Ha ha ha,
You must be a genius to think of that! :omg:
I reckon 1 in a million would think of that!
Well worth a try jiffy!
Cheers Phil.

Good idea. But the N is definitely up the right way if you look at the Scott Drake packages or https://www.vintage-mustang.com/attachments/69-trunk-letters-2-jpg.506570/

so - a favourite saying of mine is:

Experience, its that thing you get just after you needed it....

and after posting this particular issue on the CJ forum, I get told that it's a known problem with the repro trunk letters, that the pins are not in the right place - the 'N' is the worst of the lot.....

Hey jiffy,
I did an ebay search and there is another brand.
Eckler's!
Well worth a try or use a stick on "N" or fiddle with what you've got! Cut off the pins, drill holes in correct position and super glue new nylon pins in position.

Cheers Phil.

so - lots of work for little visible progress. I had all the drip-rail stainless polished up, and I found some NOS boomerangs a while back, so they all got put on and the new roof rail seals went in. So, after Barry helped me out with some qtr window upper hinges (I had no idea what they were or where they went...) I finally got to put the new chrome on, new seals, latches etc and put the windows in - got to say - it looks good - every bit of progress is very encouraging...

Rear bumper on - it's a repro so it fits really badly - are there any tips on improving it or just "time to get the original re-chromed"

I'm assuming nothing fits like OEM....?

I have no idea as to how much rechroming a bumper would be but that would be my preference

That bumper is way worse than my repro. Mine at least is close to the body.
I can't recall the name, but somewhere in country Victoria is a chromeplaters that can still do 'decent' chrome with all the nasty chemicals banned from urban places.
Might be a myth but I've seen it referred to in a few forums.

So if your OEM just needs rechrome, go that way.

Highly recommend Vinnies in Dandenong. I have had a fair bit of work done by them over the past 20 years and never disappoint.

They are not cheap but stand by their work. Google vinnies chrome.

Hey all,
Anyone in Sydney I had Pioneer Plating do my quarter windows frames and did a great job!
Just off the M5 near Moorebank.
It took me ages to find a chrome plater near me, on Google and Yellow pages a lot are old addresses and have closed down.
There is or was a great bloke in Windsor but I believe he was having trouble getting chemicals, I wish him the best!
Cheers Phil.

ok - so now that the windows are located correctly, we're on to the next piece. There was too much play in the rag joint at the bottom of the tilt steering column, and I couldn't get the damn bolt in, so it all had to come out. I chased the threads with a tap and installed the rag on the bottom of the shaft and it all went in and the bolts are all tight, so happy with that!!

So, next cab off the rank was the tilt steering actuator. This is a complete original '69 setup that I acquired a couple of years ago. I had a recommendation from West Coast Classic Cougars rebuild it all, so everything is good and ready to install. It was never optioned for my car, so I have no idea how it all works or goes together. where the holes should be etc so it's all trial and error - so my apologies for the bone questions that appear from time to time.

I figured out that the canister mounts under the battery tray (I haven't painted or installed that yet) - so I search on the 'net and found a couple of pics that show where it should go. On the apron below the tray but above the lower mounting holes, there are three dimples in the apron - the centre one becomes a hole for the valve to poke through, the outer ones are drilled for the canister studs to appear, so I used a hole-saw to mark the circle, drilled the ring and used the hole saw to break through - easy to do after a while, just a PITA whilst you're doing it...

So, the canister is now in the right place

I put the hoses on, they run up from under the battery tray (not in there yet) around the shock tower and under the export brace to the rear of the PCV and (soon, when I figure out where it's supposed to go) through the firewall to the actuator/relay and vacuum motor.

Next thing was figuring out the actuator and vacuum motor.

I had a few questions about this thing - what were all the parts for, and how did it mount, and what are these wires for?

So, it turns out that these are for a second "safety switch" - these get wired in series with the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) on an Auto car - so you cannot start the car whilst the column is tilted. Apparently not used for a 4-speed car as the idea is to use the little jumper wire (I know - the switch is not connected right??).

I spent a couple of days trying to figure out how this thing would mount onto the steering column, and it didn't matter how I twisted and turned it, there was no way it would mount anywhere sensible.

Then - I had a light-bulb moment - the lower dash wasn't it, and I saw a pic on the interweb that hinted at it not being mounted on the column, so I figured out that it actually mounts on the underside of the dash itself!! So, nearly ready to put the lower dash in and once that's in, then the final piece of the puzzle will be complete, I'll just need to cut a hole for the additional door switch and it's done!!

ok, got the lower dash in but no cluster, starting to work through the electrical issues (and there are a few):
Wipers work but don't park (see my fix for that in the tech section)
Interior sail lights done work - (fixed)
Tilt steering - (not yet)
Brake lights - (nope)
Indicators - (fixed these on the 14th)

Got my new wheels out, put some new tires on them, a little excited now...

Put them on

but the fronts (235/60/R15) rub gently on the UCA's - so not sure what to do about that (anyone want to swap for a pair of 225/60/R15 BFG's?)

Hey jiffy,
You probably already know this but you may have to use wheel spacers if you can’t swap them for narrower tyres, even then hard on corners they may rub, it’ll only give you an extra 5mm and on high profile tyres that’s nothing.
Do you have much room to the wheel arch. Negative chamber wedges may also kick the spindle out a bit also.
Are they on 8” rims. Ideally 4.5” backspace clear easily, I’ve got a good finger distance from my UCA to the rim on 18” x 8” wheels.
Wheels look great though.
Cheers Phil.

Hmmm, these are 7 inch rims and supposedly the correct backspace for a Mustang…
Dunno why they’re so close to the UCA.
The springs are the wrong ones, too thin (15.7mm) for a big-block car and too long (car sits up and begs, but I was expecting to swap them out so not worried about them) so I cannot tell if the tires will run yet as they’re a mile from the wheel arch. I’m just annoyed with the tire/UCA clearance.

Hey Jiffy,
With the ride height have you rolled the car back and forward to remove the binding of the suspension being in the air and toe in, you should get about 2" drop.
I've got 235 on 8" rims, you could go back to 215 on 7" rims, but would look skinny, 225 are maximum on 7" rims as per google.
I know you've the wheels already but 8" with 4.5" backspace rims no worry on a 69. Can you return them! But still use the same tyres.
Cheers Phil.

How did you get on with your wheels, tyres and springs.
Hope you were able to sort them out.

Going to try 225/60/R15's as soon as I can find time/funds to swap them over...

Trying to stretch the door rubbers to fit nicely at the top/rear of the doors.

Going to finish off wiring for the console gauges then the dash cluster goes in. Test all that, paint the 2 interior panels and install the interior.

Then START!! Whoo hoo....
