HELP PLEASE !!

I havent driven the mustang in over 3 weeks, so I thought I'd take it out for a bit.
Low and behold, 5 minutes into the trip and the shifter comes lose ( really lose ).
I got it home, but only just.

Ive got a 5speed T5 and my Hurst shifter keeps coming lose. Ive tried changing the bolts ( using allen key high grade atm ) and Im using loctite.

Any suggestions to stop them from rattling lose?

Is there plenty of room under the boot where the bolts are, could you put a longer bolt in and a locking nut on the back?

Have tried that and it continues to come lose.

Must be some kind of clash in there then if even the locking nut comes undone. Was it a nylock nut that you used?

I removed a T5 shifter yesterday off a 97 EL. Still had the original bolts in place, no locking nut on the back and they were tight as hell.  Maybe the bolts you are using are the problem, try a lower grade bolt? Or even some standard Falcon ones?

I can add a photo of the standard Falcon gear if you are not familiar with them if you like.

Removed radiator to repair a small leak from the auto cooling inlet, replaced inner and outer tie rods, idler arm and some new sway bar end links.
Cheers

Unsure of exactly what set up it is but my brothers (panel beater and spray painter) always went with a lock nut in difficult situations. Tighten one nut and then slip another nut straight nut behind the first nut. Hope this helps.

Might give that a go ( the lower grade bolt ).
Thanks Ash.

That would be ideal and I reckon it would work but not sure if I have the room to do that. I'll look at that option the next time I have to pull the boot cover off the shifter.
Thanks Paul.

Cleaned up the engine bay a bit more today by painting a couple of more brackets black and replaced the radiator overflow hose with a new black one.

Wasn't today but during the week the wife said the brake pedal went to the floor on the 66. Went to swap out to a new M/C and I don't think the brake lines had been touched in decades. My spanner set was not going to do anything but round it over. Luckily 10 minutes before I had just been up the steet dropping my kids off to school and I saw a Snap On truck at the local smash repairs. Shot up to him, $40.90 later, the most I have ever paid for a single small spanner, I walked out with a flare nut spanner that did the job in seconds and caused no damage. Man, am I glad the Snap On guy was in town as there was no way that job was getting done with out damaging something and waiting a week or more for a new part to turn up. The brakes work great now, even for manual 6cyl drums  :thumb:

New set of KYB Gas-Adjust shocks for the rear of my 65FB.  Definite improvement in helping fix the tyre rubbing on my 15x7 Cragars, but still a little bit of rubbing on severe bumps.  Slight rolling of guards may be next to finally fix the prob.

Also tested out the fuel guage - currently shows only just over half when it is fully filled. Earthing the gauge showed it go way past full, so I believe that a new sender unit is in order.  That'll be in the next couple of months.

Jack, nothing, zero , zilch
Missus arrived back this afternoon from a 4 day trip to outlaws place up at Coffs, I was looking very busy doing garden maintenance and all other mundane tasks around the house that I had been putting off all week because every other day she was away I was driving the Mustang and loving it!!
