Generator to Alternator Conversion - PowerGen
« on: September 15, 2021, 03:49:02 pm »
Hi All
Looking for a point in the right direction...
I have a July 64 - F Code
I have recently changed over from the factory Generator to a new Powermaster - Powergen Alternator

Nice and easy to swap out as it bolts directly into the standard generator housing bracket
Its a one wire system and with the engine running it is showing 15.1 Volts coming out of the alternator, so I know that's working okay
The problem is when I connect the charge wire to the battery terminal (+) There is a sound (maybe behind the dash)
that is making a chirping sound - a little bit like arming the alarm - but it doesn't stop.
All the regulator is still hooked up - not sure if its okay to disconnect it or not
Has anyone out there installed one of these one wire alternators before ? and any pointers would be appreciated
Thanks
Mark
