Hi Guys, well... The Wannabego sounds good! :smile01:

It won`t be painted till after we return from Perth. What we need to do first is find a way to reduce the weight in it. Jeremy drove his Diesel Turbo Territory to Geelong and achieved economy of 8.5 Litres per 100klm - pretty bloody good in my book!

However, on the return trip with the trailer on the back it used 19.5 Litres per 100klm! Ouch!!! Remember the trailer was empty, so how much will it use with a car in it? Might be better towing it with the Patrol.
We had a bit of a look today and found the floor is particle board on top of tongue and groove timber and still something else under that. We have access to aluminium at trade Prices so the first job is to fit a checker plate floor, then we will look at other ways to reduce the weight a bit.

The Colour to paint it? Hmmm... One of my sons had an XD with a trick paint job years ago. It was Brandy Wine with a thick diagonal Silver stripe across the back of it.  Could do something similar, but that is up to Jeremy.

Mentioned earlier that we had a new panel beater start this week. To save confusion we will call him Brad B or maybe B2 - but would need some blue and white striped overalls :smile01:

To say we are impressed with Brad B would be an understatement. Check out this superb work he has done on replacing the floor in Ron`s Mach1 -

Brad B is no stranger to Mustangs. Here is his very nice 65 coupe -

He is also a MOCA SA Member.

Welcome aboard Brad B. :thumb:

When you move to NSW, you can just throw everything in the back of that trailer and head on over, we've got plenty of work for you over here....!

Bet the SA guys didnt realise the trailer was really an excuse to get the hell outa SA...

Jeez, some people are greedy, that's what i get out of the Hilux on a good day!!

By the look of the trailer photos, the first thing you need to do is get some better mudflaps on the tow vehicle.

My guess is with the big front on your new trailer the territory is working too hard. Maybe the Patrol should tow the enclosed trailer and the territory tows the open one.

Hi Scedd1, The staining on the front of the trailer is actually worse than it appears in the photo. It was already stained when Jeremy bought it. Looks like a job for me. A scuff and a buff should fix that.

I think you are correct about the front of the trailer creating too much drag. Maybe we will need to modify it to have either a rounded or angled top. Ron is going to check out the brakes to make sure they are not holding it back and will also replace the wheel bearings. Jeremy did mention that when he took his foot off the accelerator it felt like he had a parachute on the back.

Not sure what to expect with economy when towing it loaded. I know when i tow with the Caprice 6 Litre i only get around 17-18 Litres per 100 klm, so maybe with the size and weight of the trailer the figure of 19.5 might be as good as it gets. Hmmm.. The Patrol may well be the better tow vehicle for it.

Might be worth making an "Aerofoil" thingy to go on a roof rack.
Then you could also put a Mack bulldog on the bonnet (that might be overkill)

Oh Shyte! Looking like we have done it again this year. :toetapping:

Reality has dawned on us and we are just one step below panic stations. Yep.... Only 5 weeks before we leave for Perth.

Ron`s 71 mach1 is still a bare shell, but thanks to the superb efforts of panel beater BradB - a very straight shell -

The repairs on the rhs quarter are finished and Brad is now working on the other side -

Anybody who knows panel beating would appreciate how good that work is.

Luke and Ron are very busy cleaning and painting lots of components for the car -

Meanwhile BradF is going gangbusters finishing the Patrol.

Think we will make it - but only just. Might be some weekend work coming up... again.

Had this car come in today for a valuation -

It is a 1949 Ford Pilot. Anybody able to guess at a value?

Hi Rocket

Hmm how long is a piece of string? had a good look at the Pilot and its an older build so really needs a complete reuild to get it upto scratch.....However it is registerred and running so good budget rod for someone to build on.

Value???? $10,000-$15000 :burnout:

Progress on Ron`s mach 1

Body repairs are now finished -

Body is now in high build primer, and while it was in the booth, Luke painted the door jambs and boot area -

Meanwhile, the inside of the bonnet, bootlid and doors have been painted -

Now it is time to fit the diff, suspension and steering back onto the car -

The engine has also been painted -

We are starting to run out of time as there are only about 4 full weeks before we leave for Perth, but the boys are confident that we have everything ready to fit back on the car just as soon as the paint is finished. I am told that the 71 model is a whole lot easier to reassemble than the earlier models. Hope that is correct or we could be in deep shyte... again.

Next Post - Patrol Finished.

Patrol Finished

Here she is -

Brad, Jeremy, Luke and Jack have done a lot of work on this car over the last few weeks and i can only say thanks fellas - you did excellent work.

Jack spent a lot of time sorting out the electrics. There was a lot of wire chasing to do and there were a few broken wires in the loom which made it all the more difficult. Brad and Jack also fitted a CB Radio into the console - neat job. Thanks.
