Title: 2015/2016 mustang owners reports
Post by: GLENN 70 on January 05, 2016, 09:04:19 pm
Thought it would be nice for all the lucky new owners to show and tell us about their new 2016 mustangs .  What you think , how good it is or bad ,etc etc .

Don't have one, but a newby waiting for its owner at the Ford dealer today. Black with black wheels. Sweet looking ride. I was in my 69 so I think that's better. Very nice inside, but that back seat is a waste. Might get a pigmy in it!! Thought my 69 was bad!!

I tried sitting in the back of one to test the seat and when the seat was slid back it is so low to the floor that I couldn't fit my feet under it.

After four days ownership of my wifes daily drive ecoboost convertible, I got access to the keys for the second time tonight.  My job was to go and get pizza.  I opened the boot to put pizza in as there is not much room in the car and I was greeted by 6 pairs of shoes in boxes and a few stray shoes.  Maybe when you have a new car you need a new wardrobe? or maybe it has just been a long time since I got into one of her other cars.....
- The car goes very very well and is easy to use.
- interior feels good quality
- it is the hardest car I have ever washed, there are many nooks and crannys especially in the rear tail lights and under the bumpers front and rear, the washing sponge on the roof feels like fingernails on a chalkboard.
- I do miss the V8 rumble of my 65 but the performance largely makes up for that. nearly.
- With all the rain in nsw this week we have not found any leaks.
- The stereo is very good.
- The voice activation of the GPS/phone/stereo works very well.
- The car is a bit hard to get out in and out of gracefully unless the doors are wide open and you need a lot of room for that.
- The seats are very comfy but I don't think they will wear very well as you seem to put a lot of pressure/friction on the side of the seat to climb in and out of the car.
- Most people don't know what the car is but seem to suspect that it is a bit more exotic than a mustang.
- There is a small pocket in the front of the console that looks like not a bad place to put your phone but I have twice accidently bumped the toggle switch that turns on the hazard lights.
- There is bugger all room in the back seat (sorry kids your mum is in mid life crisis too and needed a mustang) and there is only room for two kids but we have three.
- Everybody loves the mustang lights that shine on the road from under the rear vision mirrors when the car is unlocked.
- For the young guys on a date the handbrake on the passengers side of the console is an opportunity to feel your passengers upper leg (there is no other option) as you reach for the handbrake, but be careful if its your sons girlfriend. sorry apologies again.
- The car seems very wide on the outside but small on the inside.
- With the roof up on my 65 vert there is no sound deadening, but in the new car with the roof up it feels like any other sedan there must be a lot of sound deadening between the inner and outer roof.
- if it sounded a bit better and they nailed the bonnet shut and told you it was a V8 judging by the performance you wouldn't know it wasn't.

Cheers
BB

Excellent report thank you  :thumb: .  Seeing it can fit all those shoe boxes do you think it could fit a spare wheel ? .  I wonder if they will move the hand brake to the right hand side on next years model for the right hand drive exports .

6 pairs of shoes in 4 days = nearly 550 in one year ...she spends at that rate and you can still afford a new Stang? I take my hat off to you sir!

That boot looks tiny, I wonder how it compares to the 2014 boot?  When I drove a V6 and a GT in 2014 over in the US I could fit two large suitcases on their sides in the boot.

I think the photo may be making it look at bit small. When I saw the boot up close it looks a reasonable size.

Well, it looks a tad larger than my 2002 boot, and I've fitted everything into that apart from a body and a block. You would be surprised how much stuff you can get in them when you need to.

We drive a 2015 vert in US in August and the boot is definitely larger that my wife's 2007 GT vert. I think the section at the front of the boot that contains the top when down must be much more refined than the older models.

Race Red GT fastback auto picked up on Tuesday, 4 days ago. My impression after 4 days and about 200km.

It looks stunning. Lower and wider than photos suggest.  :thumb: I am happy with my race red choice.  I was worried it may be too light or orange but it is good and looks fantastic with the black wheels and other black accents.

The interior is good overall but there are some areas that could be improved. Improvement in some materials would cost more, so you can't have it both ways.

The seats are comfortable - softer than I am used to, but give good support restrict side movement.

The technology in the car seems excellent but still exploring.  The sync2 system seems very good too.

The important stuff...
Performance - Nearly all the driving I have done is in General mode. I tried Sport mode and the difference was remarkable with the engine revving more freely, but call me old fashioned, I would like to run it in before using Sport mode with gusto.  That said, the performance in General mode is fantastic. The sweet coyote V8 burbles along and is very responsive with a very satisfying growl. Can't wait till I have run it in a bit.

Ride - the ride is firmer than I expected.  Unfortunately, I drive along tram tracks to work and the bumps are a bit harsh. I had a quick (as in short) drive through the Dandenong ranges today and some sections were pretty rough but the GT handled the bad road through corners without any issue. (see handling). On a smooth road it truly is a grand tourer.

Handling - much better than I expected.  The GT is sharp, planted and poised.  It's fantastic!!  The steering feels sharp and the grip gives great confidence as it sits flat through a corner.  It may not handle as well as a BMW M3 but the balance between all the elements makes it more fun to drive, IMHO.  :))

Fuel economy - economy may not be the right word, but it doesn't seem too bad.  Remember, only around 200km, so I am not sure how accurate or indicative this will be.  Before my drive through the Dandenong ranges, it was 16.5 l/100km.  After, it had dropped to 14.7 l/100km.

Paint work - the race red looks stunning and generally the quality of the paint work is excellent.  No swirl marks and a rich feel to the overall look.  There were some minor issues though. There are a couple of faults in the paint work on mine and apparently this is not uncommon with the Mustangs delivered so far.  In my case, there are two small (match head size) bubbles (?) and three scratch like lines on the bonnet.  Ford have agreed to fix them under warranty, as they should.  But from my perspective, I don't really want to leave my car in a panel shop for a few days.  I will find out more when I go there for their evaluation on the best fix.

Issues - none except the paint work mentioned.

I hope this is helpful to those members patiently waiting for their new  :event:

After four days and 600 km my car runs beautifully looks gorgeous but also suffers from flaws in the paint. Three of which will have to be repaired, my dealer has told me to drop it in  to the paint shop and send him the bill. Seats are a little to hard for my liking as is the ride but after lowering the air pressure from 38 to 32 psi the latter has improved.  Fuel economy is of little importance but I manage to get 400 km out of the first tank before refuelling.  Cheers Ron

I think the stock exhaust sounds great.
Only if you turn off the traction control.

A couple of other points to report...

Service book - I didn't get a Ford or Mustang service book. Only a book from the dealer for their extended protection plan. I haven't followed up with the dealer yet but did any other owners get a service book?

Cruise control - someone asked if it was adaptive cruise control - it's not.

K-brace - the k-brace included with a GT is different than the US version (at least on mine). The first picture shows the US k-brace.

I have noticed the auto climate control doesn't kick in the AC compressor unless AC is selected.  This is not how it is described in the manual, or how I would expect it to operate.  Any other Mustang owners with the same issue?

A couple of trivial things to report... I found the shipping sticker from the Ford factory in the glove box today.  I hadn't looked in the glove box before because there were much better things to look at.   :thumb:  For those interested, it states that it has Sync3 but my GT has Sync2.  Not upset, just fyi.  Also, my GT came with wheel lock nuts.  Very unexpected because I had already bought some from the US. Bummer.

Hi Gt Sally the paint marks were two chips in the driver's door ,two paint chips on the edges of the Bonnet, one near the wipers one near the side and clear coat lifting on the rear bumper where it goes under the taillight and a series of silicon dots on the front bumper bar.  All very minor and easily repaired but still a little disappointing.  The positives far outweigh the little negatives very happy overall. cheers Ron

Thanks for the feedback Ron.....
The chips, understandable but not acceptable, the clear lifting, that's not good.....as for silicon, that's a painters nightmare...Sounds like my son will be VERY picky on my delivery. As he mainly does restos, he is quite fastidious, so I hope my car is perfect, otherwise Ford will be hit with a nice bill

Another thing was when you lift the hood it doesn't stay up ,you have to get the old steel rod thing happening like in the 40s and 50s  .

Whilst checking out some other late model vehicles (non mustang), I noticed there hand brake wasn't on the correct side either.  So it would appear any vehicle that's being made for the global market don't move the handbrake.

Places like Late Model Restorations (www.lmr.com (http://www.lmr.com)) or CJ Pony Parts (www.cjponyparts.com (http://www.cjponyparts.com)) (and probably a lot of others) sell gas hood struts to remove the prop rod at the front.

LMR actually have quite a lot of cool looking stuff for new Mustangs!

Ill have to thabk glenn 70 for this at first i was to excited to notice the floors but over all we love the car. People have been stoping and trying to get photos all day some guy nearly crashed into another car trying to take a photo while driving

Picked up our RR GT Fastback today too. 14.5 km on the clock at handover and 257 km now (bit of a drive from our dealership). Found no flaws with the car after a good going over other and so very happy with the purchase. The carbon fibre gear knob isn't in yet but the boot liner was a good purchase. I even got a car seat in the back and we picked up our 19 month old son from day car in it too... he loved it!!!

Looking forward to getting slim plates for both front and back but was pretty happy with how the front plate ended up when we attached straight to the bumper (stuff using that bloody monstrosity of a bracket that is supplied with the car lol)

My car was on the same ship, held up a little in Port Kembla but appears I might have it within the next week.....I too have a new booster seat for my 6 YO grandson.....he'll be the first passenger, but I think he might like my "66 better as he can see everything around him....

If its complied in Australia in 2015  its a 2015 model .  If its 1 st regerested now in 2016 but complied in 2015 its a 2015 model . Even tho in America they call late year build dates the next year , that's for the USA only . It all comes down to when it gets its Australian compliance .  Take new cars sold now this month ior next  month and 2016 and the compliance plate says 2015 that's it for the rest of its life its a 2015 .

The new mustangs that are hear now can be 2015 or 2016 models it comes down to when it goes through the Australian compliance not when it's built or sold or how long its been here . And yes Ryan yours is a 2015 model not a 2016 and never will be .

So with the sprinkling of rain around this morning I gave the Wet/Snow mode a go. I must say that it is very noticeable, the car feels a lot less responsive but safer at the same time (if that makes any sense what so ever). We had to buy a new pram today as our current one will not fit in the boot. Did a run down to the home maker centre in Springwood and parking can be a challenge if you are getting a toddler in an out of the back seat due to the fact you need the room to open the back door quite a way.

Started to cop a bit of the dirties from some old tart when we pulled up and parked in the "parents with prams" parking - well till she saw we had Seb and were in fact parents with a pram haha

You certainly wouldn't want to buy one of these if you want to keep a low profile. Lots of people taking photos - even two of the guys from the Holden dealership down at Springwood. Their sale mustn't be going to o well if they have time to stand out the front and take photos of a Ford hahah =)

Love the car. I loved my MKII Focus RS MP350 and was devastated when it was sold to fund a wedding and replaced with a Nissan X-Trail (what the hell was I thinking) but I think I have moved on finally and so has the X-Trail =)

Decided to give Sport+ mode a go today. Flicked over to it at the lights on the way home from grocery shopping. The idle went up from about 650 to 800, and when I gave it a bit of happy juice to "get up to the legal speed limit" the punch around 3,500 was noticeably more potent than in Normal mode. Change to second wasn't (longevity of) tyre friendly. The 80 kph speed limit came by rather quickly. All in all I think I'll stick with the Normal mode mostly - but it is nice to know what the others do. That said I am not quite ready to give the Track mode a test just yet haha.

Hi all,

Picking up the new ride in a couple of weeks.  Was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the best size personalised plates to purchase that will fit best on the 2015 mustang.  I'm in QLD but am pretty sure most states have similar dimensions for plates.

All help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Cheers,
Grant

gedore welcome ,and  for plate size if it were me I think I would get std QLD size for the rear and slimline size for the front and not use the factory backing plate they have for the car .   Unless you want to go USA size plates and if then I would go USA size on the rear and slimline for front .

It will probably loosen up a bit after the 1600m klm run in period - you haven't done that many in the few days since you picked it up have you? Or maybe you have

The wiper motors are servo motors - so with the car turned off you can position the wipers wherever you want and then lift the blades. Once you are done just put the blades back down and leave the wipers where they are. Next time you turn the car on they will return to the home position. Servo systems are much better than the old mechanical linkage style. Photobucket is down but when is back up I can post images I took this morning.

I guess I was dreaming today when I hit the pay button for some of my bolt on mods! Going to get a aces port and intercooler. The best thing about the access port is its like I tunes it gets updated tunes you can upload into your car. From what I've seen this alone gets you a extra 30-50hp. You can also clear codes with this thing.

Title: Re: 2015/2016 mustang owners reports
Post by: 4STANG on January 23, 2016, 11:31:04 pm
Okay folks, picked up the Ecoboost Mustang this morning and thought I would share my initial observations. My wife, my son and myself have all done a total of about 220kms today. I currently own a manual diesel Toyota Hiace and a DSG diesel Skoda Octavia so will draw a few comparisons to my regular drives.

LOOKS  Looks better in the flesh than in photo's. Wheel proportions are great, not too much guard/tyre clearance, definitely sexier than the Skoda or the Hiace (ha ha).

INTERIOR The finish looks great and whilst not quite in AUDI/VW/SKODA territory, is fantastic. Seats, comfort, ergonomics are all great but the centre console I feel is the biggest letdown. I will touch on that in a separate paragraph.

FRONT VISION The bonnet is longer than any car I have previously owned, however, the front of the car is visible and easily judged for manoeuvring.

POWER It is not a rocket ship but still very lively, extremely easy to shift back from 6th to 3rd at highway speeds and put the foot to the floor. It will give most cars a view of its tail lights, but clearly requires using the gearshift as well as the throttle more often than a V8.

RIDE Compared to my Skoda, which I have always liked, it is firmer, as is to be expected from a performance car fitted with a performance package.  Very liveable as an everyday prospect.

STEERING The steering is quick and accurate but just a little sensitive and twitchy around centre. It does require a little more concentration than the Skoda, but once off centre comes into it's own.  The turning circle isn't great so parking requires a little more planning.

GEAR SHIFT The throw is actually shorter than I was expecting, not quite MX5, but not far off it. As I stated earlier, damn easy to drop from 6th to 3rd and put the foot down.

CLUTCH Light and progressive (not quite as smooth and progressive as my manual Hiace though) and will take just a little more familiarisation to master (probably helps that the Hiace has a lower revving engine).

BRAKES Feel like there is more braking capacity than I will ever use, but does have a larger inital bite on first application than I am used to. Better feel than a Lamborghini LP550 Gallardo that I drove once (Steel discs) but not as strong or progressive as a carbon braked Ferrari 458 I once had the privilege of driving.

SOUND Outside, the car sounds like a four cylinder car, nothing out of the ordinary. Inside, with the addition of the faux electonic sounds, it reminds me of the flat four burble of a Subaru. Kind of nice, not intrusive, but definitely does not sound real.

SPARE TYRE There isn't one and only the ecoboost can be optioned with a factory mini spare. Listed as a $195US option in America but a $1157AUS option here (last time I looked). You do not get a jack or wheel spanner, just a contraption that contains a replaceable canister of latex goo and a 12volt air compressor, not too reassuring for any type of distance driving. Already got myself an ARB plug kit, better quality air compressor and extendable wheel spanner (just need an effective jack to complete my version of Ford's poor excuse for a flat tyre fix)

CENTRE CONSOLE The park brake lever is on the passenger side, thats no biggie as far as I am concerned. But the only cupholders for the whole car are directly under the drivers left forearm, totally impractical for the combination of a tall cup and effective manual gear shifting. A better solution would have been to put the cupholders at the back of the console so any of the 4 seats could use the cupholders, with a recess for storage where the cupholders are currently located along with a cover that also acted as an armrest.

PASSENGERS FOOT WELL The passenger foot well is shallower than the drivers, so if the car is carrying three people of equal height (as long as they aren't all over 6 foot) means that the front passengers seat is generally further back than the drivers, so the rear passenger is more likely to sit behind the driver.

EXTRAS Came with a set of Antitheft Wheel Locknuts in the glovebox and an ashtray/coin cup already in the car, also has front floor mats standard and alloy foot pedals with fantastic footwell and door aperture lighting.

Looking forward to more driving and familiarisation, but damn that is one fantasic looking car.

Gotta say that there aren't many 1965/66 cars that look so good today as the 65/66 Mustang does.  I picked up my Race Red GT just over 3 weeks ago.   :thumb:  You won't be disappointed with race red, even though the ruby red looks great.  I wondered about my choice too until I saw her the first time.

Last Sunday on my way home, I passed a parked 65 Mustang in a similar race red.  I should have stopped, done a Uee and parked in front for a picture, but only thought about it a few hours later.

Anyone have a delivery date yet for a 2016 build?
What are the difference bedsides the number on the sticker?
Mine was built on Jan 15 and due in Aus end of March.
Will that be the first shipment of 2016 builds?

Took delivery today & home just b4 the Sydney storm, so no pics.
There are a few factory issues which I will post with fotos when I get a chance, but IT is a product of mass production.
Surprisingly for an American built vehicle, the driving position suits my vertically challenged disability (160cm).
The gear throw will take a little getting used to (tried to accelerate from 40kph thinking I was in 4th, was in 6th...lol), having driven only 2kms. The throw is very short but concise, great clutch feel.
The hill start assist is weird but great.
Overall very nice to drive & sounds "FN" awesome inside the cabin.

.........There are a few factory issues which I will post with fotos when I get a chance, but IT is a product of mass production.......
Pax door alignment, very thin almost transparent film of sealant at both lower corners of rear screen (an invitation to rust very quickly), rear bar doesn't fit well & bonnet catch way out of adjustment (there is already a youtube video regarding this adjustment).
A few areas at panel joints need attention, good old cavity wax, will leave yellow stains in hidden areas, but better than holes from potential rust.
NO I will not take it back to Ford, all work will be carried out at my sons' workshop

So time for an update. Have now had the car for 8 days and done around 1200kms. Can get around 600 to 700kms per tank. Last fill the trip computer stated 9.1 litres/100kms but when calculated on a full tank vs distance worked out at 9.8 litres/100kms (typical, most computers are optimistic, have now owned 3 cars with trip computers and two have been optimistic and one has been pessimistic).

One tyre pressure monitor is not working and as seen in a previous post the bumper/bonnet alignment is pretty average but otherwise a fantastic looking vehicle that is a joy to drive.

Have also had a closer look at the turbo downpipe and it does appear to be different from the left hand market, so anybody considering a downpipe/exhaust will need a custom job or wait for a right hand market version.

After reading all the Mustang aficianado's saying "how could anyone possibly have an ecoboost Mustang", all I can say is "easily". It's powerful (enough), economical and the same looks and $12500 cheaper.

Ford has informed me that any orders from feb will have upgrade options for the exhaust and a supercharger and all covered under warranty. Anyone with current orders can also add the upgrades before delivery.

Saw a black GT in the flesh yesterday up Mt Tamborine, standard black wheels, auto.  Looked amazing!  Took a few happy snaps and then saw it drive off - definitely needs a louder exhaust than standard!

Seat has markings on the side of it I thought it was dirt but it's more like a scratch that won't come out. the paint is very thin on the drivers quater panel too you can see it more in full sunlight.

Nothing solid yet, depends on which kits they bring over, could be the roush upgrades or something else. Id say an exhaust updrade would be $3000 - $3500 and the supercharger would be at least $10000 upwards.

They also said they can lower it and have 2 or 3 body kit options for the front and the spoiler. keep your eyes open for variations when you see new mustangs around April / May.

Michael Pentecost at Clancy's Ford Bathurst has a few spare for the Eco - pretty sure they don't fit the GT due to the different brake

caliper size, he is investigating that also.

Any questions about the cost of either set of wheels contact Michael directly - I negotiated them in my deal.

I keep forgetting to ask if anyone else had the "E10 Suitable" sticker in the fuel filler of their 2015 GT? Mine did - I reckon the person working that part of the line was so excited about pumping the RHD versions out they had a brain fart. Needless to say I took it off quick smart - just wondering if anyone else got that yellow sticker too?

Hi Ryan, got my ecoboost about 10 days ago. I assume that you have installed your intercooler, cold air intake and cobb accessport. If so, what is the verdict, how much difference has it made.

From what I can tell the Ecoboost is E10 suitable but the GT is 98. The USA version of the GT is E85 capable. Ford Aus have been quick to say "hell no" to E10 capability of the GT from my chats lol

Intercooler was a perfect fit I think it seems to fit better then the old one and much bigger. Has all the cut outs and bits to go into the origianl factory position and sensor plug you will not find on a aftermarket cooler. My car seems much happier with it on now. map proformance are the guys to see I have the owners direct email he's pretty good to deal with.

The acess port well it DOSENT work the au version Is diffrent to the U.S. so the tune won't up load.  The good news is cob is making a tune for this in the next few weeks I'll be able to download it from my computer then Install it to my car just like a i tunes up date.

Haven't received the roush cold intake yet or bov.

Ebay link for the intercooler I wouldn't waste ur money on the pipe kit it is of no benefit.

Yes was an expencive way to find out it dosent work only $1000. I ended up ringing cob up in the States early morning luckly I got a very help full person who could help. he said he will send me a tune to fix my problems in the next few weeks. at this stage may have been cheaper to pay someone to do it localy.

I will do cat back next from map! they seem to be the guys to see for the ecoboost mustangs if u want quality gear.

Hi guys,
How's everyone going with insurance? I know some companies won't insure the 2015 Stang at all (e.g. Budget Direct, hell knows why) and the price of the others varies wildly. I've had an on-line quote from Dodo Insurance for $480 and one from GIO for $1080. My current insurer is RACV as they insured my last car, and I've just stayed with them for the initial period but at $1000 I don't know if they are particularly good value. But at least I know if something happens (on past experience) they cover and its relatively pain free. Not sure if it would be as smooth with someone like Dodo??

Budget Direct gave me an online quote of $818. Only driver, garaged in Ascot Vale, rating 1, full comprehensive. If I added my wife, the cost would go up to $822. Does that mean she's only valued at $4.00?  When I pick up the car in the next week, I'll give Ryno a call; they insure my '69.

We have our three Mustangs with Ryno, premium this year was 1400 pa all up - 66, 07 and 08 models. All are on restricted driver cover for my wife and I, and limited kms, 4000pa, 8000pa and 4000pa respectively. If you think you will exceed these limits in any insurance year,  just requires a simple phone call to Ryno to go back to regular cover and pay the additional pro-rata premium. Our policy is due for renewal in May and I expect the premium to increase, but Ryno provides the option to pay monthly. This may help. I found them a lot cheaper than Shannon's

I insured my 2015 GT about a month ago with Allianz, my current insurer for the past 5+ years.  They weren't the cheapest at $1065 but I think the choice of repairer is worth the extra. My insurance was for an agreed value of $65K and $800 excess.

My suggestion for Hi Ho Silver is to check the policy to make sure you are happy with the outcome if you need to make a claim. For me, a choice of repairer is essential because at least you have some input with the outcome and the repairer is more committed to a quality job. Just my opinion.

I would be interested to hear from Ryan (Shelby Mustro) about his insurance with the mods he is making.  I called Allianz because I want to put a cold air intake on my GT.  They won't insure you if you have any mods.

Thanks guys. Austang, your premium sounds very close to mine, similar conditions and excess. I've got the Ecoboost conv, though, so might be worth trying Allianz. How can a relative newcomer like Dodo Insurance offer $480 insurance with a $700 excess? They actually risk people not taking up their insurance simply because it seems too cheap?

Yeah Hi Ho, you get what you pay for.  Before I decided to pay more, about $230 pa more, I called a good panel repairer.  He said Allianz and QBE were the best to deal with.  He may have mentioned GIO also. If the panel repairer thinks some insurance companies are better, I think that means it is better for the customer and the end job.  Happy to hear opinions.

Not true, ask whether the repairer is approved or partnered or neither. Approved repairers are at the beck & call of insurance co's & not in the best interest of the customer and basically there are 2 major players, IAG (NRMA etc) & AAI (GIO etc) . Better to go with Shannons or Lumley (which BTW are tied in with the afore mentioned 2) but at least you can choose your own repairer without hassles. Having said that, legally you can INSIST on your own repairer by law no matter who you are insured with, don't let the insurance co brainwash you nor steer you to their repairer. Insurance co's make it very difficult for the customer & insist you take your vehicle to a preferred repairer, a small independent repairer will give you better service. The whole insurance/repair industry is going thru a big change ATM, insurance co's are closing assessment centres, on-line assessments for repairers, which in some cases are outsourced to private assessment contractors....how do I know this?....family business in the game! At the end of the day, if you know some who knows someone & that someone has been recommended to you, then safe to trust that repairer....our business has grown by word of mouth through trusted clients.

I have only had the one experience and both the repairer and insurance company were excellent.  I don't want to argue with an insurance company every step of the way to select a good repairer.

But I am interested to know about members who have insurance for a 2015 Mustang with modifications to engine etc.

I know this post is about the 2015/2016 mustang reports but talking insurance not happy with Shannon's at the moment with a small claim on my house insurance ,getting the run a round big time .  Don't think they like handing $1,800 over and after 12 years of being with them . My cars are not with them any more and the house won't be for much longer .
Shannons should have stayed with car/vehicle insurance only...they were devoured by Suncorp...I rest my case, but they still do give LSV (car/vehicle, no CTP etc only) some competition.

I followed a red GT down from Brisbane to Gold Coast today . From behind the white tail lights look crap and even worse from a side angle until the red brake lights come on . The rear panel under the rear b bar didn't look good in red either . Lucky woman in the drivers seat tho .  And if you are reading this please give your car a wash and clean the brake dust off the front wheels   :thumb:

Yeah the white tail lights look crap.

But I dont think people will want to wait until 2018 to see if the new redesign retains white lights in europe and Australia.

I was fortunate to get a drive of a demo Eco boost fastback today, the dealer called and said it had arrived, and they were taking appointments for those who had the mustang on order, to take the Eco boost for a drive, and spend some time checking it out.

As I pulled out of the dealership, the brakes were noticeably responsive, a quick tap on the peddle made you lurch in the seat, on acceleration if I didn't know it was a 4cyl, I would for sure have pegged it as a V6, the acceleration was swift and crisp, surprisingly gutsy, this was in normal mode, when switching to sport mode, the revs climbed a whisker and it became so much more responsive, held the gears longer, and firmer down shifts as braking occurred, so winding through back streets and through roundabouts was quite a bit of fun.

The handling was pretty good, it went where it was pointed, the suspension was a little hard when on a bad road.

The seats are really comfortable, it was pretty warm today, so the auto cooling function in the seat was well tested and a nice comfort, the overall dash and layout when driving was good with everything in reach, the vision is surprisingly good, the hand brake while on the left, isn't really an issue and while isn't ideal, I didn't feel it was anything to complain about.

The bonnet is long, but adds to the sporty feel of the car, overall the Eco boost was a pleasant surprise, drove well, and went pretty hard, if I compared it to say an XR6, it felt lighter and more responsive, less labouring in the acceleration.

Would I be unhappy having the Eco boost parked in the driveway, Hell No, it's a lot of fun to drive, but I can't wait to take delivery of the V8 GT we have on order.

Had mine 12 days now....can't believe I haven't sat in the back seat yet! (did spend time on my knees treating the leather tho') saving that for my 6 yo grandson Friday when I pick him up from school. Booster seat fits perfectly, just hope n pray he likes it as much as he likes the 66GT...best thing other the looks & performance of this car is the cooled seats...awesome!!!!!!!

Glenn, I thought the same about the clear lenses, now I have this angel sitting in my abode, I've changed my mind, they look great, especially at night...having said that, it has distracted from the gen1 stangs, but we are 50 years on....I did order a tint kit which did not show up before my car, fortunately for me I paid via paypal, so less than 24 hours of my complaint, I had my AU$130 back into my bank....I must add that my car is white so the clear which is more white suits it....

Yes the white tail lights don't look to bad on your white car .  On the red one today I don't think so . I followed it for around 40 Klms and I think it might have looked better with a rear spoiler also ,looked a bit plain from the rear .  Good from the side and good from the front . Just my thoughts so don't get upset anyone .

Glenn, at 64yo, still young at heart but I'm not a hoon...well just alittle....yes, I think the spoiler looks good, but "delete" on the performance pack even in the states, don't understand! I'm very very happy with mine, performance/handling & comfort is great but typically Ford, very poor body/panel fitment (fixable), gaps more misaligned than the plastic dunny seat on an outhouse in an aussie desert township, .....having those gaps fixed courtesy my sons' workshop....Overall, exceptional value for money, lets see if it will still be around in 50 years, well, we won't but others will...

Over the years and multiple cars I've always got quotes from the three main classic insurers (Shannons, LSV, Ryno) before insuring and Shannons always quoted higher than the other two. I insured once with LSV, and Ryno with the rest. When I wrote off my BF F6 I was in a new car in two weeks with no hassles with Ryno.

Not much more to add to what has already been posted except . . . :

The GT does has DAB radio but there is no Sub in the boot as already noted. For those who have asked but didn't get an answer, it does have a reversing camera and audible proximity alarms. The side mirrors can be folded in remotely and it comes with auto wipers. There is no spare wheel but there is a well for a spare if you want to go after-market.

I haven't tried all the driving modes yet; it was wet here today, but even in snow/wet mode it was pretty quick off the mark. On a full tank, I am advised by the on-board computer that I have a range of around 600 kms. I've put around 150 on the clock so far and it has used a quarter of a tank so 600 looks pretty spot on.

It handles well and although it can feel a bit hard on rough roads, it is much smoother than my NC MX5. The shift is tight, almost as tight as the MX5 and the clutch, although taking a bit of getting used to after driving the Mazda, is not too hard to engage at all. In that respect, I'm glad that I stuck with the manual shiift.

The dealer advised me that putting on a Roush exhaust won't void the car's warranty but will probably affect the warranty on the exhaust. The sound out of the pipes is pretty good for a standard exhaust but is pretty quiet inside the cabin. When the Roush system goes in, I expect it will turn the growl into a roar but still not be too loud inside.

Following the first 3000 km service, service intervals are 1 year; 15,000 kms or when the check engine light comes on.

It did come with a manual so for those who didn't get one, go back to your dealer and demand that they provide you with one.

When I have done a bit more driving, I'll add some more information but as it stands, I am pretty impressed with it so far.

Cheers

Dave

Looks good and certainly a lot better that a standard plate, but I also didn't keep the OEM front license plate mount for the car either and now I'm wondering the best way to mount the front plate - any advice guys?

Yep that's a fail
I already told my Dealer if he drills holes in my car I will be extremely unhappy.
I had to cut 20mm off the top to make it same height as my slimline plates
You can even get electronic automatic retraction ones so you can flip them under the car while testing the wind resistance of your windscreen.
Not that I would do that.

Thanks for the report. Good info re the centre console. We will need to see who comes up with the best spare wheel/jack etc alternatives
Just went on line to trusty old eBay. Managed to get a OEM spare with tyre and jack for around $AUS450 delivered from the states. There were cheaper OEM kits available but no delivery outside the US so I bit the bullet.

Trev,

I hope that you are wrong. I checked and was advised that it did fit the GT but not one with 20" wheels. If you are correct, I am sure that there will be an Ecoboost owner who would like the kit at a price much cheaper than what is available here. Time will tell.

I think the issue is the larger rotors on the GT performance pack, not the 20" wheel size.  So, the guy on Ebay may be right for most GTs in the US, but not GTs with the performance pack.  The ecoboost performance pack has smaller rotors.

I in WA so the plates are perspex slimline.
I might not have been clear I had to reduce the size of the actual plate holder by 20mm and re drill new mounting holes.
Will take a picture when I get the car.

I have had the Mustang for a week now and have put 650 on the clock - some freeway driving, city commuting and a run through the Dandenongs last weekend. It's using around 14 lts per 100 kms on average but I expect this will drop a little as things bed down. Overall I am impressed. Here are some more thoughts in addition to my last post on the matter.

I was surprised to find that the indicator stalk is on the right hand side; the washer/wiper stalk is thus on the left. The "Japanese" configuration was not expected. Adjustable rain sensor auto wipers are an extra treat. Having the hand break on the left of the console is not a big issue but I did have to ask my wife to take her drink bottle out of the cup holder because it was in the way when I shifted gears. I was also surprised to find that it has hill start assist, a la Subaru; not that I need to use it

There has been chat about the clutch. As I think I mentioned last post, it is pretty light but there is a lot of travel when compared to the '12 Subaru Forester. I drove the Subaru last evening for the first time in two weeks and noticed how little travel the clutch peddle had as I lurched down the road after letting it out too fast. I hope that I didn't give my wife whip lash.

Visibility is pretty good and is aided by the rear view camera with predictive position lines shown on the screen when reversing. I do find the position of the front left hand guard difficult to judge when turning into my garage - I park the car on the left hand side so am cautious about bumping the wall. Proximity sensors on the front would be useful. I have glued some 2 x 4 to the deck on the garage to assist parking as the nose of the car is also hard to pinpoint as it slopes down a bit. Lifting the electric seat up helps in this regard - I'm around 5' 8".

I haven't mastered all the info offered in the Sync 2 system yet because there is so much info that is available - manifold temp, voltage, vacuum, tyre pressure, time to reach given speeds, acceleration, the list goes on. The sound system is reasonable too even without the sub in the boot. It plays MP3, mwa, and apple tunes while the DAB sound is reasonable too. Most of the info systems can be controlled from the steering wheel. What I haven't been able to set is the speed display on the gps system. My TomTom provides speed but the onboard system doesn't seem to have it; perhaps I am just missing some obvious option.

I am still confused about the DRLs. As I have mentioned in another thread, when the lights are set to auto, the lower round lights come on during the day. When the lights are turned off and the fog light button is pressed, the same lights illuminate. It seems that the DRLs are the same as the fog lights, which must be wrong given that using fog lights is illegal when visibility is not restricted (wish more people knew that). I'll have to look into that one more carefully.

I am still amazed that a spare tyre is not available for the GT with the Brembo brake option. God help anyone who has a  blow out or even a puncture. The tyre goop and pump kit won't help in a blow out and will kill the tyre and the pressure sensor in the case of a puncture or slow leak.

The car is comfortable and quiet but as noted previously sounds great when the foot is planted. The seat cooling system works a treat and the AC packs a punch and quickly cools the interior down when required.

I like it and, more importantly, my wife likes it so it's a winner in my books.

See the following link to the Mustang6g web site, (Australian Section), re the Spare Wheel option for the GT with Brembo front brakes. You need to read the entire thread. It makes interesting reading and comes up with a suitable Rim and Tyre.

I am going down this track.

Tempe Tyres ship Australia wide

Gotta laugh the spare only costs $195US but $1157AUS. Lucky Ford Australia didn't apply this pricing methodology to the Mustang, would have cost $250K. Just bought a plumbers bag ($50 Supercheap Auto), ARB plug kit ($50 ARB), Bushranger 12 volt compressor ($120 ARB), scissor jack ($50) Supercheap Auto) and threw in an old tyre lever. Other than a total tyre failure this set up is fare more dependable than the goo and compressor that Ford supplies and will fit in the spare wheel recess.

On thing I discovered this weekend that I hadn't noticed before was the manual (in the GT but I assume the Ecoboost too) has rev matching on the upshift. So instead of having to feather the accelerator when shifting up a gear to match driveshaft speeds, the car does it for you (well for about three or four seconds which is ample time). Something I had never noticed before till now.

I also go under the car while it was on the hoist for the 3,000 km checkup (I've only done 2,250 but shmeh) and I have to say that these cars have been built to last. Everything is chunky and solid. The diff is remnant of an old 9", the suspension components are huge and the gearbox is (literally) out of a truck. The more I get to know the car, the more I appreciate it and enjoy it =)

Auto climate control question:
I have a question about the Automatic Climate control for anyone who has picked up their new Mustang...

When you select Auto, do you also need to select A/C for the air conditioning to operate?

No, selecting auto switches fan & A/C on even when fan power is off.

Thanks Gazza.  That’s how I would expect it to work and how previous cars I have owned with climate control work.  But my Mustang isn't, so I just wanted to check that it wasn't by design. I will add it to my list when I get it serviced. Cheers.

Who knows, but that is the situation on my S550, I've never owned a car with such technology, my last new car with latest tech was 1995...I must say the "cooled seat function" is great, besides the handling, performance & comfort (front seat), this function is the best feature considering our latest weather patterns in Sydney.
Summing up, performance, handling, comfort as a driver 100%.... 1st gear is very short (mine is manual) & easy to hit the rev limiter, 2nd gear is "whoooah", 6th gear is truly highway o/drive. Style interior & exterior 100%.....exterior finish, very poor panel alignment, paint finish fairly good for a "sausage factory" produced vehicle.....found a few nuts & clips missing or not fitted properly, yet to get it up on the hoist, but overall, I'm very, very happy. As my boys are in the auto trade, a lot of their customers seeing mine have commented...."a lot of car for the money"...my comment..."a lot of money for a retired dude....but HELL, I deserve it!

Someone recently asked about what radios are installed in the 2015 delivered vehicles.

I've booked ours in for it's 3000klm service - dealer has advised that an upgrade to digital is available and takes about 40 mins to complete.

After they finish realigning the panels  :leaving:

Got my cargo liner & net delivered today from Sydney dealer. Liner was on back order from states but they found one at another dealer...get in early & list price is less than Fords website so my suggestion is don't order with you're vehicle, you may save about $30. List price was $181.82 (liner) & $43.64 (net) + GST. You will save a bit more if you're a "Ford Trade Club" member....

Had mine since end of January, yesterday discovered the RH mirror puddle lamp image is somewhat distorted & today after a very, very light sprinkle of rain, both tail lights had condensation inside....car has only been washed twice & subjected to light rain twice....overall I'm very happy with performance & comfort & the 'wow" factor, finish is a disappointment but it "IS" a product of mass production. I have no regrets of my purchase ....have upgraded the exhaust also, now it sounds like a V8 should... :evilone:

Interesting - based on the price of that outfit for a 2300cc blower, I looked up an article that I use as a bench mark for my 2003 Cobra engine - the engine/cars are different but the theory and practices are the same regarding Cold Air Intakes, exhausts, Intake Air Temps and boost efficiencies from larger blowers, I thought you guys considering a S/C might want to read this?

I'm getting around 14 per 100. This is mostly city driving, which includes only a little stop start traffic, 80 kph driving with frequent traffic light stops, and some short freeway spurts. It is usually against peak hour traffic in the morning and evening. I cover around 20 kms in 25 minutes. When I do open road driving at 100 kph plus, the consumption is considerably less, dropping to around 10 per 100. I don't do this much so am not confident that 10 is a good indication of the fuel consumption on the open road. Time will tell.

Cheers

We have just made a Sydney - Adelaide - Sydney run, and on long open road stretches were getting 9.5 / 100. So I think your 10 is pretty accurate.

Also, I stumbled upon this nifty gauge. Careful review of this gauge shows that heavier fuel usage correlates precisely with spirited acceleration!! Who knew?

Just had a Roush axle back installed. It was not the nice fit that was promised but with a little profession adjustment it was made to fit. Had it installed with flanges rather the clamp on method. I must say that the difference in note is staggering. With the windows up and a bit if gentle acceleration, you can hear a nice burble. At cruising rpm (around 2000), the note is good but not really loud inside the cabin. Harder acceleration, however, lets out a roar that sounds like a Mustang should. The system gives out a far more refined note than the Flowmaster American Thunder system in my '69. In short, I like it.

I have had mine now for 5days and love it. But I find the passenger seat more comfortable than the drivers seat because of that lumber support. And it has now got a rattle behind the dash somewhere. So just need to sort this little things out.

Silly question - have you tried the round lumbar adjuster on the drivers seat?

Ours works fine - any more and you would be a hunchback I would have thought.

Cheers

I'm going to a motor auction tomorrow in Brisbane ,  WHY  because they have a 2016 Brand new mustang with 123 klm on the clock , that's all I know and don't know if it's a V8 or a turbo 4 .  All I know it's RED  :pepper:   On another note a friend of mine who is a engine tuner with his own dyno was spending the day dynoing a new V8 mustang today and trying to get some more HP out of it . Will let you know about both later .

I'm keen to know about the dyno. I fitted a Magnaflow catback to my S550 & it definitely seems to have 1 or 2 more ponies, but maybe it's just the decibels fooling my ego  :pepper:

If it hasn't already been mentioned and for anyone interested in further performance upgrades.

Mate was telling me Northmead Auto should have there twin turbo setup available now or very soon, not sure on cost but will apparently be good for 600rwhp on stock internals.

Two Precision 60/62mm rated at 750hp each mounted rearward near the gearbox, air to air cooler and Ford Racing driveshafts.

Similar cars in the US have been running mid 9's with just converter and turbo upgrades only on stock internals.

Food for thought for anyone looking at other options besides a blower.  :thumb:

Yep have tried the adjuster. it  adjusts out a lot but want go back far enough.
I can still feel  it pushing on my lower back.
There is a earlier build Mustang in town, I am going to try and have a seat in that to compare.

That 2016 mustang did not go up for auction today ,but is going up next wends .  They say around $65,000 they are looking for . I went to my local Ford dealer today for a test drive in a V8 auto ,hmm I got up it and it went quite well . $54,546 +$2,795 dealer delivery +$720 rego +$336 compulsory third party +$$2,400 stamp duty so a total drive away price $66,521 and about a 12-18 mth wait .  The auction one , say at $65,000 plus $2600 stamps plus rego $1050 = $68,650 approx  auctions  get now or $66500 new in 12-18 mths . The new one from ford will be a 2017 model and have a spare wheel and jack  :pepper:

Went into the dealership 3weeks ago as I hadn't had any update or any info re:my Deep impact blue GT.

Anyway the new manager informed me that the manager before him selected no customer updates on the system. This could also be a cause if eager soon to be owners like myself haven't heard anything as yet. He wanted an email from me asking for it to be changed. So I sent it, and been getting updates weekly  :thumb:

Glad I went in because my pony HAS been built, transported, and was sitting on a dock in Baltimore. By now they say it's sailing and just waiting for Ford to update system.

Ordered in Sept 2015, est delivery Sept 2016. I Got excited that I'd have the new model, sync 3 and hoped like hell for the bonnet turn signals (which isn't the case) but missed out on that model by 15days   :ouch:  oh well, at least it's early! Late July delivery they say now, just in time for my birthday!

I wasn't sure which section to put this in,  but I can't believe how many new mustangs (2015/16) are for sale on carsales  64 v8s and 25 turbo 4s and the prices that some people are asking to just BULL . A brand new v8 auto is around $65,000 drive away including dealer delivery ,rego and stamp duty ,yet they are asking $70,000 -$80,000 and more on carsales plus rego and stamp duty which can be around $4,000 .They are trying to pick up $10 grand or more and praying on the fact people won't wait 12 mths ,and I wonder if it's working ? . I also wonder because of so many for sale and aren't selling the prices will drop

My 2015 Convertible GT is not for sale, but that hasn't stopped a few asking "how much for your car, bro"

"$200,000"

I'm wondering why, given the high demand and Ford are allocating against back orders, is it a repo or has it something wrong with it and its being offloaded by Ford, does the buyer get full factory warranty?

Sounds strange to put it through an auction no reserve

I went to the auction but it went on and on and the mustang was the last car of the day ,late afternoon and I couldn't stay,  Bugger . The story I was told was the owner bought it hoping to sell it for a good profit ,but sick of all the tyre kickers and want a bees  .  He had a lot of people wanting to test drive it and others that had trade inns . So because he did not buy it to keep put it through the car auctions so they could sell it and he just gets the dollars . It was still as new with about 140 kms on the clock after the auction guys took it for a spin

I have checked the Ford US site and you can only get the spare wheel and jack option on a GT if you don't order the Performance Pack.  All the Australian models have the PP.

Good luck with that but the contract won't help if the wheel doesn't fit when your on the side of the road. Or worse, it fits and then causes damage.

Just a thought, why cant you order a new rim and tyre with your order, have 5 mag wheels. I did that with my FG falcon cost me around $80 ,a lot more if i bought it a spare parts, the xr6 had a space saver and i didn't want that so i order a 5th wheel.

I don't think a full size wheel will fit in the spare wheel well.  If it does, it sticks up a couple of inches.

Post by: GLENN 70 on June 30, 2016, 07:08:09 pm
I agree a original wheel off a GT won't fit in the spare wheel hole but a space saver should no problems . If anyone has bought a space saver it would be a good idea to see if you can match it up from a tyre shop with another space saver . Or get another space saver from a Aussie car here and get the offset changed if need be . I just don't like the idea driving around with out a spare wheel .  Hey I don't even own a new mustang  :smile01:

Yes I here that a lot now ,RACQ tow truck to a tyre shop to fix a flat tyre , drag your new mustang with the flat tyre up onto the tow truck ,no thanks .  Sorry I just wiped out the front spoiler . By the way don't get a flat after hours or in a small town that can't fit the tyre or if it needs a new tyre that they don't sell . Give me a spare  thanks so I can get home and back into my garage .

Hi Glen,

Yep we got the V8 in the manual, very happy with it, smooth to shift, 3rd and 4th seem quite close, 6th is a great highway gear, at 110 it sits around 1500-1600 revs, acceleration is crisp through all gears, it's a lot of fun, especially when you get into a winding road, very glad we got the manual.

This is it, like Mark we also went the competition orange, but we have added the GT stripe

I actually like it that much, I've ordered new number plates for it "Was Hers" :lmao:

Agree with your comments about shift changing in the manual GT. Not sure about your tacho readings though. My GT manual sits on just under 2000 revs at 110 and approximately 1750 at 100. Speed readings have been calibrated and confirmed via GPS and Hume Hwy radar.

I spoke to another ford dealer today and he said the 2017 V8 doesn't come with the spare or jack  :thud: .  Dealer delivery charges at one dealer was $2,795 the one that told me they come with the spare and jack and $2,295 from the honest dealer that said no spare or jack ,so a $500 saving .

The dealer delivery is the only thing remotely negotiable. Some dealers have increased theirs quite a bit while others still remain around the $2000 mark.

Agree with your comments about shift changing in the manual GT. Not sure about your tacho readings though. My GT manual sits on just under 2000 revs at 110 and approximately 1750 at 100. Speed readings have been calibrated and confirmed via GPS and Hume Hwy radar.

Yeah I must say the tachometer figures were not what I was paying attention too, so your probably right, I was trying to avoid the radar confirmation

I like those stripes

Thanks Mark, I wanted something different to the over the roof stripe, and felt going back to its heritage was a good like, so copied the stripe off my 66 and had them done, if you like them, contact Griff on this forum, he is a member, he can do them and post them to you,

Far out, as long as you are OK.
The same thing nearly happened to us on Sunday afternoon when just one block from home a guy in a AWD ute sporting a towbar starts rolling down his driveway to the curb but doesn't stop!!
I had to take evasive action with the missus and dog onboard not to get the side ripped out of our Mach 1.

I would be absolutely livid if somebody did that to my car!
Hopefully it can be fixed at no cost to you..

Surely he couldn't have seen it, let alone felt it; Got to wonder if he did it deliberately out of spite, or he just didn't care / wasn't insured and drove off.

Thanks Godfrey....it's in good hands though I'd much prefer to have a virgin. My son has his own repair shop & is hoping for a total loss, not looking that way at the moment as there is no structural damage & the parts required are quite inexpensive. A lot of the parts aren't here in Oz at the moment so the wait will keep me in the loan BMW for a while. It will be assessed on Monday by an independent company so fingers crossed. Either way I'll be ordering the exact car again & trade or sell this one if it is repaired.

Probably be using the 2 bucket wash method with a plush mitt, and then use a plush or microfibre drying towel (never use a chamois) to dry it.

I've got a bunch of premium washes & sealants if you want to try out some different ones. Can bring some sample sizes to the meeting next week if you want.

We have the competition orange, was advised only 4.7% of Aussie cars are competition orange, just completed a trip to Bathurst and back, very enjoyable on open and windy roads, handles sweet and although can be stiff on bumpy roads, real lot of fun.

A 12.7 @106 mph is quite good and good off the line .  The v8 5.0 last night was too slow off the line because 108 mph is good for a 12.5 for a street car in street trim but with good traction  . 108 mph can be good for a low 12 sec pass with very good traction and everything perfect . .

I have a question which may have already been answered.  I parked it in the shed on Saturday and when I went to drive it Sunday both windows were down.  I know i left them up.  Is there something I have done to make this happen??  I will check the owners manual tonight as well.

Thanks

It is something to do with a feature that you can double tap the unlock button and hold it down the second time and both windows will come down. So you may have had the key fob in your pocket and put some pressure on the buttons which caused this to happen. It happened once to me.

Most new cars have the windows down/open feature. Usually requires a second tap or, more commonly, holding down the lock/unlock button. Designed so if it's a stinking jog day, you can put all the windows down before getting in to the car - let some heat out, or, if you have kids etc, very handy when you get to a destination. Doesn't matter if they've left their windows down, press and hold after you are out of th car and it will put them all up.

Picked up my new one (well, second hand with 4,000 ks) yesterday. Drove beautifully, but when I started it this morning I got warning codes telling me Hill Assist is not available and ESC Service Reqd. Also notice don't that the climate control quarter on the display screen was blank. Rang Ford - can't get me in for a week. Asked if the car I sat ok to drive and they said "should be". Not real happy with their customer service!

Maybe that's why it was up for sale...a Monday car maybe....all jokes aside, you will be very very happy with your purchase, maybe try another dealer for warranty? I use the Bowdens Snow Job and Snow Cannon to pre soak my car before a wash.

After washing the car, I was shamoising it, opened the boot to do the inside and saw this

Obviously this is an area that seems to catch and hold on to water when washing the car. Just thought I'd share so others can keep an eye on theirs

Good tip. Mine has exactly the same issue - odd though, as you would think as some point that becomes a rust issue. And it is not like they would not have noticed that in testing so maybe it just drains slowly.....

I make a point of drying it with a rag each wash (and I am just a little jealous of the snow cannon).....

If you already have the pressure washer, a good cannon is only about $100.  Most of the time I can't be bothered dragging everything out so just use a $20 hortex one from bunnings that connects to your hose.

When you use the foam how many bottles do you use to cover the Mustang

When you use the foam how many bottles do you use to cover the Mustang

Not much, I use about 100mls of product and the rest of the 1L foam gun bottle is just warm water.

The idea is that foaming soaks into the dirt & grime so it can then be pressure washed off before you physically touch the paint.  The swirls (fine scratches) that you see on most cars are from dragging dirt over the paint while washing/drying.

Hosing off most of the crud first, and then using two buckets (one car wash, other for rinsing your wash mitt clean after each panel) will be good enough for most mustang owners here.  Also a good soft drying towel is certainly worth the $20-30.

This is the hortex sprayer I use for most pre-washes nowadays:
https://www.bunnings.com.au/hortex-450ml-fertiliser-and-insecticide-sprayer_p3368178 (https://www.bunnings.com.au/hortex-450ml-fertiliser-and-insecticide-sprayer_p3368178)

I only really drag out the pressure washer and foam cannon when I'm claying a car and/or polishing it.

It sold for $88,000  :thud: I spoke to the buyer and he saw it and just wanted it he said ,never looked at one or driven one and did know how much they cost new ,but the auctioneer said it was a long waiting time for a new one . More money/ dollars than cents  :lmao:  he did tell me he owned quite a few cars including 2 GTR 35 skylines . That mustang was crazy money . I spoke to the seller also and boy o boy was he happy .

Coming up to 12 months as a daily drive the fuel gauge on my wife's vert has started going from 100km range down to less than 8km on the 3km drive home from work. Then it becomes my problem and I go to fill it up, drops to 5km on the 1km trip to the servo, but only takes 49 litres of petrol. Anybody else have this problem on their new mustang?

Only had mine for 10,000 km's, but cant say I have noticed that problem.

One of the few things about the car that is genuinely underwhelming is the size of the damn fuel tank. Who puts a 55 litre tank on a car with an engine that can drink that tank in 285k's??!?!!?

Wasn't designed for someone with a size 12 shoe obviously...My shoe size is 6 ( usually drive in thongs) & in my manual I get 370-400km ave per tank and that is a mix of weekday Sydney driving (once per week) & weekend touring. I only use BP Ultimate.

Quite a few private ones for $60,000 plus  A few V8 ones for sale from $63,000 with 8,000 to 10,000 Klms or $66,000 with very low Klms .

I've always used 98 since it's introduction...it does cost more (about 5c/litre over 95...that varies) it does give slightly better economy while keeping the system clean, and it can feel more powerful. I started using it my shopping trolley, a 1980 Chrysler Lancer (a dinosaur), don't ask me why, don't even go there, (always used a valve additive as it's pre unleaded), & I noticed a big difference. I guess it's what you can afford, & if you can afford to buy a performance vehicle, fuel cost doesn't enter the equation...

I haven't checked the manual re the size of my tank (GT), but I know I filled it up the other day and it took 57 litres (I had done 600kms and had a range of 31kms to empty - Cental Coast to Bathurst and back). Oh, and that was on 95

I was told they stayed with the 16 gallon tank as standard.

The v8 has a 61 litre tank and the 4 cyl has a 59 litre tank . The turbo 4 takes 95 RON fuel and the v8 takes 98 RON . From my Australian mustang specification book 2015/2016 .

Your book is out of date Glen, our 2016 GT states it can run on 95 RON and is E10 compatible, has a sticker inside the fuel cap / flap, would be interested to know if the later cars are also sporting this sticker as the early ones didn't.

Yes the book is over 6 mths old now . The E -Boost in the book says 95 RON and e10 is 95 as well . Says the 5.0 needs 98 RON . With the 2016 GT running on 95 is a big help but e10 is still crap .

My GT was one of the first shipments - I took delivery on 5 Jan 2016.  To add information to the discussion, the filler cap on mine has a sticker saying it is E10 compatible.  I have only ever use 98 RON, but I don't think there is any issue if you use the standard 92 RON, except some performance loss and engine noise.  I don't like the sound of more engine noise.

Afternoon all,

Been driving my new '16 GT for a few weeks now since picking it up with 1,800kms already. Magnetic manual with xforce cat-back exhaust, 20x10.5 R and 9.5 front wheels and pedders springs which drops it ~1.5".

So far so good, suspension firms it up with the exhaust giving it a good note, while still quite subtle from inside the car due to the muffler.  Engines been broken in after having gone easy for the first 1,000kms and now getting to enjoy.

Looking forward to being part of the forums.

Had my magnetic 2016 EB stick for just over three weeks. Very very pleased with it.  Handles extremely well. Pretty good on fuel and such a stunning looking car. However it's not perfect but its not ment to be. Here's a few things that could do with improvement.

The drive by wire is laggy it's dis engaged, it's not sharp, there's also no real get up and go until around 4k with foot flat to the floor that's a life time I'd rather not wait when trying to overtake however It becomes slightly better when in sport or race mode.

I can't really tell the difference between normal sports and comfort on the steering wheel feedback and although it maybe not be enabled I have no oil pressure gauge but shows low or normal in multi head read out.

The auto wipers while work are bit erm slow. The fog lights really need to be projector or LED but that's just me

The paint work on mine is one of the best I've seen if I'm honest but I did pay the extra to have the 20 year protection inside and out done. The panel gaps are also ok. Compared them against my mates nearly new bt50 and we found more wrong with that.

The sync 3 is good and even better with Android auto but wish it come with the sub in the boot to give the audio in the car more depth. It's about 97% accurate with voice commands and I think its more operator error then system errors. Picks up my accent ok. Although the built sat nav Is a little bit out of date.

THE boot, huge by the way but opening is a bit on the small size just about get a full bag for charf in there if you squash it down and can easily fit 1.8mrt star droppers in with the back seats down. Yeah don't asked just don't.

The EB comes with a spare wheel, loving that over the crappy tyre seal stuff they supply with the GT.

I find myself struggling to find the position of the cruise control on button.  The off side mirror can't angle enough for my wife and her seating position and the rear view has only just enough tilt on it for my driving position and I'm constantly finding myself adjusting back down as it vibrates up

I love the "my key" feature the selectable colours of the dash backlights and logos. Also love the pony projection lights.

The six speed feels smooth and strong and I really like the feel of the gear stick.

The cabin I find is a bit dark but the driving position is well suited to my style and as yet have had little issue with the length of the bonnet or the height of the front lip.

Rear Park pilot is really good as well as the quality of the camera although you have to be mindful of the front swing and not get carried away with watching just the back up camera.

The seats are comfortable and hold you well and the cooled seats is a touch. Electric slide is slow if (although I can't think why) you want to get in the back. There's literally no leg room and if you over 5ft you have to tilt your head to the side. But like I said, I'm not sitting in the back.

Tyre pressure monitoring is a brilliant feature and bit of advice make sure your cold pressure is 38psi NOT what Ford recommend. Anything below that apparently according to my friendly tyre shop Is too low on a pzero and increases tyre wear and reduces fuel economy. The trade off Is of course comfort and early tyre replacement.

The exhaust........yeah Na needs a better note although it sounds ok in the car it's actually audio enhanced

This car has surprised me everyday since I've had it. My current fuel economy is 10.6km to 1Lt. A very poor effort just censored Aing around  0 to 100km was 7.1 did get a 2.4 0 to 50km though lol and pulled 1.1gs under braking and nearly a g going round a right hand bend again all just censored Aing about no really efforts been made just testing the instruments to see if they work.

Build quality. Fits the budget of the car. Find me a car without the hard plastic that's a performance car with the heritage of the Mustang in the same price range

Saftey. Do I look like a I give a shit. People still die in five star rated cars.

I really like this car it drives well it goes well and handles great it's super sexy to look at and it got a whole heap of toys to keep you entertained and a few gimmick you can show off. I can see myself keeping this for some time to come.

Conclusion Needs a bit of refinement my but what a presence it has in the road.

Hope this helps

Just coming up to 20,000ks in my girl. Can't driver her enough - neither can my wife. She is looking at ditching the SUV and getting a black GT vert.

Sure there are a few things we would change (spare tyre issue, cruise control button locations) but in the whole - brilliant!

Figured I'd give a quick update/owners report. I've had my 2016 GT since October. Have done 32,500 kms (it's my daily drive). I've had absolutely no dramas. Everything works perfectly. Mainly highway driving and averaging about 10litres per 100ks (was about 9 before I hadn't the Roush bodykit installed.) still on the original Pirelli tyres (but will be replaced by 35,000ks). Puddle lights still both work. Absolutely love driving this beast.

3 Months, 4000km, and no troubles at all. I added a Varex catback pipe and larger cold air intake, plus remapping and now it's producing about 50 extra hosses.
Not even sure if I will swap over to the new shape next year. I have ordered the new one, but will wait and see.

Have had my shadow black gt coupe since Thursday last week and done 600kms
I have found so far:
- everyone wants to have a look or sit in the car, they love it! (As do I)
- manual transmission a little noisier than I thought it would be
- low down torque and roar is sweet then after about 4500 you can hear the induction and it it just wants to rev!!
- colour changing leds was a surprise
- trim figment not the greatest. Large gaps which I will get looked at at first service.
- also paint defect on lhs guard which dealer pointed out they will fix at first service
- you can really feel the rear tyres slip when you boot it on a 0-100 run but the traction control seems to keep you in a straight line.
- feels like a cockpit, "ground speed" on the speedo is a nice touch
- brakes are good but expexted the rotors to be slotted or cross drilled

I like mine also so far   :thumb: .  A bit more go go would be nice but it depends what your use to .  Mine is an auto and in normal mode drives like a std V8 ,smooth and quite .  Sports mode is good but if you hit it hard and the tyres spin  the traction control hits in  and it falls over     and I don't like that .  Track mode cuts out the traction  control  mode so if you have wheel spin you can drive the car like you should  :burnout: . I won't use sport mode again .  Other wise the car is good .

Glen

I've gained a bit more go, 50 HP to be exact,  by installing an X-Force cat-back pipe, (noise adjustable), bigger cold air intake and some remapping.
The line-lock function has also been reactivated, for the "Hoonville" effect. (works well to warm the tyres if you want to get them sticky for 0-100's. I've managed to dip under 5 sec's.
It is very responsive in Sport mode and as long as you are aware that the Traction Control won't save you're arse, and remember to use disciplined throttle control when driving hard (track). It is the most fun you can have without taking your clothes off.  :burnout:

Slippery when cold hmm strange ,but they are a hi performance tyre so maybe they need some heat in them before traction is best .   Being so wide 275 ,could cause a problem  on a uneven surface

For sure, with normal driving they heat up in a few km's and lose the snotty slippery feeling.
At the appropriate venue, with line-lock activated, it takes about 10-15 seconds to get them truly sticky.

Say what ,done the 400 m yet       hell yes   :burnout:  12.92 at 108.8 mph  :smile01:   . Even tho it was around the times I was hoping for ( 12.8 to -12.9 ) and around 108 mph it was quite slow off the line ,well slower than I was hoping for in the 60  foot time . I blame the gear ratio of 3.15 I think where the option ratio in the USA of a 3.55 would get it up and moving and would help with such a heavy car . We don't get the 3.55 option here in Australia .  The next model jumps up to 480 HP they are saying so that will fix the problem .

Has anyone else put a 2015/17 mustang GT 5.0 down the drag strip yet ? .  I have run mine std except better tyres ,so no traction problems but was still a bit slow off the line being a std auto and crappy 3.15 rear gears .   Mine works out to be about 370 HP at the rear wheels , so not the Aussie 306kw / 310 HP they say , but 325kw  / 435 HP I say  at the flywheel   Like the US version . What times have you run and mph ?

I just had a look at my std exhaust on my s550 mustang v8 and   very very BAD . Coming out of the cats is  a 2 1/4 inch pipe then on the drivers side goes into a bend that's goes down to 2 inches then up to  2 1/4 again for the resonator then 2 1/2 inch for the tail pipes into a very bad blocked power and noise stopping muffler  again . Boy O boy I am surprised these cars go as good as they do   .

So you thinking of doing the same as Sharkierulz did with his Glenn? ... https://www.mustang.org.au/forum/index.php/topic,32106.0/topicseen.html

Glenn does your owners manual give you much information on the Mustangs 6 speed auto. I have scant info on them. What ratios do they have, particularly overdrive. I was wondering how they compare to the FG Falcons ZF six speed auto, which has a very good rating worldwide.

The 3.0 diff ratio in the Australian 2015/2016 Mustang seems to be another Ford mistake. If you have an OD 0.67 ratio like their 4 speed AOD, you really need a 3.5 or higher or the cruise rpm will be rather low or on stall too often. How many rpm are you seeing at 100kpm on cruise?

Gazza 1st 4.17 , 2nd 2.34 , 1.52 ,4th 1.14 ,0.87 ,6th 0.69  rear ratio is 3.15 . Revs at 100 kph is around 1800 I think .  Rear wheels are tall ,275/40x19 = 27.7 inches tall .  In the US they have a 3.55 rear ratio option but not here .  I find mine a bit sluggish off the line at the track but ok on the street .  Another problem is the rims are very heavy so no good for drag racing that's for sure .

Wow that's a big first gear ratio, big gap to second, but it does give a reasonable 12:1 launch ratio.

I think the 3.55 diff would have been a better ratio though.

Does the trans have a lockup convertor ?

I have been considering getting my 2nd 69 painted in a similar blue but I haven't seen it in person yet. You can't tell from a brochure or car magazine as latest photography doesn't show true colour or depth.

I'll try and catch up with you at Willowbank as soon as I can get out there.

I'm a bit immobile at present, waiting government permission to get my car converted to hand controls! Although ten miles from Willowbank, my only means of transport is my mobility scooter ( 5 km range).

This has stalled all my car projects as well. Damn Willowbank crash 26 years ago is coming back to haunt me yet again.

Just checked one of my saved videos of 2013 Mustang sold at Barrett Jackson auctions. It was painted in Deep Impact Blue, which I assumed is the same as the current Mustang. Would look good on my 69 Mustang with some Pearl White Shelby stripes, chrome bumpers and polished mags.

Yep I agree  :thumb:  this colour needs chrome and bright rims ,polished etc .  My old 69 Mach 1 was very close to deep impact blue and I had polished auto drag centre line wheels and a polished rear half roll cage ,looked great .

Rocket has Mickey Thompson ET Street P305/35/19 tyres listed for 10" wide rims that stand 27.4 " high. Would be good for your occasional drag strip excursions.

The 305/35x19 ET street is a very wide tyre and is better on a 10 inch plus rim . Factory rims are 9.5 inches so the 285/35x19  ET street is a much better fit ,but very hard to buy here . The 305 on after market 10.5 or 11 inch rims would be ok but you have to find them ,then buy a matching rim for the front if you want it to look good  and the same as the rears .

Don't think I'd run ET streets on the street, they'd wear out to quick and bloody dangerous in the wet!

No mate nothing wrong with ET street radials ,sure they to wear out quicker than a normal street tyre ,but you would not have them on a daily driver would you . No problems in the wet either . They drive just like a normal street tyre .  Yes different story with ET street tyres ( not radials)  The  285/35x19 are very dear tho .

Fitted a steeda IRS subframe bushing support kit today . This kit is a must if you plant your foot off the line and you get wheel spin and in most cases your mustang might or will get axle hop /axle tramp that can break an axle .  Took me just over 1.5 hours start to finish .  If you want more info look up C J  pony parts ,steeda suspension parts . Stiffens up the rear suspension a little also .

I did a run from Gold Coast to Brisbane today  , about a 60 K run in my s550 v8 auto and checked my fuel consumption . Cruising at 100 kph was 8.3 L /100 and 8.5 L/100 cruising at 110 kph .  I have fitted a K&N air filter element . Not worried what it does around town . Still runs a little rich buts that's factory settings .

I have now fitted 19x9.5 front wheels and 19x10.5 rear ,lowered the car 30mm with King springs low springs ,handles great . Also rear mufflers and an after market air box that sounds great . No problems at all with car except one horse light from side mirror has lost its shape . Fitting the air box has made the car use more fuel tho ,well makes my foot go to the floor more often for that great sound  :burnout:

It's a  Airaid cold air box and sounds great in and out side the car ,makes people look around when you give it a bit . This one has a lid on it ,not like others , they are open and seal up against the hood .  Picked up nearly 20 HP with it and no tune needed they say . Takes about 1 hr to fit . I drilled out a few holes in the grill air intake for some more air also . Not cheap but just for the sound it was worth it . Lowering the car looks great also .

Just had my 15,000 km service today (2017 GT convertible) at just over 5 months running.  Oil change light came up only two days ago at 14,700 km.  Service was a little under advertised cost.  Only problem was rear tyres down to 4mm with fronts still 9 mm.  That is disappointing given I am not an aggressive driver - more a cruiser - and have never lit the rear tyres up!  Certainly won't get more than 25,000 km out of rears.  I may look at replacing with the Pilots I understand are coming on the 2018 model.

I too installed an Airaid CAI and Borla S type axle backs a few months ago and whilst I did not dyno I know the car is smoother to drive, never lacks for power (I tend to highway drive in S+) and it does sound soooo much better.

I have no complaints with the car but I might look at a cruisier suspension set up later this year.  Would look at carbon wheels (which I understand GT350 in the US is meant to have) if I could get them - certainly not in Ford's parts catalogue at the moment.

Cheers

Post by: BRUMBE on January 27, 2018, 01:36:12 pm
Forgot to say that I did not have a tune with the CAI - a straight swap with the (small) OEM air intake.

My average consumption over 15,000 km is 11.1 l / 100 km.  On a longer highway cruise I get down to 8.8 l / 100 km using 98 Caltex (sometimes Shell).

Brumbee, the carbon fibre wheels look to be about $12k US a set.
You have expensive taste.
As for softer ride, I guess you could get a set of US spec GT Springs, as I think all ours have performance pack Springs.

Ah! So that's the price of carbons.  Looks like forged aluminum will be the go after all.

On suspension, have done more research to get the ride I want and it seems Shockworks' coilovers / springs are looking to be what I need.  Doing more research.

Cheers.

My wife’s eco boost daily driver needs new front brake pads at 24,000 km and we are told by the local brake places that ford have none in stock till later in March, might be able to get hold of some in Sydney at a racing brake supplier for $400.  Has anyone else come across this problem? Current plan is to park the car up for a week and send the pads to qld so they can make a template from existing brakes for aftermarket sale.

Mine is still going quite well . Took it back to willow bank drags on Saturday ,30 deg  hot day tho . Best time was a 12.5 and 114 mph ,most likely needs extractors ,hi flo cats and a good exhaust to help it . Slow in 60 foot with stock auto and 3.1 gears ,only 2.0 sixty foot times . Still happy with the car .

Owners of S550 mustangs be careful if you still have Pirelli tyres on . Mine has and they have done 8,000 klms and  and still at 60% tread , but are very slippery in wet and dry . I spun mine out the other day going up a hill at 40 kph and when  it went back a gear it  spun the tyres and put me into a spin . Bad tyres and a good LSD diff and you will loose it . Just a warning people be careful .

Starting to notice the tyres are losing some of the grip they had when newer.
Planted it in second the other day and it squirmed around before gripping.
Used to hookup and go. Bit slippy now there is a little bit of rain too.
Might try taking some air out and drop pressure back to 34psi and see what it’s like.
Have been running 39.

I have been surprised by the lack of grip too, even when new.  Not what I expected from P Zeros.  They are a bit better when they have warmed up.  Maybe that's why Ford added line lock in the US, so you could warm up the tyres before your daily drive.  Traction control is very modest compared with other cars I've owned as well.

Just over 22,000 km in 9 months on my Pirellis. Down to 4 mm front and 3mm at rear with slippage becoming more noticeable.  Have ordered Michelin Pilot Sport 4S which I hope will be available around end May so anticipate tyre changeover in June at about 26,000 km.

Have now fitted Steeda progressive springs.  Wanted to do that change ahead of new tyres so I can judge the new tyre performance.

Mechanic said rear camber was 2 degrees (that is, top of tyre tipping in). I can't notice it.  I will run about 4,500 between installation of the springs and new tyres (booked for late May) so the mechanic will have some running to perhaps judge consequence of camber change.  Thinking of putting in camber plates at rear but don't want to keep messing with the car.  However, new tyres are expensive so want to get them right to have longest possible life.

Had the Michelin Pilot Sports 4S tyres put on the car yesterday.  Fishtailed out of the tyre dealership - they were a bit waxy!!

They look better on the lowered car and impressed how they protrood out past the wheel rim to protect the wheel.

Still have the camber issue though.  Has anyone used a camber kit (2 -3 degrees) on rear of GT convertible?
