THat's what I like to see the wheel on the (right ) side your on to it mate. :(The body looks sweet now Steve. I've almost got the AC sorted, I'll send you the pics in the next week or so, yet to cut and shut the blower, If you send me just the fan from the taken off the blower motor I'll do your's as well. You have to do this to max air flow, as the vanes go backward when you swap it Left to right.

Dreaded Elec issue still lurking...pushed my budget that far that we've stalled on $2000 to redo a whole new wiring.:_....... Cannot stretch the budget any further, its at its absolute limit. Still don't understand why its so much....yet again, I'm no electrician.

well i em an electronic tech (glorofied electrician :+)  and y so much?
cause they charge $100ph and there is few hrs involved. expecialy if intermittent faults.though i only get paid lot less than 1/4 of that. which sucks.

find a private guy that will do it afterhours for extra dosh.
to save money that what i do for job i cant do myself (which thankfully are not many)

though catch 22 is u got to find a good worker that takes pride in his work and not some butcher that just want the dosh. so recomendations and previous work will be good start to determine a good auto electrician.

mate if u were in SA could have given u a hand with electrical. save u bit of money and help me out spend it on mine. mustang wiring is fairly simple from what i can see.

modern cars lot more complex but i seem to find my way around them easily enough.

i should look into this bit more carefully and get a budget wiring replacement. im sure someone has done this allready. ;+

nice work btw.

:i......right now with Steves' permission, am happy to get wiring loom/harness sent half way around Australia if it'll save me some dosh. I have definately shook every last cent out of dat tree.....
So if anyone out there can offer their services for around the $1000 mark, to revamp/reco please u2u me.

Its a full eleanor kit, the only difference is the upper air scoops & brake scoops will be functional. AOI rack, TCP coil overs & 4 link, Willwood 4 spot set up, 390 C6 & 9 inch. Colour I am still tossing up at this stage I am leaning towards a Candy Red & Silver super snake stripes. By Candy red I am talking a special effect 3 layer not Ford Candy Red.

Yes HOK is the go for candys, tossing up between Persimmon or Scarlet over silver. Here is a pic of a sprinter we did in apple red last year, I like it but it is darker than I want.

HOK stuff looks great, the boys at MPA sell it, I went to school with Luke, I've used it on some bikes. Maybe get a  lighter one as you can always put on another coat if you want it darker. I reckon it might be hard to match if you deck it, might have to wet the whole side in perhaps, you wouldn't be able to blend it, it's edge to edge or nothing I'd reckon. There is a 67 in Mustang monthly last year which was like a copper red it was really smart, you may find it on the web site, there was also ona at the Brisbane hot rod show in a red HOK, it to was really hot looking even on a standard body.

Steve another tip to make your A/C easier, when you reverse the A/C, the heat pipes come out in a mirror image almost, but the A/C pipes don't they end up almost hard up against the skirt, I noticed you had remove this on you car, I didn't. I reccomend you alter the lower part of the skirt and push it out into the wheel well a little to make the A/C pipes easier. to access You can weld up all the old A/C heater holes in the fire wall you can't use them. It's too late for this now but it's better to leave the centre section of the firewall insitute as the mount holes for the A/C blower etc don't change, no big deal but it makes for a good referance point when doing the A/C. You can measure this of Bas's car and redrill them now. Are you going to use an XF pedal box cut  and shut with Mustang one like I did, works well!. I use an XB only to get the the hydrulic clutch, but an auto one is the same from XA on.
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on June 19, 2009, 10:47:25 am
I have got a couple of pedal boxes to play with The std Mustang one (manual) XP Falcon (manual) & XF Falcon (Auto) The car will be auto. Do you have a pic you could send me of your pedal box as a reference? Also I have the factory Mustang Booster & an XF one here at the moment & I am not sure which way to go.

The firewall is nearly done. We wont bother making it look pretty until all the a/c, wipers etc have been test fitted. Next will be the dash. We will have a crack at my original dash & see how we go, it is pretty shagged but we can repair it up once its all chopped up.

Also thanks for the link to the 67 in Mustang Monthly. That is one of the horniest cars I have ever seen. I was dirty when I saw it on Ebay & didnt save the pics of it. I had it in my Ebay & it dissapeared not long after the auction ended.

I will get a litre of Brandy Wine & do some spray outs over different basecoats & see how it looks in the flesh.

I used an XB booster due to size, they just fit nicely. Thing is with a Falcon booster bolts straight up to a Falcon pedal box. I just cut the falcon pedal box off just past the brake light switch bracket and welded the dash end of the mustang one to it, takes no time at all work great. Make a frame to do your dash in to keep it straight, the most critical measurement is the hole for the steering really I guess. I think if you look at my picture of the dash in the jig, some of the measurements are on the frame. You will end up with about 10-15 mm to fill in on the drivers side between the A/C hole, and the steering. The dash was pretty easy I seem to remember. I'll send you a pict of the pedal box, even though mine has a clutch the box is the same as an XF as such.

Firewall is pretty much mirrored, hopefully everything bolts up ok. Next up will be the dash, plenum & test fit booster etc. A couple more pics are on photobucket.

Post by: shaunp on July 03, 2009, 01:25:20 pm
Hey steve I was looking at your pics, don't weld your dash in till you hammer up the under side of the plenum from the wipers! The centre wiper is the hardest, drivers side one dosen't need as much hammering. I cut the top sections out with a hole saw useing a socket as the mandrell in the wiper hole. I think I used a 56mm and a 53 or similar this way the bit you cut out fitts in the smaller hole you cut.
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on July 03, 2009, 02:10:53 pm
Its just held in with visegrips. It wont be getting welded for a while. I want to be able to still take it out until the a/c, wipers etc are intalled
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on July 03, 2009, 02:53:22 pm
Just chucked on a few more pics. The dash is just tacked up at the moment, we are doing the bezels before it gets welded so we can make sure it all fits nicely. Also modifying the brake duct scoops so they work properly & only direct air through the duct & not fill the scoop up with water.

Mine is still out as well, even though it's finished, baring a skim up. Have to get in and finish that AC. May look at it this week end, although I broke the screen in my Discovery coming back from Dubbo yesterday around Narabri somewhere, so I may pull another one in to  it tomorrow instead, or maybe put my toploader together, see how I feel tomorrow, so many options I'll need more beer I think, to help descide.

That's the go, how'd you go with the bezels? have you plastic welded thme or are they just sitting there?
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on July 07, 2009, 03:51:46 pm
Plastic welded, at least tacked for the moment. I am waiting on a new dash pad, when that rocks up we will test fit it & finish the bezels to suit. I want it looking neat with no ugly gaps everywhere. Once the bezels are done I will get them painted & then sent down to Melbourne to get the brushed alloy inserts made up & fitted. We struck a drama with the column its too long. Have got another one coming but probably will take 3 to 4 weeks which is a bummer. Would have been easier to use a falcon column but I want the tilt one like original.

Steve what are you going to paint them with, I'll be keen to see what they look like, painted rather than vacuumed chrome etc
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on July 11, 2009, 10:16:27 am
I am going to have a crack with the HOK mirror chrome. I got a price from the bronzing studio to do just the instrument bezel in chrome plate. Lets just say I nearly had a heart attack. If I was going for concourse correct I would probably do it, but in this case I think that money will be better served elsewhere. The dash pad is fitted now so it is just minor tweaking now getting it all gapped up nicely. We may get the bezels finished next week. Then get some paint on & see how they look.
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: shaunp on July 11, 2009, 12:03:31 pm
Was it like $400
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on July 11, 2009, 12:43:27 pm
600 thats for just the bezel. Then add the piece above the glove box etc & we are getting into some serious coin. Add in the alloy inserts & time taken to convert them & thats some expensive plastic.
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: shaunp on July 11, 2009, 04:31:45 pm
John gets them done some where in Brisbane, or up the north coast I thought it was less than $400 for the lot. and the ones he did for his mate Dennis a supa good. He makes the insert from Laminex so it doesn't scratch or finger print.
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on July 11, 2009, 05:03:38 pm
Thats cheap, I am up for $400.00 for the inserts only. If I got them chromed at $600.00 for the instrument bezel you would have to assume another $600.00 for the other stuff. It would run at $1600.00 to do an already converted dash bezel set. Bloody insane. Hopefully the Mirror chrome looks the goods.
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: shaunp on July 11, 2009, 06:33:00 pm
I ment $400 for the chrome only, he makes the inserts him self from Laminex fake  brushed stainless, looks pretty good. My car has the alloy on the door trims as well, as it's a factory deluxe car, with black trim. Black and alloy looks really trick in them I reckon.

I Had a look at mounting the wiper motor, got that sorted I think,  I had an issue with it hitting the clutch pedal won't be a problem with yours,I'll sort that next week end, bead blasted all the air control flaps from the AC box, bent all the rods so they work the flaps from the opersite side, made the foam seals for the flaps. Gave the main AC box a coat of satin black acrylic, looks ok.  I had the dash in with the pedal box, mocked up wipers, had the wiper running, all good.

Steve when you are revsersing all the levers on the AC you'll see that one end of the levers has a bush, so it leaves big hole in the case. Go down to the hardware and buy some of those screw covers they use on kitchen cupboards. chuck the white clip on cover but use the nylon base that the screw goes through. This fitts exactly in the hole left by the bush, actually clips in like it was made for it and works as a bearing for the lever shafts. I'm thinking of getting rid of the foam seal from the blower to the main unit. Because the blower is really a sucker if this leaks, and it would for sure, it would reduce the the air pulled through the evaporator. Haven't decided what to do here yet. Maybe make a metal cuff with a seal inside to clamp the two units together ? Ps you don't need to reverse the levers on the blower unit, just the main unit..

Reversing the blower polarity seems loke an easier idea, thanks Shaun.

Small world !!

St Marys SA is run by Rob and his two sons. He is a member of MOCA etc etc. Has a couple of get cars and can do the lot !!!!

The latest bit of work he did for me was a disc brake conversion with booster.

Top bloke great work and well priced.

Must go with the St Marys name !!!! Love your work too Steve.

I have "a" steering column. The one I have been waiting for is still somewhere in fairyland. I think we will just shorten the one I have & make it collapsable. Dollars for the engine stuff will probably slow progress a bit, but I dont want to compromise so I will have to save.

A few more pics on the Hellanor page. I have been a bit slack with the camera. The body & panels are all in epoxy & heve been bolted up. Looks pretty cool but didnt get any pics of it. Next on the agenda will be test fit the suspension & get the rear end set up.

The fit up is easy, the upper arm is ok it has plenty of adjustment. The original spindles are on now but they are shagged, still tossing up what to use either standard or the TCP ones.

The top arms are adjusted all the way in at the moment. They will be extended slightly as the fitup occurrs. The long nuts you see towards the pivot are both left & right hand threads on each end, so by unwinding they extend.

Yes it is a very easy suspension to set up, providing you understand wheelalignment. That understandanding lets you "eyeball" the suspension for the prelim setup.

Use the standard ones as you may run into probs with engineers on the TCP spindles. Every invoice you have from TCP probably says "off road use only".

Hey Steve, are you in the shop over the next couple of weeks?

I am doing a swing around a few members places (hybrid & another couple of MOCA members houses) & I thought I would swing by. We can go over lists of parts needed & obtained.

I will be around, we finish up officially tommorow until the 4th, but I think I will be coming in all bar the public holidays with one or two of the boys. Still got a few loose ends to tie up over the break. I will give you a ring & see what you are up to, was hoping to catch up before you head back to the land of the global economic crisis.

Engineering shouldnt be a problem, I think the TCP spindles are based on 70 model ones & I am not sure if that will create issues with the tie rod ends. Also its a cost vs bling thing.

They will create issues with the amount of turn you will get. The fix is to mill (read "grind" as I know it is in a panelshop) the ends of the caster bars where they hit the spindle. That allows the spindles to swing more. I came upon this very problem on a 68 that had 70 spindles on it. That was the fix.

The tie rod issue is also an easy fix, just get the larger tapered ones for that end.

Hi Steve,

I used XF Spindles on my TCP with the larger inner Dia bearings. better load distribution on the axle and exact same outur dimension. Used XY on tie rod ends same simple fit up and positioning piece of cake really and low cost out to Northern Wreckers for the spindle and Repco for the rest.

Cheers Lance.

Mine is coming along well Steve (not enough hours when you have a boss to keep happy though)

Fired it up on Saturday with the help of BossKraft, it sounds good and strong like all Boss 302's should, well psuedo ones with big roller cams and high comp anyway.

It is trimmed now and only needs the brakes bleeding and then the front paneled up. Might make the All American Day on the 17th, won't be registered (engineer is on vacation) and I will probably need to sort out a few 'back together' gremlins. But otherwise all is good, reckon your shop will be one of the first Cruises to give you a look see.

Cheers and a Very Merry and Safe Christmas and New Year to you and yours.

Lance.

I got to say, even though I'm not a true believer in the aftermarket front end thing, the TCP is the stuff to buy if you must have it. It will load the car pretty much where Ford desinged it to be loaded. I'm not keen on the RRS full strut set up.

Slowly, I had to pay out the Ex the week before Xmas, so I need to dust off a couple of things to cash up a little. So I've got an XY replica almost in primer, to knock over, sell and then fit up my MGA which is sitting fully painted just needs chrome,  trim fitted detial etc, fit the head & fire up the E type and give it detail, put all 3 on the market, pay some loot back to the bank. Then I'll knock over the 67, easy body, just some shopping dents, and repair the drip rails, no other rust to speak of.
Still I came out of the deal with everything, all assets are mine, house, camper van, Discovery, 67 mustang, S + E type Jags, MGA, houshold contents, tools of trade etc, but it did cost $200K+ to get rid of her.

I hope she was good value while you were together at that price!! I remember when I was 16 my boss told me "dont hook up with a woman, its cheaper to go to a brothel 3 times a week" I didnt believe him, in your case he may have been right. I was lucky with my first go around, we didnt have anything worth fighting over.

Ah well, but considering how much loot she was spending behind my back over the years, particulary in the last couple, before I brushed her, $200K is the best money I've spent in a long time and I'm not the one living in the rented town house, she is, I'm still living 2 streets from the golf course, in Brisbane's bayside, just like I always have. I never use those cars anyway.

           what size tyres ??
would they fit the 69 with rolled guards, 9" rear??

I think they are 16 x 8, the tyre is a 245. This set are the wrong offset by a mile, without some serious wheel arch mods or chop 2 inches off each axle tube. On a 69 you should get a 16 x 9.5 with a 275 under it no worries if the offset is correct. The big drama is to get the fat looking dish the diff needs to be shortened.
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: muzz67 on March 31, 2010, 05:37:03 pm
And in NSW the trouble with shortening a diff is you then narrow the track and the +25mm rule then applies to the new track.

Gotta love some of the Rules, But they do look good on the back of it Steve, centres painted car colour and rim polished, woo hoo !

In NSW, the engineers work off the width of the diff, hub to hub, then add the standard offset that Mustangs had. So shortening a diff can be a big issue here.

If you saw the paperwork & the affixed plate that is in muzz67's coupe then you would understand. It is so detailed that the car cannot be changed at all from the way it was presented. All paperwork, inc photo's & affixed plate are kept in the car for any police or RTA inspection.

The laws are getting tougher nationwide on modifying cars, looking at what he had to go through is a glimpse of the future.

As I have said in a couple of threads I started, we have to, not only, keep abreast of changes, but have to be proactive as a group to show that we care for the world we live in. We will be killed by the media & therefore political gain if we don't.

Not wrong Kerry, QLD dot sent out a letter a few weeks back, stating that repairers now need to keep a detailed log of all repairs /mods /work done on every car that enters the shop, who supplied the parts, what brand etc, why they were replaced etc.

Muzz67 came for a visit in the Coupe last week, so I got to see the Engineers report. Its longer than a Tom Clancy novel. At least there is no areas that can be open to interpretation, very proffesional. The bonus for me is we are running essentialy the same suspension set up, as long as I follow the same parameters I should be ok.

BTW Muzz's 67 is one nice ride!!

Unfortunatly the Lexus seats had do be ditched, no way to make them tilt forward quickly enough to be legal. These little fellas are nice though, electric on the driver side & nice & comfy. They will be trimmed the right colour later, its a shame I dont like beige as they are in fantastic condition. More pics on photobucket. The seat risers are now seat lowerers::

Hey Steve  What are they out of? Are they low enough?
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on May 04, 2010, 01:13:31 pm
I think they are out of some sort of Datto, 200sx maybe. They are low enough now, the seat risers now are more of a reinforcment panel. I just need a 14" GM splined steering wheel, then I can sit in it & make sure everything feels nice & adjust the column length. The console should fit too, I will have it this arvo, after I steal it out of your truck along with all the other crap 0zbilt found for me:(

Steve,

they look like 1990 Nissan 300zx seats. If so there extremely comfortable to sit in for long hauls.

Looks good

How long did you spend on the seat risers?

Matt

Best part of a day on the risers to do both sides. They are reinforced properly so the seat wont pull through & that took a bit of time. Best bit is if you didnt know what they were supposed too look like they look factory. 300zx sounds about right, trimmed up in charcoal leather they should look horn. I like the pattern on them, they were in a 69 mach 1 & the insert at the moment is actual mach 1 trim.

More mods, should look alright once its finished. Trying to make a 4speed auto shifter work with the factory console & not look like a disaster. The floor needed to be reccessed to get the height right.

You did not muck around once you got some parts!! :(

I need to go over your list & compare to what you received the other day & I can then bring the rest over.

Been a bit slack on this one as well. We have mocked up a bit of stuff in the engine bay. I am going to run an engine plate now to get a bit more room for the extractors. Just got to get the finger out & get it made:hand:

Engine bay has been finished in primer with a few subtle mods. All excess holes have been filled. Just waiting on a radiator so we can finish the support panel & paint it.

Havent done an update for a while so I figured its about due. Spoke to piston man this morning & they should be shipped on Monday. Provided he isnt full of sh#t I should have them by the end of next week. Happy days, as then the engine can be assembled & get plonked in the engine bay. Once it is in it can stay there, so I will be stoked when that happens.

Engine bay just needs a good clean ready for engine install.

Hi Steve I just wondering if when your repairing the body's r u using a tig or just a mig. Interested to no if your trying to control the distortion or is it not that much of a drama
Title: Say Hi to Helleanor
Post by: soc123_au on June 22, 2012, 10:57:22 pm
Shouldnt be too long now Mal, hopefully in the next 4 weeks or so.

All the welding is either using a mig or spotwelder. One of the Migs is an inverter, it doesnt get the whole area as hot so it is pretty good controlling distortion. We have an inverter spot welder as well, but it is more for new cars with HS steel. The normal spot welder is fine on the old girls. When we replace panels we spot weld them as per factory to keep it looking as original as possible.

Havent spoken to them yet. Will stay up late tonight & give them a call. I can get pistons here, but 4 week minimum wait. Or buy a 427 block if I can find one. It will have some serious cubes then. The cost of this engine is getting way out of hand now though. I now can confirm what FE stands for, the E is expensive, the F well that is easy enough to work out.

Hi Barry, you wouldnt have a 427 block lying about would you. The pistons I got are 4.260 so I think they are to suit a 30 thou over 427. I have pretty much everything else. I am pretty sure all the other stuff I have would suit any FE block. I wish I had had second thoughts as well, for what I have spent so far I could have had an injected supercharged windsor with nitrous up & running by now. Probably with enough left over for a few tanks of fuel:banghead:

hi
no 427 blocks  only one i ever owned is the ali  genesis block in my black car
plenty of 428 cj blocks and engines and parts spares for my cj mach 1 s
build a 428 instead of a 390 and you wont regret it
a 427 block would cost between 2500 to 4000 depending if it a side or top oiler
i can check a few of contact and see if they have a 427 block

Yes, I am beginning to think that Cage. Bloody thing better be worth it when its finished.

Barry f I didnt have most of the stuff already I would consider a 428. The only reason I would go 427 is it would put the pistons to good use & the extra cubes would be nice. The bits I already have are
Dove Medium riser alloy heads (60cc)
Dove single spyder intake with injector bungs
Fast XFI Injection
Scat 4250 Steel Crank
BB Chev H beam Rods
Diamond Forged Flat Tops (extra large)
Comp Cams Magnum 306s solid flat tappet
Dove Roller Rockers
Appropriate lifters, valve springs etc.

The old girl has had a bit of love in the past month, its been a long time coming.

Here it has been blocked with 120 to get in nice & straight & the panel gaps massaged to where we want them. Then it gets hifilled again.

Here it has been blocked again with 180 then wet rubbed with 400 & then again with 800. It has just been painted through the centre for the stripes.

Now another hit with 800 & a cut with 1200 over the white areas.

Then it is reassembled, so the stripes can be masked off

Room is a little short side, so the extractors had to be made to suit.

And back from being coated.

The rest of the exhaust is still under construction.

Extreme exhausts at Penrith. Wayne is also the VP of MOCA NSW. They have done a great job. Hopefully I will get the car back early next week with the full system done.

The car has pretty much stalled for most of this year. Long story short, we got it fired up in mid April and I was happy as a pig in shit.

http://s63.photobucket.com/user/gbx78/media/hellanorfirstactualstart_zpsee90520d.mp4.html (http://s63.photobucket.com/user/gbx78/media/hellanorfirstactualstart_zpsee90520d.mp4.html)

http://s63.photobucket.com/user/gbx78/media/hellanorfinalrun_zps46275e8e.mp4.html (http://s63.photobucket.com/user/gbx78/media/hellanorfinalrun_zps46275e8e.mp4.html)

And then................

The next attempt to start it & we find it had seized. A few "errors" were made by the engine builder pretty much destroying it.
Fortunately he had insurance to cover stuff ups & he did the right thing in admitting what went wrong. Still it took a few months for the insurance company to assess & authorise the settlement (Understandable given the circumstances, they handled it very professionally)

Once that was sorted I re ordered the parts. Given that pretty much nothing in this car is "off the shelf" the parts took a while to arrive. I finally received them 2 weeks ago. The engine is in the process of being rebuilt & I should have it back before xmas all things going well.

To be honest though it really took the wind out of my sails, to be so close & then such a massive backward step. Part of the reason I have hardly been on here for the last 6 months. At one point I did consider pulling the pin on it & selling it, but sanity prevailed and we soldier on. I picked a good time to come back on and see the thread had been posted in recently  :smile01:

I will check through my pics & update where we got up to later. The exhaust is a work of art & all the plumbing is pretty sexy as well. The seats have been trimmed & a lot of other bits were done up until it went bang. Well not bang as such, more like click. At this stage I am hoping for completion before Easter next year.

A few more pics, didnt realise it had been so long between updates. I dont have any of the plumbing or trim. They can wait until it goes back together again. In the meantime.
