Mustang Motorsport in Melbourne sell both the Roush and JBA axle back at $800, I was quoted under $1000 for supply and install, as I live in Sydney this wasn't an option, so Mustang Motorsport sent the axle back exhaust to a Ford dealer I nominated for install, will have the supply and install for around $1000 with local warranty, so you don't need to order out of the USA.

http://www.mustangmotorsport.com.au/parts/mustang.html

Shop around guys, I love dealers who believe they are hard done by due to average punters importing stuff themselves under the $1000 threshold, most of the dealers would buy at wholesale prices anyway and recover GST when they sell the goods

There are better deals out there, and Mustang Motorsport is very willing to help, I was advised they were setting up an agent in Brisbane and also looking to set up an agent here in Sydney, bring it on I say.

Big Al Mustang will also fit Exhaust systems to the new mustangs.

We supply Mustang Motorsport actually.

What you don't seem to grasp is GST registered businesses need to pay GST on all domestic sales, so yeah I can claim back GST on what I buy, but that still makes me 10% more expensive than personal imports.

Have a watch of this video, and this will explain why its better to buy through a legitimate importer.  If you want to save some $ by importing keep in mind buying overseas, you have no consumer protection, usually no insurance, and warranty returns becomes hard/expensive to deal with.

Hi MikeG

I understand your position but what would you do in this situation?:

A few years ago I needed a pair of struts for my wife's Astra. I found a pair on line from   from a UK Vauxhall dealer for $220 delivered to my door. Ordered on a Sunday, arrived on Thursday. The local shop in Canberra quoted me a price of $299 . . .  each!!!!! plus delivery from Sydney. The struts were a brand name Japanese product, shipped to the UK dealer then flown to Oz from floor stock. Even if duty and GST where added, it would have still been cheaper to bye from OS.

There are just too many instances where we, the Australian consumer is screwed . . . Often by the middle man's middle man's middle man.

If I can get a fair price for a locally supplied product, I will always go local but all too often, I feel like I am being gouged.

As a canberra local I can appreciate the "canberra prices" problem...

Point is, comparing an $800 exhaust with a Borla exhaust is not a fair comparison.  This would be like comparing an aftermarket Lamborghini exhaust made by DTS who make OEM Ferrari exhausts and say it is a ripoff because you can get a Taiwanese made iPE exhaust for slightly less which are low quality untested systems.  If you compare the prices of the mustang exhausts in America you'll see that Borla commands a better price for a higher quality item.  This is not a retailer charging unfair prices, it's just I have limits to the quality I will consider dealing with...

Unfortunately Australian dealers don't have the option of avoiding GST, so we will always be more expensive than buying through foreign suppliers.

True, sadly.

Another upside of shopping local is you have someone local who stands behind the product, who can give you advice based on local laws and conditions, someone who you can go to if there are problems, and god forbid, someone you can take to court of things end up that way.

With purchasing from overseas, you either loose all those protections, or they can be far more difficult and or far more expensive to pursue.

Now, as for the resonator deletion - it certainly delivers on sound volume. If you have watched the CJ Pony parts video on the vanilla deletion (ie, NOT the one where the Borla has already been fitted) - the sound isn't impressive. Well, in fact the sound it every bit as loud as I would want it to be. At least 50% louder than stock to my ears.

It sounds to have a deeper note, and, here is the bit I am not overjoyed with, does have a metallic sound under some conditions - the exhaust guy said the noise I am referring to is 'raspy' and is quite normal. At cruise there is no droning, and it has a wonderful angry rumble on start up.

Overall, for the $360 I spent, I am very pleased with it so far.

All that said, Mrs K still isn't convinced it sounds like a proper V8!

We just had the Roush axle back supplied by mustang Motorsport and installed by Clancy Ford, what a huge difference, nice throaty rumble, quiet on idle, quiet at 60,80 & 100kph, under acceleration very nice exhaust note, no raspy noise and no drone, highly recommend it.

My local dealer on the central coast warned me of warranty voidance if i modify my exhaust system.
I was think about a roush axle back system or something from Best Exhaust.
What to do?
I really want a bit more noise.

My dealer advised me that the warranty might be voided on the exhaust, not the whole car, if an after market system was installed.

Thank you Salthorse.
My dealer was rather annoyed that I kept questioning re: aftermarket modifications.
He pointed out that in the event of an engine issue, there could be a problem with the warranty??!!
He mentioned that Ford will bring in their own system in approx 6 weeks.
However it will be the complete exhaust system, front to back; therefore probably rather expensive.

My dealer told me back in March that warranty is not voided if sensors are not interfered with..so any catback system passes. I have a Magnaflow Catback & very happy.

I love the sound of the Roush quad tip axle back. Sound clip at the end of the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8-PSdKcVhg

Doesnt the quad tip require replacement of the rear valance as well? Adds another $250 to the $1000 system, then there's installation. I'm thinking that, if the valance has to be replaced it will bring the total cost close to $2k

I have been toying with the idea of a 'stage two' upgrade with 3inch exhaust, air intake and a performance tune. (I will look for a thread on upgrades.)

Called my dealer's warranty guy to see what the situation might be.

He said - letter of the law - any chances void all warranty. However, in practice, if it is an air intake or exhaust, they would only exclude those parts for warranty purposes. IF the software is messed with, it voids EVERYTHING.

He did say Ford AU was still working through providing genuine performance upgrades, but that was a while away. He also said there was a mob in Melbourne that was supplying genuine Ford performance bits from the USA and he wasnt aware how that may effect warranty "but be careful, do your research"

I had a look last night and worked out that the quad tip cat back with the rear valance works out at $2,200 AU delivered. CJ Pony parts currently have a sale on Roush stainless steel axle back for $550US but not quad tip

I quite like the look and sound of the quad tip but that is another $1,000 approx on top of the dual tip. Very tempted though.

Someone please correct me if I make wrong, but isn't Roush licences by Ford to supply aftermarket equipment including exhausts, super chargers etc? I could understand if you were getting a complete exhaust system put on from Bobbys Backyard mechanicals, but we are talking about an axle back system - 1 simple cut to the exhaust, no welding, etc. I reckon Ford would have some issues denying an electrical warranty claim on the basis of that. I had to drill two small holes in my balance in order to fit my number plates (and get rid of the big plastic thing). Does that mean I've modified it? Don't think any court would deny my claim.

Either way, I'm more than happy to buy a Ford licensed product and have it installed by a qualified exhaust specialist.

I live on the Central Coast. ELN Ford at Tuggerah are useless, have never had good service from them. Central Coast Ford at Gosford are better, though I have heard from a guy I know who works there's that they use cheap oil and other lubricants in order to save money. Perhaps the one you are dealing with just want you to spend your dollar with them.

Maybe try fitting CC inserts, that way you don't have to cut n shut any pipe work.

boss69Hogg do you need to change the rear valance for dual quad tip?? I was under the impression it needed to be changed out for a Roush one. would like to know how you go as I want to do the same.

Roush make both dual and quad systems. You only have to change the rear valance for the quad.

Yep, what mwizz said - no change for the dual tip, just the quad

Dave, no issue with warranty on axle back, I checked with two ford dealers and both told me warranty is void if you do the full header and exhaust system, I wanted the roush cold air induction, but again both told me warranty void on motor if roush cold air induction was fitted, now the curly point is Ford was recommending me to roush fitment centres, but I have since been told Ford AU are about to launch a series of factory ford aftermarket bolt on's, which they want to sell, so perhaps trying to steer people away from roush.

The twin system roush on our car sounds awesome, deep throaty rumble, no raspiness at all, yet subtle if your not on the gas, really good system.
