Hey Brains Trust,
I’ve just stripped my front wheel arches to reseal and paint.
I’d like a smooth finish rather than the motley finish of tar paints.
What can you recommend.

Hi Phil
Check a product called POR15.
Tough rust prevention coating that brush or roll on and smooths out to a gloss finish.
Tough coating when dry.
Black
No sound deadening qualities though
I used a product called Lizard skin ceramic coating but it has typical rough-ish texture

Funny thing, I was reading last night about por15 for gas tank sealing, supposed to be very good stuff!
Did you use a weldable primer on your gussets.

It is a great product mate. I used it for my floor pans after blasting.....tough as nails when dry......bit hexy on the dollar side but surprisingly it goes a long way.
For my shock tower gussets I applied a basic primer but cut the corners out of them so I could access the void behind and dosed it with fish-o-lene with a spray nozzle.
A full weld or stitch weld procedure will still require paint repair on the engine bay shock towers though.

It may be pricey but it sounds great, I'll use it.
I'm going well making the gussets, there is a lot of grind/ fit grind / fit dada dada.
I will fully weld them in , but in slow little stitches, the discoloured engine bay won't show up that bad, not much room under the bonnet!
I'll probably leave it for my welder and his Mig welder.
I'll check out our local welding supplies on Monday for the POR15.

Just checked again, they don't have POR15 anymore, but they do have a few other ones that do the same thing.

KBS is another good brand to use, very similar to POR15.

I found out we an Auto West Paint Supplies in Bathurst, great blokes helped me out.
COVID conditions meant I couldn’t have a look around.
I ended up with Bill Hirsch Miracle Paint and Upol #2 weld through primer and pretty good price.
Made a mess opening the can, as per directions I punched a pin hole through the top and got it all over my fingers, maybe take more time and a rag next time, then you seal the can with duct tape, it must go off quickly!
