Hey Rod.  Off topic but you guys have done a lot of work on the car.  Last Sunday, I think, some B@&^%$# tried to lever the mustang emblem of my fuel cap and succeeded in breaking the head off it.  Meant to cry on your shoulder about it today .

LOOKING GOOD BOYS...........Good luck to Ron!

Hi Dale, Today is the first day in a while that i have seen Ron smiling. The floors and panel work seemed to be taking a long time, but quality panel work does take time. I think Ron along with the rest of us was worried that we may not get the car finished in time for the Nationals.
When the car rolled out of the booth at lunchtime a kind of realization came upon everyone that the car is almost ready for paint now and yes - we can have it finished in time.

That Patrol is one great looking car

Hi Mark, We are thrilled to bits with the Patrol.

Couple of things to do yet. Think it is going to Motor Registration tomorrow, then a wheel alignment followed by glass tint next week. If the weather cools down a bit before we leave i will give it the Flex treatment.

Hi Jack, That would piss you off no end! :kickass:

Those fuel caps are certainly a drawcard. I was amazed at the Nationals to see how many people were taking close up  photos of the fuel caps. Unfortunately in your case it has drawn the attention of scumbags. Is it a pop open type cap? I will speak with Jeremy and see if we can source another for you.

It is because of these sort of things that i do not want to take any of my cars anywhere in the public arena. Cannot even bring myself to take a car to the wheel aligners or tyre shop anymore for fear of having them come back damaged :thud:

Are you aware of what people will say when they have just sent their cars to paint jail for a year or 2 and then they see what has been done to the Patrol in such a short time? :lmao:
Great work and looks real good (for a Datsun)!!  :thumb:

Hi scedd 1, Thanks for the compliments. Just reviewed the Thread and found we started to pull the Datto ( Patrol ) apart on the 21st January. So exactly one month to the day. Very happy about that - the boys worked their butts off to get her done.
We took a big chance. The important cars to prepare for the Nationals are Ron`s Mach 1 and the Blue and Red 69 Machs. We are now a bit behind schedule, but are growing confident that we will have all three cars ready.

Yesterday we took Ron`s Mach 1 off the Rotisserie and put it up on the hoist -

Checked out the floor from underneath -

Ron and Brad wasted no time in fitting the diff and then started to put the front end together -

Meanwhile Luke And Brad B are busy blocking back the bolt on panels to ensure a ripple free finish-

Because Luke has already painted the door jambs and engine bay, we will fit the panels back on the car and paint the whole car at once.

The work that Ron and Brad are now doing fitting things together underneath the car will make the reassembly much quicker after the car is painted.

Hey scedd1
check the ground up restore of the 71 mach1 in 2 months.  These guys show how it should be done. (Proof that it can be done in a lot less than a year)  It should make silver if not gold at the nationals. Image Classic Cars learned a lot at Newcastle with two silver trophies on their 69 Mach1 s

Those fuel caps are certainly a drawcard.

If it was only the emblem they were after, it's probably some homie that wants to wear it as a belt buckle or necklace.

Hi Jack, They rolled the car into the spray booth this afternoon and taped it up ready for paint. The boys are getting an early start in the morning and should have the car painted by the time i start at 9 tomorrow.

There have been a couple of minor setbacks this week.  Ron found that the reconditioned steering box had grit in it from the sandblasting, even after he had taped up the lines then wrapped cloth around the fittings and also told the 2 blokes at the sandblasters to be very careful to not go near the steering box with the blasting. So he had to take the steering box back to recar and have them clean it up thoroughly.
Second problem was the new bonnet hinges. After fitting the new hinges and putting the bonnet on the car, when putting the bonnet down the hinges are making the bonnet do a left hand turn. Hope to sort that out next week.

On the positive side, the brakes are back on the car with new lines and a lot of items have been refitted underneath.

Only 3 weeks left now to get it finished. Lots of preparation work has been done to have things ready to fit after the painting is finished. Time will be tight but i am sure the boys are up to the task.

Will post some photos after the car comes out of the booth tomorrow.

Ron`s Mach 1 has been painted

The car is presently in the spray booth on the bake cycle. Luke will leave it in there for a bit longer than normal because he needs to have the paint dry asap. He hopes to tape it up for the blackouts and paint them this afternoon.

Some pics -

The preparation seemed to take an awful long time, but i am happy to see it was worth it. The car is gunbarrel straight and the paint is flawless. BradB and Luke - Thanks guys. you did good! :thumb:

Hi Sally, Ron and Brad are already hard at it fitting Wiring looms etc. Luke decided to wait until monday before doing the blackouts because he was worried the masking tape could pull the paint off if it has not cured for at least a couple of days.

Will be very interested in your results with the Ceriglass kit. If you need a buffing machine to do it just sing out.

The Pressure is on

With only 2 weeks and 6 days left before this car is headed to Perth for the Nationals, it must be reassembled in record time.

Yesterday the carpet and headlining were fitted

Luke taped up and painted the blackouts on the body -

He also painted the bootlid -

and prepared the bonnet for blackouts -

Jeremy has been working on the dash. The bezels which surround the switches were not looking good with the chrome around the edges peeling. We cannot buy new bezels at short notice so he taped them up and painted them with chrome paint -

The car is now on the hoist again so that Ron and Brad can fit the engine, gearbox and tailshaft today.

Tomorrow the window man will be here to fit the front and rear screens.

In other happenings, we bought another project. It is a 73 Q Code Mach 1. This car has been in SA for quite a few years and is RHD. Bonus for us is that it is already registered.
Put some petrol and a good battery in it yesterday, turned the key and it started straight away. Needs a full resto -

The Patrol is almost ready. Had glass tint fitted on the weekend. It is going to Nissan for a service and Tune today, then it will receive an Autopian Polish over the next few days.

More photos of progress -
