAIN! Whilst at the Fabricators she'll also be fitted with a custom cross member for a final effort to stop her twisting too much. Pics soon... ;2

FIFO 2weeks on 2 weeks off! Its a big call but 'if' the cars finished by the end of the year I wanted to truck her up for the Kal show march next year.(sentimental reasons). theres a few nice stangs up there, yours included!;{

Yes. And is still registered.:( That was the biggest of the challenges... to build a 10sec car and have it street legal. Would have been easier to build it just for the drag track...:-

That last part sounds familiar. When I bought mine from a guy in Kwinana bout 7+years ago she had been bogged and flogged,(to me) and most of the RHD conversion needed to be redone too!:- All I can say is a little bit a day is better than nothing at all! At least you own one mate. :(Luckier than most!

I decided to move the fuel pump indoors to allow for the 3inch exhaust to to fit thru the watts suspension. Lift pump coming!

A bit of fuel plumbing done and the water pump pulley problem is all but finished. Brackets are being altered due to the Yates heads on a windsor block! Pics coming soon! The radiator isn't touching the water pump anymore either.

The diff housing was larger than normal so I had to move the suspension V-frame back which created a mis-alignment of the watts linkages to the outside brackets. Fixed with these beefier watts linkages that can now work on an angle.

The sad part about my billet JMC brake master is that after squaring the motor and setting the engine mounts the dang thing came too close to the valve cover so I went with an aftermarket under dash brake booster/clutch master set up.:hammer: I added the neat billet triple resevior to the fire wall. After moving the shrouded fuel pump into my boot I mounted this 150gph lift pump in its place. Hmm.. best shield it from the future hot rubber!:bolt:

I felt that with the strengthening I did add a bit of weight so I decided to trim it elsewhere. I will weigh the car to see the end weight. The car is north of the river at the moment.:cheers:

Sorry Tim, to answer your question more. I will be making the major weight gains with body panels. I have ordered carbon fibre front guards, front spoiler, boot lid and rear quarter panel extensions. And in fibre glass: a hood, bumper panel and apron. The company making the fibreglass parts wanted $1200 freight.:shocked: I made a phone call to a US cars & parts importer in Perth here and they could do freight for $260.:rub:

it will be interesting to hear how everything fits. i'm sure it would be more difficult tweaking that than steel panels.

Also where did you get the reservoirs from for the brakes and clutch. Good luck with the rest of the build man and will be watching very closely...

Cheers! ...Yes it is the RRS unit. You shouldn't have any dramas with it. I had pedal length issues but my firewall was altered for a previous xy setup. Also the footbrake had to be moved over to the kick panel more as well but that was another custom fitment.

The 69 dash side edges have different depths on each side. When you change them over to RHD you have the problem of the trim being too shallow on one side and protruding on the other. This has to be cut on the protruding side and extended via plating on the shallow side. Whether it be plastic or steel rivited then bogged or fibreglassed and then painted black again. The other issue is the steering colomn trim does not line up with the RHD steering colomn. The trim is offset and needs to be either cut off and moved across or in my case removed. A custom piece will go on mine.
A conversion specialist may have better ideas.

I've stopped putting finish dates on the project. Finished when shes finished. Although I've owned and built an XW Falcon and an XB GS coupe, the '69 has by far got the full build dream. :thumb: ...it will be my last!!:hope:

I had concerns about the matter as they were not even going to report the matter so i contacted my employment agency's OH&S and the companies OH&S officers for a discussion on how we could make this safer... a couple of days later I was 'NO LONGER REQUIRED' to be working with the company..Sacked for raising safety!!
So without too much:- I am letting those of you who are wondering how the project is going. Its not. Once again it has come to a grinding halt due to employment issues.
Remember this? Well this company is on the local WA nine news for an accident that has a guy wrapped up in a conveyor!!!! 10 rescue personel to remove him. Only a matter of time in that place.

Cheers Bas! I'm currently awaiting my fibreglass front apron,bumper panel and hood to be shipped.1st week in september. I have ordered a carbon fibre bootlid and extensions but they wont be until the end of september.
Current works are(pics soon): racing harnesses being fitted, Aeromotive fuel cell with A1000 fuel pump and surge inhibitor inside being fitted to replace other fuel cell because I felt the current fuel system was too race car(messy). Not to mention that I couldn't get exhaust pipes past the tank and droning dusty drop pipes from the mufflers were not a prefered option. Water pump drama continues so a Meziere remote(with inbuilt thermostat) is being fitted, idler pulley will go in place of current water pump to keep belt configuration correct, water crossover is being changed to look neater and to work with the water pump, conversion of radiator hoses from slip on hose to bolt on AN stainless, heater hoses configured in too, bugcatcher is being bolted up(linkages), fabricated glovebox being removed and original woodgrain clock dash face is being fitted, fitting alloy windscreen washer bottle...
My social life has suffered immensely since starting this project, with both working to make the coin to pay for it and the strict budget (don't leave the house mode) I've ran by. Being the social person I once was its testing my willpower.:violin: But hopefully soon I'll start to reap the rewards of my passion and love for these cars.:rub: I watched your build come and go and grit my teeth with envy to see it come together so fast. Remote water pump sits @ bottom right, pumps via 2 lines across front then around behind pulleys where they part to run to water inlets into the block on either side of the timing belt. Water then exits via the heads on both sides to the central thermostat housing then across to the radiator. This all came about due to the fitting of a danny bee timing belt which pushed everything too far forward for the standard water pump option. I couldnt just run an electric water pump in place because I needed a pulley to run the serpentine belt on. I had an idler pulley fitted on an alloy plate put in it's place. And on top of all that the cleveland heads on a windsor block also created water crossover complications. The finished product is FINALLY coming together.

Cheers. Gotta do the bypass from the pump and heater hoses now. Some refinements could come later but happy for now. Hopefully should have the water plumbing done by the end of next week. Then on to exhaust I guess..:therethere:

The new fuel cell has the A1000 pump mounted inside with surge tank. swirl pot/surge tank removed and lift pump no longer require. it's cleaned up the trunk space. Taken away the race car look that i didn't desire. Its also allowed me to run rear exhaust pipes instead of dump pipes before the diff!! So YES the previous fuel cell, swirl pot, lift pump and main pump will be for sale soon.

Hello 6t9rustang with running the fuel cell, can you still run the orginal fuel door with a modified filler neck to the fuel cell. I have a 70 mach1 iam restoring and going to run injection on my motor, and like the setup you have with the fuel cell.

Hi mate, yes you can. That was my intention with the first cell. The cell I have fitted now maybe not. The Fuel Safe Fuel Cell company sell the kit for what they call 'remote filling'. When I bought the original cell it was supposed to have the reote plate on it but arrived with the 'fill in boot' plate. So I was just going to alter a remote fill kit to suit the boot fill plate. There site has a huge catalog and heaps of info...

RRS brake upgrade. DBA 2 piece 345 rotors with 6 piston calipers. Rears are 315 with mini-6 piston calipers. I felt the PBR items weren't up to the task.

G'day... and thanks... but no updates :tissue: the project ground to a screaming halt when I purchased a house on a 12acre block. After pouring a considerable amount of money and work into the new place to get it comfortable to live in, I'm finally in the process of putting up a 12x7m shed. I've since sat down with 'The Mrs' and we've now agreed that its time we got the project back into gear... :bolt: Late March 2014 I will begin the final phase of the project :evilone: exhaust, wiring, paint etc...
P.S. - I did purchase the Billet 69/70 trunk hinges from Ring Brothers but after extensively searching the web I have found they must have been dis-continued... :cry:

What happens after the exhaust is on?

A bit more plumbing, then wiring for start up. Motor will have to come out for a quick strip and inspect...possible bore rust and valve springs etc... Then fire up...then strip it all down for paint....

My bigblock in a 66 Fastback took me 13 years as it was a "with what ever spare time I had" project with family and 3 kids growing up around me. So i understand your situation.
I'd be interested in your 1/4 mile times once you get a run done, as it looks like you get more rubber in the rear than me.
But i also did want to keep the folding rear seat in there between my home made tubs, so this limited things.....
Anyway, you'll be wrapped once you get it on the street and registered. Mine is awesome to drive, yours will be too.
