Today was one of those days when things just fall into place.

The man from Complete Windscreens arrived early to fit front and rear screens -

When he was finished it was time to fit the engine -

It fell into position quite easily. They chose to fit the engine without the transmission fitted, reason being we did not want to scratch any paint in the engine bay. After the engine mounts were tightened the car went up on the hoist where the ring gear, torque convertor, transmission ,tailshaft and starter motor all went together nicely. The transmission hoist made light work of it.

Luke painted the bonnet blackouts and also the scoops -

While Brad B worked at the back of the car -

Then Ron got stuck into fitting the hang on items to the engine -

Tomorrow Jeremy will begin to refit the dash. This is where things could get interesting. At the moment we are well ahead of schedule. It seems many hands make light work, but then again a lot of items were already cleaned and repaired to be ready for this stage.

Hi Mark and Sally, Thanks.

I am sure that getting the dash itself back in will be pretty easy - we just do not like fiddling around with the electrics.

It was a busy week....and bloody Hot, but the boys made lots of progress.

Back of the car is complete other than the rear spoiler. We will polish the car before fitting the spoiler -

The bonnet blackouts are finished -

Door glass, handles, mirrors and chrome mouldings have been fitted -

The engine bay is steaming along -

Here is Ron`s parts table -

Dash has not been fitted yet. I wrote that Jeremy was going to fit it on Wednesday, but he had to  make a lightening trip to Melbourne to collect this from the auctions and bring it home -

Great work guys and I like the new addition

Hi Mark, It has been extremely hot work for the guys in the car factory, but they are up to the task. They are quite relaxed about having the car finished in time.

The new addition needs a full restoration so will take a while. looking forward to trying out a RHD Mustang.

Amazing stuff guys  :thumb:
Love the week by week updates.

Hi Michael, The last set of photos were taken on Friday morning. I think the guys worked on Saturday as well so should be further advanced by now.
Was great to see you worked out the timing issue on your car :thumb:

:agree:

Hi Dale, Congrats on your Wedding Anniversary :smile01:

Geez you guys make it look so simple, they look fantastic  :thumb:

Hi 66 Stang, Years of experience makes all the difference. While Luke and Bradb were working on the body and paint, Ron and BradF spent many hours preparing the parts in order to reassemble the car quickly.

Hey Rocket & co.
Do you guys ever sleep?

Keep up the good work and keep the updates flowing
Cheers
Matt

Hi Mattstang, There will be plenty of time to sleep after the Nationals.

Looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow and checking on their progress.
Thanks.

The White Nissan Patrol

We had planned to use the Blue Nissan Patrol to tow the Blue Mach1 to Perth and Jeremy was going to tow the Red Mach 1 behind his Diesel Turbo Territory. However upon checking the weight of the enclosed car trailer and adding the weight of the Mach1 the total weight exceeded the towing capacity of the Territory. Bugger! What to do?

One answer was to use the Blue Patrol to tow the enclosed car trailer, but Jeremy said fark that - we did not spend all that time painting the ex mine Patrol Blue for nothing! So after much consideration, we decided to search for another Patrol that we could possibly make a few dollars on after we are finished with it.

Luck was with us. At the Victorian Government Auctions last week we noticed a Patrol that was just a bit untidy. Has a few scratches around the body and a few  broken trim pieces. After a few days in the workshop when we return from Perth it will look like a new one. We bought it at a good price which should enable us to make a few dollars.

The enclosed car trailer is currently at a Trailer workshop where it is having a new floor fitted, the top cut down at the front and electric brakes being installed. It then has to be complied for registration which they will do for us.

Problem Solved!

Hi Angelo, I know what you mean. Our women have a way of bringing us down to earth - With a thud! :thud:

Wiring is not an easy job. Bet you are glad that job is done.

You are welcome to call in anytime, in fact i will be taking my Grande to work tomorrow and maybe Friday. Jeremy`s Blue Mach will be there Thursday too.  :burnout:

Re: Time for an update - Ron`s Mach 1 Running Sweet!
« Reply #723 on: March 12, 2013, 07:59:24 pm »
Reassembly of Ron`s car is progressing very well

The Dash was fitted over the weekend while Ron continued putting the engine bay back together -

Exhaust was fitted today as well.

The Auto Electrician called in late this afternoon to check over the electrics. Only problem he found was a broken light bulb.

Then they started the engine which was fully rebuilt by Ron. Auto Electrician checked the charging system and found it was slightly overcharging, so they fitted a new regulator.

The engine is running sweet -

If anybody in SA wants an engine rebuilt, call in and see Ron because he does an excellent job on them. He has already rebuilt a 351 for the Grande which will be fitted after we return from Perth.

The front of the car has also been put together -

Luke is busy painting the satin blackouts on the bonnets of the Blue and Red Mach 1`s -

So it is mostly smooth sailing at the moment. Only problem is the local Air Cond Repair people have let us down with the Air Cond Compressor. Told us they would have one ready this week, but now deny they said they would. WTF? So we are chasing a good original Air Cond Compressor. Anybody have an idea of where to source one?

Today we started her up! Fired up as soon as fuel hit the carby! Nice work Ron, she sounds awesome!!

Poor quality video as it was taken by a still camera and a bit of workshop banter but share in the magic moment here:

Ron's '71 Mach 1, first start after full re-build!

It ain't work if you love doing it!
