Title: 65 GT K code convertible
Post by: 65-PWR on July 15, 2015, 04:16:01 pm
new member
found , 1965 k code HiPo GT convertible with Pony interior in Oregon (excellent condition) in August 2014, then imported it to Australia.
registered it in November 2014.
the only work I had to do was upgrade front and rear suspension and added new tyres and wheels, everything else was refurbished/rebuilt in USA. drives like it's on rails
Very rare find, only 270 ever built , 1 of only 150 built in San Jose.

would like to know if anybody else knows of another one in Australia.

Welcome to the forum,

Love the colour of the car as it's similar to ours just a different interior colour, however is it a 65 or 66 as the EmberGlo colour is a 66 only colour.

Also I keen to understand the production figures you mentioned as there weren't any detailed records kept and the Marti reports didn't start until 67.

Hi ,
Yes it is Emberlo and it is a late 1965 model.(all numbers matching)& "v" on the plate on the drivers door.
the car has only had 3 owners, in  USA who all knew each other and the car, I am the fourth.
the story is handed down thru each owner and finally to me.
the car was a special order by Hertz as a Wedding car. they wanted a colour that was different to other Mustangs. As they ordered so many cars from Ford, Ford offered them Emberlo colour before Ford decided to put that colour into General production in 1966.
the next owner was a Ford Buff who Knew the numbers and history of the car and the 270, 1965 "k" code GT convertible vehicles produced can be verified on the WWW.
the next owner, started  restoring the car in 2010 and finished approx. 2012 it even had the same wheels as  yours have.(I changed these and sold them).
unfortunately for him he died and the car was stored very well by the family until the estate was sold up in 2014. that's were I was lucky.

it looks like your car is for sale in the picture you sent, Is it? and what kind of money are you looking for.

Peter

Hi Peter,

That's a good story and I hope there's documentation to validate the story as it's my understanding there was a paint code used for special paint orders.

The photo of our car was taken at last year's Sandown Historic's, unfortunately the car isn't for sale as it's the member for happiness's car.

Hi Peter,

That picture looks like it was at the Redbank Plaza car park - was that for the Toowoomba memorial run?

I have admired your car on the last couple of runs including the day at Lakeside - a really different colour but stunning in the metal for sure.

Not sure if I have caught up with you yet but will no doubt soon enough, a great story on that car for sure :coolpic:

Cheers
Scott

Fair call - we did one session, had a blast but came away with too many ideas on how to spend more money :evilone: :burnout:

Any more pictures ( engine bay)  special order paint cars would generally have a blank  in the door tag, Does it retain the original door tag, or replaced with a repop, :thumb:

1965 k code HiPo GT convertible with Pony interior

Nice.

I recall seeing a US ad for one just like it when I was looking for my car; good price too but I didn't want a vert.

I think there was a guy in Melbourne (Sanctuary Lakes) had a 65 red K code vert with pony interior. It won best vert at the big All American car show at Flemington race course about three years ago. He did sell it for 90K I think. Don’t know where it is now.

MOCA keeps fairly detailed records of member cars, so it may be worth speaking to the club registrar who may be able to put you in touch with them if they are a member.
