the scoop you dont like is actually a factory fitted item on the race cars and first 30 cobra's rocket, tend to agree with you on the look though on anything else...

Hi Pinto, Yes that is how he explained it to me. He took offence to a little sign i put on the window for him - trying to shame him out of fitting it :kickass:

The sign read " This car is for gay owner to drive in Mardi Gras Parade" :bolt:   He did not see the funny side of it at all!

Here is another shot of the monstrosity -

Agree with Pinto Pete regarding originality on Cobras. Different strokes etc.... Saw both cars yesterday and to say I was impressed is an understatement.  Yeh missed you again sorry Rod but by the time I finished yacking to the guys I really needed to get home.  I'm sure you understand.  Seems like another car gets an Image Classic Cars paint job .

Rocket,

This is a great post, I always look forward to the updates, have sent an email for some info, if you can assist.

BTW, I think the scoop on the XC spoils the look of it, messes with the tidy lines of those utes.

Pretty sure the scoop was on the Option 97 car. Agree that the non scoop look is better.

There were no 'original' Cobra utes.

Looks like you guys are correct, it is part of the option 97 package.
Here is a photo of the original from Jack`s Link -

Here is a ute without the scoop. Stephen SLR is correct. These utes are built by enthusiasts - not factory original.
Much better in my opinion without the scoop -

So Steve - the owner - has done his homework. As Jack wrote - different strokes for different folks.

Don`t think i am having a crack at Steve. He is a top bloke and a friend. I could not have put that sign on his ute otherwise.
He is also a Mustang man. He bought this GT Coupe from Jeremy a few years back and has that car looking sensational -

Dale, your Hertz is exceptional - no need for any silly signs on that car!

66 Stang, i have replied to your email - hope it helps.

Jack, sorry to have missed you yesterday. Jeremy explained you are still not feeling too good. Yes, it seems we do have another respray coming up!

Even the real deal looks better without the scoop, it must be there for a reason but it looks like Ford got the apprentice to scrounge around the scrap metal bin and knock something up on the day.

Edit: the scoop on the ute does look better than the one on the coupe.

Not every car that comes in requires a full respray. Brett and Fiona Tonkin recently had us do a tidy up on their excellent 65 Coupe which was used in a Wedding last week. Just a few battle scars, clean the crud out of the drip rails and fix the alignment issues where the rear extensions meet the quarter panels which is a common problem on these cars. Some photos taken during the work -

Car is now looking great -

Thanks Rocket for the pictures & comments, really happy with Image Classics Cars & Luke's work  :thumb:

Hope you all enjoy the trip to Melbourne and the Roundup. Any chance of somebody taking plenty of photos and keep us posted while you are gone?

Jack, I hear you called in on Friday to check progress. Well, we are a bit further along now. Luke has test fitted the new quarter panel - fits up well.
In the following photos it is just sitting in position. Luke will now test fit the bootlid and check the window flange alignment before welding the quarter panel on -

Another job on the go at the moment - this coupe had a very bent door courtesy of an elderly woman with bad eye sight. Our task is to fit a new door and paint it.Colour match was a bit of an issue. Owner has no idea what colour was used to paint the car before he bought it. We had our paint supplier colour match the paint using their special equipment, but after painting the door, Luke was not particularly satisfied with the colour match. Turns out this is a specialty of Luke. He got busy with our newly acquired tinting system  and now it matches beautifully. Well done Luke -

We had a Corvette come in this week for a brake job. Lady owner recently paid $1400 to have the brake job done, but having paid the mechanic found the car had worse brakes than when he started the work. She did not want to give the car back to the same mechanic again. No second chances with this lady. She brought the car to us and the boys found the rear calipers were seized, rear pads worn way down and discs in bad need of machining. Waiting for the rebuilt calipers to come back tomorrow, then we will fit it all back together and hand the car back with decent brakes -

Check out the rear suspension configuration on the Corvette!

Interesting configuration, havn't noticed that before. The Mustang fender protector also looks interesting on a Corvette.

having paid the mechanic found the car had worse brakes than when he started the work. She did not want to give the car back to the same mechanic again. No second chances with this lady.

She did the right thing. I had a B/W diff installed in the Torana, a year later it needed to have the shims replaced so I had them replaced. When I enquired what the issue is, the mechanic told me it's normal wear, he replaces them in his ute every 6 months.

9 months or so later they needed replacing again, it also had a leaking seal so I took my business elsewhere and the new mechanic said why don’t you go back there and have them fix it.

My reply, ‘what, and be back there in another 9 months?’

He fixed them with proper shims, it’s been a few years now without an issue.

The colour of that quarter is tempting however I will stay with the original.  Bet there will be more than 30 tack welds holding it on and an annoying squeak missing. Congrats on the colour matching system. The capability of Image Classic goes up another notch.

Sounds like the original mechanic does not know how to set them up properly. You would think he would realise that he is doing something wrong if he has to redo his ute every six months.
Good thing you found a new mechanic!

I am really impressed with the work Luke has done on the frame inside where the quarter panel sits. Hope to get some photos tomorrow before he welds the quarter panel on.

Hi Jack, hope you are feeling a bit better.

I am sure Luke will do a top job welding the quarter panel on. It is great to have a panel man who takes so much pride in his work. It is good to walk into the panel shop and have him eager to explain what he is doing, why and how. He has joy written all over his face as he speaks.

Brad is on the mend after his fight with the lawn mower. Stitches have all been removed and the wounds healing, but he still has some swelling on his foot which is painful for him. Another week and he should be ready to mow the lawns again.
