Hi Dale, I offered Brad the phone no. of the lawnmower man who does my lawns - front and rear for only $30. Brad declined the offer because he is determined to get even with his mower. Think the mower is in for a hard time. :smash:

Hi Jack, Well Brad and fi are not here today..... so you may be correct.

Luke liked the colour of your black quarter panel so much that he made the door black too! -

Here are the pics of the framework. All welded, seam sealer applied and painted your favourite colour -

He still has a bracket to weld on where the trunk drop off meets the rear panel, but wants to wait till he checks the gaps on the bootlid. Trunkdrop off welded to frame rail -

Next job is to grind off the filler where the roof meets the quarter panel, then lift the roof to where it should be. Gaps at join are quite tight -

No fishing tomorrow. Too busy. all hands to be on deck as much as possible till Christmas, so see you tomorrow.

Another car out the door today.

This coupe just required a new door to be fitted up and painted. Very nice car and love the burgundy colour. But it turned into one of those "Gotcha" jobs. Not the owners fault. It was a fixed quote insurance job so we just had to eat an extra couple of days labour. We fitted the door, then Luke painted the door twice because he was not happy with the colour match from our paint supplier. Then the gap between the front guard and the door was excessive which meant we had to realign the front guard to close the gap - no biggie -just time consuming.
Then came time to fit the windows and door lock. Windows went in fine, but try as we did, we just could not get that lock to operate. We have fitted lots of locking mechanisms in the past without issue, but this had us stumped. A full day later, we had no choice but to fit some new components. Came to the conclusion that the levers were not the correct size. But all was well in the end. Door lock now operating and car returned to owner. I think these issues explain why many panel shops do not work on old cars. Such is life in the panel shop. Owner is happy with the job - that is all that matters.

Wonder if the Vic cops will give you a hard time about not having registration labels on the cars. :lmao:

Just checked the weather forecast for Melbourne tomorrow. 14 degrees. Lovely weather! Was extremely hot and humid last year.

Have a great time guys and don`t forget some photos please.

Brad and Luke have both been busy working on Jack`s car this week. Lots of progress.

There was a lot of time spent lining up the door, quarter panel, boot lid etc. Luke paid particular attention to gaps -

He has finished lining up the quarter panel and is beginning to weld it on -

Jack, i know you spoke with Luke through the week about replacing the LHS trunk dropoff, but after Brad cleaned it up we all inspected it and came to the conclusion the existing dropoff does not have  rust. Just needs an easy repair to straighten it. So we recommend you let us repair it -

Briar dropped off the items you mentioned earlier. Will give them to Luke first thing Monday.

In other news this week, Jeremy`s 65 Coupe arrived back having had a Gear Vendors overdrive unit fitted. Jeremy is very impressed with it! The Gear Vendors unit effectively turns his 3 speed C4 Auto into a 6 speed auto. We still need to do a few jobs to finish it off. The Exhaust needs to be relocated because the H pipe is too close to the unit. The Handbrake cable is rubbing slightly on the side of the unit so we will fabricate a new bracket to get that clear. Then we need to mount the control unit inside the cabin - probably to the bottom of the dash.
Here are a few photos of the Gear Vendors unit -

Jeremy only managed enough time to drive it back from the Auto Trans place that fitted the unit, then had to go home to pack. He and Monique are right now in the air on the way to Las Vegas for the SEMA show. Guess dear old dad will have to take it for a nice long drive to check it properly :burnout:

Lots of plug welds ..........no little tack welds...............Much improved panel work......love it
Will accept the advice of people who know more than me and stay with the old panel thanks.
If the unthinkable happens and those numbers are damaged give Dale a call.  He made them.

Hi Mark, It can be a pretty slow process. We hope to have Jack`s car finished within a couple of weeks.

How is your Boss coming along? Have not seen an update for a while.

It's getting there. Hopefully the carby has been rebuilt and returned and that the glass is all in now. I am waiting for the next update but know that Matt is tied up with SEMA so will be out of the picture for at least a week or so.

Hi Jack, Yes.... Lots of Plug Welds. Will be very strong.

I have told Luke to go ahead and repair the trunk drop off.

Dale is a very handy fella! :thumb: We will take extreme care with the stickers.

Mark, Matt is always on the move..... Very energetic. Hopefully he can get stuck into it after SEMA.

Jack, We were talking about upgrading the Alternator on the 69 Grande during the week.

Had kept track of a Thread on the VMF about going to a 3G ( 3rd generation ) unit. The idea is that a 3G will put out more amps at idle speed than the old unit will at high revs.
My amps gauge drops down to about 11.5 at idle and even lower with a/c and lights on.

From that Thread -
66-85 Stang - 60 Amp Alternator, =15Amps @Idle -Peaks at 66Amps
85-93 Stang - 75 Amp Alternator, = 24Amps @Idle - Peaks at 81Amps
95Amp G3 Alternator = 64Amps@Idle - peaks at 122Amps

The Grande has a few mods such as Dakota Digital Dash, Alarm/Central Locking, soon to have Gear Vendors Overdrive, Rack and Pinion Power Steering, Stereo, Light upgrade etc. - So going to need a bigger capacity Alternator in my opinion.

That Thread suggests a 3G unit from PA Performance in the USA, together with a wiring harness to adapt the unit.

Links -
http://www.paperformance.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=46

Wiring upgrade kit -  http://www.paperformance.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=75

The Alternator is USD $169.00
Wiring Kit            USD $ 26.95
Total                    USD$195.95 Plus shipping from USA

Does this sound like a good upgrade?

Check out this Thread on the VMF -
http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/mod-custom-forum/590739-3g-alternator-install-how-wire.html

Also this one
http://forums.vintage-mustang.com/vintage-mustang-forum/594559-best-perfomance-alternator.html

If you think it will work, i will get it ordered.

Thanks.

Bugger - Made a post and it just disappeared. Try again.

More progress on your car today Jack.

Luke finished welding then went on to bodyfiller duties while Brad made himself busy with the sander on the rest of the body. The idea for Brad was to flatten the existing paint and feather any edges using 80grit frecut, ready for primer after Luke finishes the repairs. some photos of todays efforts -
