Title: Strut Tower Brace, etc
Post by: JasonK on December 06, 2018, 12:57:37 pm
Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has shelled out for the $500 odd for a Strut Tower brace and if it makes a discernable difference?

I have the ragtop and it feels a little flexi to me - particularly over undulations when one front tyre hits it before the other front tyre.

I am hoping the brace might address part of that, but if someone knows for certain, I would appreciate the advice.

I would  check  if you  have a engine crossmember first. Bolt that and your  wheel alignment  will be alot better.

I picked up my 2017 GT convertible in August 2017.  I did my research and found that strut tower brace appeared to be standard fit for US GT convertibles.. The US Mustang 6 site also indicated it was a worthwhile addition.  Bought mine from Mustang Motorsports and had it shipped to my dealer who fitted it as part of delivery process.  I've done 41,000 km in 16 months and no squeeks or rattles.  No discernible body flex beyond what I might expect from not having a roof.

Looks the goods too when you open the bonnet!

I Bought 1 from the USA off Ebay ..... cost me less than $300 shipped.

Since this was a LHD brace, it took me 5mins extra to grind a small bit of metal off where it touched on 1 side on a RHD car.

Can't really tell on the hardtop if it made any difference, but looks good!  :burnout:

Thats a really good price. Lowest price the RHD ones are available for is something like $550. It does look good, and geez, your engine bay looks clean for 41,000k's!

Still to be had for that price (more or less) https://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-2019-Mustang-GT-5-0-Genuine-Ford-OEM-Engine-Strut-Tower-Brace-FR3Z-17A200-A/183353319538?hash=item2ab0b5a072:rk:5:pf:0 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-2019-Mustang-GT-5-0-Genuine-Ford-OEM-Engine-Strut-Tower-Brace-FR3Z-17A200-A/183353319538?hash=item2ab0b5a072:rk:5:pf:0)

USD to AUD is the killer at the moment.

EDIT: This is even better as no work is involved in modifying it for about the same price ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-PERFORMANCE-2015-2017-MUSTANG-GT-2-3L-RHD-STRUT-TOWER-BRACE-M-20201-MARHD/371760382620?epid=1993216817&hash=item568ea5429c:g:zJQAAOSw8gVX~T40:rk:18:pf:0 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-PERFORMANCE-2015-2017-MUSTANG-GT-2-3L-RHD-STRUT-TOWER-BRACE-M-20201-MARHD/371760382620?epid=1993216817&hash=item568ea5429c:g:zJQAAOSw8gVX~T40:rk:18:pf:0)

I installed the GT350R Performance Aluminum  Strut Tower Brace  brace on my hard top. Mine also came with the top C Brace. Aussie Mustangs already have the C brace fitted.
Took all of 5 minutes to install.
Surprising thing was that the recommended torque settings on the strut tower nuts is very light.
It has stiffened the front end somewhat although my car already has reasonably stiff suspension already.
Was it a massive or even a slight improvement in handling? Dunno, it looks good, that's for sure.
By the way, I have a spare C Brace for a RHD S550 if any one needs one.

that looks like a plain black one without the GT stainless plate
