She's certainly looking the part now Rod! HUGE difference with the wheels and new exhaust!  :thumb: I bet she sounds a whole lot bet with new pipes too! We're almost there! Just try to keep that smile from Ron's dial!!!  :smile01:

blutey, Sooo Glad to see those wheels replaced. :thumb:

Ron had a smile about a mile wide on his face when he arrived back with the car from Dave Bills Exhaust Shop. He said it is loud inside - just the way he likes it . :smile01:

well done boys...............I went past Billsy's place tonight about 7.00 in my Mustang and his 65 was alongside his building... :thumb:

Dale, Dave works late a lot. Poor bugger!
He has done a superb job on the restoration of his 65 Fastback :thumb:

That just looks so good. I bet Ron is stoked.

Hi Mark, Stoked is an understatement. Ron`s mood improved everyday last week. He is walking on air at the moment. :smile01:

Re: Time for an update - Recap - Ron`s 71 Mach 1 Restoration

Hi guys, Just wanted to summarise the Restoration for 2 reasons. Firstly to remind us of the Timeline, and secondly so that i can try and workout this bleeding new photobucket site :kickass:
Changes everywhere on the net at the moment, starting with Windows 8 , photobucket  Internet Explorer  etc, etc

Ron pulled his car apart during the Christmas Holidays. When we started back at work on the 15th Jan it looked like this -

The car went to the sandblaster and then we discovered part of the floor needed replacing -

Next the quarter panels needed straightening -

After the car was sprayed in primer it was put onto the hoist to remove the Rotisserie and refit the diff and suspension so that it could be put back on its wheels -

About this time we decided to paint our Ex Mine Nissan Patrol in Winter Blue to match the Mach 1 -

Ron`s Mach 1 was finally painted on the 1st March -

Oh Shyte - Now Photobucket has frozen up on me. More next post.

Windows 8 - Download  "Classic start Menu", that will give you your start button back

photobucket  - Change to Imageshack

Internet Explorer  - Change to Firefox

scedd, Thanks mate - I just might make those changes, however I have been messing around with the new photobucket and managed to edit a couple of settings. Lets see how it goes this time -

Part 2

Rons Mach 1 was painted on the 1st March -

By the 5th March front and rear screens were fitted as well as the drivetrain -

The engine was started for the first time on the 12th March -

Luke and Brad cut and polished the car on the 13th March -

Stripes and Rear Spoiler were then fitted -

Then on the 15th March the Exhaust was fitted and Ron was able to drive the car back to the workshop -

Only a few small jobs left to finish now. So effectively we can call it finished, which means that this week we can concentrate on preparing the 2 69 Mach1`s

Oh.. Photobuckets new site sucks big time. EDIT - May have spoken too soon. We will see.

Thanks Sally, Hope you are getting closer to having your car finished.

It has been a bit of a saga painting the matt black on the bonnet of the two 69Mach 1`s. The all new whizz bang paint formula from our normal supplier was hopeless. Luke tried painting them twice without success before calling in the paint rep. Even he could not lay down a nice even coat of paint. It was coming out blotchy and looked disgraceful. Not a problem we need at the moment!
Finally gave up on that suppliers product and tried a recommended Spies Hecker product. What a difference! Problem solved -

Jeremy is due to pick up the enclosed car trailer this afternoon. Both Nissan Patrols are now ready for the trip so hopefully the boys can all get in a bit of rest before leaving on Monday.
Also happy to report that Luke is coming to Perth with us - as long as we can get a room for him at this late stage.

The enclosed car trailer is back -

The front is now angled so should slice through the air a bit easier than a parachute. They also strengthened the chassis, fitted an aluminium checker plate  floor, fitted electric brakes, springs to the tailgate which now make it a one man job to lower and raise the tailgate and they also fitted a fold up jockey wheel.  We are very happy with the work -

Ron`s Mach 1 has had the airconditioning fitted and gassed up. We still have a lot of little jobs to finish off on all three cars, but no major concerns other than this new photobucket. Had taken more photos but having trouble uploading them.
Need to come to terms with it and only a few days left to work it out.

Hi Rod just checking out that pic of the trailer all it needs is a mattress and you can have a snooze on the way, plenty of room for all. Lol especially if you have had a few beers along the way

Hi Sally, We put the Mach1 into the enclosed car trailer this morning to see how it fits.
There is only about 15" clearance on each side so you have to be very careful getting out of the car. There is a work bench at the front of the trailer which means lengthwise the car fitted with only about 4" clearance at the back.

Just happened to poke my head out of the office door and saw welding flashes coming out of the trailer so must be some alterations happening.

Brad, Fiona, Jeremy and Luke are all leaving with the SA crew early Monday morning, while Monique, Michelle and myself will fly over on Wednesday at lunchtime.

There is going to be a lot of Detailing and Polishing to do when we arrive in Perth so we will be very busy up till the judging. Then we can all relax and enjoy a few beers - although i have been told already - go easy on the booze. Bugger!

We did think about Winter Blue for the car trailer, but the boys told me it would look gay  Maybe CandyApple Red when we return from Perth.

Hi Mattstang, Yes... I will put regular updates on this Thread about happenings at the Nationals.

Brad and Fiona will have a camera to take photos on the trip from Adelaide to Perth and should provide updates of the trip on Monday and Tuesday night, then i will meet the SA crew when they arrive at the accommodations and get busy with my camera for the duration of the event.

Thanks for the well wishes. :thumb:

As soon as I have a few hours...Im going to read this thread from beginning to end. J and myself were talking about it in Adelaide and I told him that I opened every page on my laptop so I could read it on the plane on the way to Oz.

As soon as this Eleanor is bolted back together...it has my undivided attention.

Matt

Hi Matt, Hope you enjoy the read. :thumb:

Rocket.

Well, I finally made page 31

Awesome read guys and some fantastic builds aswell.

You should change it from time for an update to

"The book of all things ford and mustang and totally cool stuff"

Thanks girls and guys.  :event:

I do hope that people driving behind the trailer do not take offence to it. Could get some bottles thrown at the trailer by crapadore drivers.

Matt, Thanks for taking the time to read through the Thread. Glad you enjoyed it.

We are all at work this morning. Instead of spanners, everybody is wielding cleaning cloths. The undercarriages of the cars are absolutely dust free. We learnt from last year it is much, much easier to clean them before we leave - hopefully it will make a bit less work at the other end. Although it is still possible that red dust could get everywhere driving across the Nullarbor. We will see.

After we have cleaned and waxed all three cars they will be loaded onto the car trailers, then they are out of here ready for an early start on Monday morning..  The boys should be
able to get some rest before the trip.

Will take photos of todays happenings and post them later.
