Post by: 3XXX316 on August 16, 2015, 10:56:21 am
Any suggestions for shipping a '68 from California to the NT (Darwin)?

I've met a few people up here in imported cars but I don't think any have come directly to Darwin. I would be surprised if the Port facility here would be able to process it also.

Might be easier to ship to Brisbane then truck to Darwin .

How about ship to Adelaide and then on the Ghan ( or a goods train ) up to Darwin

Thanks guys.

It looks like I'll have to import into my local (Newcastle), buy a trailer and haul it to Darwin.  No way I'm trusting anyone else to transport it, or put those kinds of K's on it.

If you have any advice on the drive it would be greatly appreciated.

Otherwise,  I'll update here once import and trip from NSW to NT is complete.

No way are you kidding . Just to do that drive without towing a car trailer  is a killer and go do it with a car trailer with your mustang on it would be a mission . I have driven from the Gold Coast to Darwin and its a long long way and only safe to drive at safe hours because of animals on the road . It's doable but boy that's some trip .  Have you driven that trip before without a car trailer .

second Glenn's comments.
The Ghan crew are very proficient at delivering cars ( Adel - Alice - Darwin )
nice easy ride on the train.
Other option is to use the car carriers that the new car outlets in Darwin use.
You have to trust someone.

It's just under 4,000 Klms so at 100 kph is 40 hours driving ,not including under that speed ,traffic, stopping ,eating, being able to do 100 kph , sleeping ,crapping   :lmao: . Etc,etc .   Truck it ,train it ,but don't tow it .  If you had a truck that you could put it on the back off maybe ,but its still a 4 to 5 day trip in safety . Have you got a price from Ceva .

Having travelled to southern cities by car many times i too would not recomend it i paid Ceva to transport my car from Perth to Darwin on an open trailer but i have had other friends trnsport in closed trailers for about $2500 worry free dollars, the fuel cost alone to go and come back towing would chew up some serious bucks, just make sure to talk with trucking company on insurance or organise your own.

We've done the drive between Brissy and Perth before and it was a cake walk (besides the hours of dull driving).  We don't mind a bit of a drive...

Ten days of fuel and accommodation will be paid for if I choose to tow the mustang between Newcastle and Darwin.  Do you still think it's still not worth it?

DONT BE  STUPID!  Listen to the boys here and please  dont attempt be a hero with such a drive with car on trailer  !

Even if its a rare shelby..... Because if it is, then you can afford enclosed transport TOO👍

Sorry for my straight forwardness, but these fellas really do know.

Newcastle to Darwin ,so Brisbane and up and in  :thud: .  A lot of the road is crapy till you get to the NT border then it quite good . From dusk  and early mornings a lot of live stock ,roos ,sheep, even water buffalo can be on the road . If you are going to do this take a couple of spare wheel bearings and tyres for the trailer and the right tools for repairs to it . The trailer must have light truck tyres not car tyres . Trailers are hard on tyres and you will be for forced off to the left off the road at times by trucks when the road is narrow .
