Title: Anyone bringing in a container to Perth from the US?
Post by: booah on December 22, 2019, 12:32:27 pm
I have a heavy pallet that should be ready at the end of Jan to ship from San Francisco to Perth.

Anyone filling a container and want to share costs?

Pallet will be approx 2000 x 1200 x 600 and weigh about 250 kg.

Shipping costs are going through the roof it seams.

It seems to me that you're looking at the most expensive option in San Francisco to Perth.
I think you would have a better chance of success if you got it road freighted to LA, then shipped to Sydney or Melbourne and then freighted to Perth.
Last I checked a years or so ago, my shipping agent was charging $1K/cubic mt. for LA to Melbourne. Weight usually doesn't matter as 4 cars in a 40 footer doesn't come anywhere near it's load capacity.

I would ask quotes for different combinations of ports and see the best solution. I don't have the most recent prices, but I believe a 250kg pallet from San Francisco to Perth should cost around AU$1,000/1,500

Cheers for all the ideas, I'll do some more research after the holiday break.
