Sorry I missed you the other day.  Still need to have a yarn with you.
Dont you just love the quality and number of tack welds holding that panel on????? Notwithstanding the rest of the job.  And Suncorp wanted me to give them another try.  :omg:

Ill be watching footy on TV Go the broncoes.

Hi Jack, Yes... I agree, those welds are a bit on the crude side. More like inferior tack welds. Doubt they would have held with even a slight biff.
Brad showed me the join where the quarter panel meets the roof inside the car. That was an OMFG moment.
Don`t worry, we will sort it.

These photos tell the story -

Only missed you by a few minutes the other day.

The Hawks played a great game last night and made the Pies look a bit ordinary. Hope the Broncoes do the job for you.

Rocket.

Saw this car yesterday.  Rod sorry to say your pics dont go anywhere near to displaying the quality of the paint. It is magnificant and the best possible recommendation for the guys in the shed down the back at Image.  Now for the white ute.  :coolpic:

Re: Some inferior Panel Beating
« Reply #397 on: September 20, 2012, 07:21:26 pm »
Angelo, Glad you like it.
We look forward to regular updates and photos as you put her back together. :thumb:

Brad and Luke have been busy removing the rear quarter panel from Jack`s car -

There was what appeared to be a slight kink in the trunk dropoff panel, so Brad busied himself removing all the "tar like" crud from the panel.
Well... that dropoff panel was left an absolute effing mess which was simply filled up and then tarred over. OMFG! -

Hardly the work of a skilled panel beater!
At first we could not work out why there was only a 5mm difference side to side in the length of the car.
Then we found out why -

The bracket which connects the drop off to the rear light panel had been cut, then the rear light panel had been straightened
followed by rewelding the bracket in the new ( incorrect ) position. That was followed by lots of bog and then tar to make it appear reasonably good.
Roughar@e Bast@rds.

Rang Jack to suggest he call in and check it out. Unknown by us at the time, Jack is quite ill, but his lovely wife Briar drove him down to see the car.
He agreed with us that the dropoff panel needs to be replaced with a new one.
To be fair, Jack does not blame the people who recently fitted the new quarter panel for the inferior dropoff panel repair, but why on earth did they not call him and ask to fit a new dropoff panel?

Also, a bit of cutting and welding will be required to add some fresh metal to the framework where it is welded to the roof section. Not much there at the moment -

In other news, the XC ute is starting to look good. The first part of the stripes are on. Headlining is fitted. Carpet went in today, glass i think is tomorrow, followed by refitting the front panels, tailgate and hard lid, finishing the stripes - then out the door finally. Progress -

Hope you get well soon Jack. :therethere:

Rocket.

Thanks Mark, The ute has progressed a lot further.

Not impressed by the scoop that the owner had us fit to the bonnet! In my opinion the factory scoops near the front of these bonnets look superb, so why spoil it with boy racer shyte! Put my two bobs worth about it to the owner to the point he became agitated. Figured i better back off about it - he is a paying customer. What do you think -

Love the look of the rest of it -

Not every car that comes in requires a full respray. Brett and Fiona Tonkin recently had us do a tidy up on their excellent 65 Coupe which was used in a Wedding last week. Just a few battle scars, clean the crud out of the drip rails and fix the alignment issues where the rear extensions meet the quarter panels which is a common problem on these cars. Some photos taken during the work -

Car is now looking great -

The parts for Jack`s car finally arrived and Luke has begun fitting it all together -

We hope to have it ready to fit the new quarter panel later this week.
