Got in and out of it of what feels like 4000 times. Drive down driveway, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, daughter's school, son's school, shop, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, drive up driveway, drive down driveway, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, court, back to shop, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, drive up driveway, drive down driveway, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, daughter's school, post office, back to shop again, son's school, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, drive up driveway. Maybe not 4000 times, but enough...Sounds like a remote operated automatic gate is soon to be!!!

Is there plenty of room under the boot where the bolts are, could you put a longer bolt in and a locking nut on the back?
HELP PLEASE !!
I havent driven the mustang in over 3 weeks, so I thought I'd take it out for a bit.
Low and behold, 5 minutes into the trip and the shifter comes lose ( really lose ).
I got it home, but only just.
Ive got a 5speed T5 and my Hurst shifter keeps coming lose. Ive tried changing the bolts ( using allen key high grade atm ) and Im using loctite.
Any suggestions to stop them from rattling lose?
Must be some kind of clash in there then if even the locking nut comes undone. Was it a nylock nut that you used?
I removed a T5 shifter yesterday off a 97 EL. Still had the original bolts in place, no locking nut on the back and they were tight as hell. Maybe the bolts you are using are the problem, try a lower grade bolt? Or even some standard Falcon ones?
I can add a photo of the standard Falcon gear if you are not familiar with them if you like.
Unsure of exactly what set up it is but my brothers (panel beater and spray painter) always went with a lock nut in difficult situations. Tighten one nut and then slip another nut straight nut behind the first nut. Hope this helps.
new front shocks going in.Gday Ray,
Hey MattCool,

Nothing, feels like it is running on 3 cylinders so it's not going anywhere. :cry:work out why then it's something out of nothing........ :thumb:
Installed a ribbed tail light panel today and adjusted the boot lid. Being a repo part the quality was a bit so so. I had to spend a few hours prepping the panels as the casting was rough. I chose to paint it metallic silver which was very similar to the raw cast colour.

Spent 2 days of my Easter break polishing the beast and applying a sealant.
Looking good mustangpaul :thumb:
Put the front seat in, all inside done now and looks and smells awesome. Took it on the road for the first time in 2 years and with the new motor, tri y's, tranny and diff now reconditioned, twin free flow exhaust, it drives like a new car and the exhaust note is mellow music. Makes all the hard work and fustration worthwile. Now just a few little things to do and all finished. Really look forward to cruising.
Swore & cursed at it!!!!! :soapbox:
Looks like we've done a heater core :ouch:
Sadly, probably tucked away for winter now :tissue:
We have the car ready for towing on Monday morning. It is going into the spray booth then.
Looking real good mustangpaul :thumb:Coming along in leaps and bounds fellas!!
Installed my door mirrors.

took the seats out and stripped them down. new covers go on tomorrow!
Also continued the radiator install and added some koni's to the rear.
Had the guys "Mattstang", "JoeyBB435", "RayAzza"come over for a beer and yarn on Friday night. Managed to glue the boot rubber on.

Put in the new venetian blinds.......Looks awesome........
Started 2 weeks ago with a faulty brake master.....replaced master, new calipers, pads, rotors, hoses & wheel bearings (ALL SPANKERS)....then of course we will check the rear, slight oil leak from the diff pinion seal & axle, replaced drums, pads & wheel cylinders & hose (all spankers), sent diff away for minor o/haul, will get it painted in 2-pack "red oxide", axle housing will be painted 2-pack low gloss black, replacing rear axle bearings while they're out also......new mid-eye 5 leaf springs being fitted as the car had a lean to 1 side like a ski slope, having a HUGE problem removing front eye bolts :ouch:, ANY SUGGESTIONS :smash: OR KNOWN TRICKS would help?.....BTW, not all this done today
Looking good, this is the fun part finally the end is is sight
Cheers. Chris & Sally
Mustangpaul, that was a marathon effort. Well done :thumb:
Look forward to seeing some updated photos.
Rocket.
Just recently bought mine, not on the road yet, so basically admiring it and appreciating the way it looks in my driveway :grin:I did the same with mine and then me and brewski would try to visualize the finished product.
Nowhere seems to have dual master cylinders for drums in stock in the country either :(I have an original for a 68 if they are the same.
Thanks guys.Get it sleeved with stainless and it will last longer then a new one, Old school brakes at Wynnum, or TBS can do this, little more expensive then a new one but better.
They are going to overhaul it, so that should pump a bit of life back into it for a while. Will look at replacing with a stock dual master down the track.
Car has been in the shop getting new drum brake kit installed all-round. Lots of issues with hoses/cylinders fitting (new rear cylinders take hose at 45 degree angle, whereas hard line comes in straight at the moment - very odd. Must be Falcon cylinders in there as they're the same size as the front), and then turns out all the hard lines were rusted out and snapped when re-fitting. Waiting for new lines to be made up today, but that should mean all new cylinders can and hoses can be used.
Hopefully will be done today and I can stop safely, and experience what Ray above has after his brake job :)
Straight ones are falcon, angle are mustang.
Thanks, thought that must've the case. The rears should be 7/8 on a drum car. I may have a good spare valve you can have if you want it.
Master cylinder is all done and re-sleeved stainless. They forgot to bleed the differential valve to turn off the warning light though, and spent an hour trying to undo the nut trying not to twist the line. Going to soak it in WD40 for a day and return to them on Saturday morning.
Given the Mustang wheel cylinders are smaller than the Falcon ones that were on the rear, it doesn't stop as well now with only rear brakes - but at least everything has been replenished. Should be golden once the fronts are working again.
Thanks Shaun!
I'll see if we can get the nut undone tomorrow morning after a few more soaks of WD40 - otherwise I'll take it :)
The mechanic has brake line spanners, and doesn't want to crack it too hard for the risk of twisting/snapping the old brake lines.
Worked on the electrical system, trying to bring the car back to life.Any sign of a pulse yet Dino? :smile01:
What happened to the leggy blond?
Thought it was time for a change - you've seen one leggy blond, you've seen them all.
Drained ,completely stripped out and flushed the radiator in my 65. Only some loose scale came out of the top tank.
Fitted everything back up along with a TEFBA in line filter, refilled and flushed with fresh water twice. The thermostat (160Deg) had opened at about Qtr. gauge.
Drained once again ,refilled with 5Ltrs of NULON 100% concentrate anti freeze / anti boil and topped up with distilled water.
Went for about a 15 mile cruise late today, temp gauge reached about half scale. Pulled up at home to check for leaks, all good!! :smile01:
Spent near 1000 to sort my brakes out, lines, shoes, service, wheel baring adjustments, headlights and blue slip :tissue:
Ash and Shaun. Can we meet half way. I am sure George can't wait to get a few klm's under his belt.
Nice, I was supposed to be coming down next week end to pick a 67 GT 390 FB project with a mate that has just landed, but my duaghter is having day surgery on the monday so, need to hang around home. Want catch up with some of you sydney blokes though.
I am only going to drive it home..... sydney to well... ALmost bathurst. 150km to be exact.
Will let you know how she runs, and stops through the mountains....... if not...... :flag:
After nearly being rear ended a couple of times by people not noticing the flashing red brake light indicator, I converted the backup lamps to combined amber indicator/white reverse light using the Dual Colour LED set up from Mustang Project. Really is great, looks absolutely stock standard but you have the advantage of the amber indicator but still have your white reverse light. Hopefully that will be the end of the sound of screeching tyres from behind when I'm making a turn. :smile01:
This is it here: http://www.mustangproject.com/ProductDisplay.aspx?ID=810a676c-a018-484d-9c41-46bbdde9968f (http://www.mustangproject.com/ProductDisplay.aspx?ID=810a676c-a018-484d-9c41-46bbdde9968f)
This light you posted now makes the 'reverse' lights become indicator and still remains white in reverse and thus the red tailights flashing no longer happens?
I got a 69 fastback if that changes anything?... Should have read it first... 68 is last. Do they have something like that for 69?

Any wiring mods required ?
Got any pics ?
That's right George, the red tail lights don't flash any more.
This is what they have for the '69 car.
http://www.mustangproject.com/ProductDisplay.aspx?ID=2e59a914-94c0-4d3b-998d-d0b3868581a6 (http://www.mustangproject.com/ProductDisplay.aspx?ID=2e59a914-94c0-4d3b-998d-d0b3868581a6)
I emailed the company whether or not they had the same blinker setup available for the 69 as they do the earlier ones. I myself would rather the reverse lights be like blinkers than changing the look of the 3 red tail lights to 2 red one amber.
Take the coil off to make room to reseal the heater outlet. Did that, put it back together and now it won't bloody start. That's it, time for a strong coffee and look at it again tomorrow. Too stressed to work on it any more today..
Hey 68 Coupe
Did the kit from Mustang Project have just the led plate and attached wires, or did it have the housing and lens as well? My 67 has been converted to have the original reversing lights now as indicators with amber lenses, stop/tail lights are just that, and I have no reversing lights. I had toyed with the idea of wiring up the (current) indicators as indicator/reverse using the twin contacts already there in the housing, a twin filament bulb, and extra earth wire, with the current amber lens. The reversing lights would be amber as well but it worked OK on my old Kingswoods.
This kit would save a lot of st#ffing around. :thud:
I don't want to go adding extra ligts or changing the look of the car.
Did you have to change the flasher unit under the dash to handle LED's ?
George are you sure you have to change the rear blinkers ,as it is pre 73 .Not in my state QLD ,only after 73 here .
Not needed at all for roadworthy. I like this car so much that i need to buy something for it, like a car im not selling thus can spend to improve it... That cheap blinker setup sounds cheap enough for a 'hey i did my car up a little' feeling. I like better blinkers personally anyway. No more flashing red bulbs is perfect. I cant wait till its available!
:grin:don't you mean pushed... ah you must have been driving your wife's stang... :lmao:
I drove mine 3 times in the pooring rain. It's wet dirty and parked in the same state. Actually... it's cleaner now than what it was before as it had rained earlier in the week and then it got dusty.
don't you mean pushed...
I ran mine out of gas, was trying to get it low so I could drain it to change the fuel sender. Had a five litre container in the boot - I wonder how far I can go on that?
cracked my windscreen ,but thats ok its only a new one .
Might sound a bit boring but took my 670 holley carb off my 66 and fitted larger jets and changed the front squirter up a few sizes . Going to the drags in a few weeks so starting to muck around with it . Hey Ross and Rodney and Peter. :hi: can not have you guys wiping my butt . :smile01:I am starting to doubt that I will be ready mate so no threat here, not yet anyways
Tried to get a blue slip - and failed!
Finally got her registered!
RTA identity check completed, Green Slip done, went to RMS and picked up my new plates then stuck them on the beast!!
Only downside is the $3,000 Stamp Duty and Registration costs!

David, Congratulations - That is fantastic news! :pepper:
How about a photo now that you have your personalised plates on the car.
Rocket.
Does that say 3400 pounds of pressure?
Wow! It'll be very interesting to hear how it is to use. My 428 had a 3 armed Ram clutch which from what I could find was 2800 pounds and it was extremely heavy. Very on/off too. It'll be great to hear how you find the diaphragm style.
Appreciate it. Thank you. :thumb:He works it out as he goes along, he getts the flywheel and works out what he can fit on it, if he has something there he can build, he will or if not he will buy something disassemble it and blue print it, swap the diapram etc, what ever it takes.
Postage would be no probs. I was looking into a clutch from Modern Driveline in the US so need to pay post no matter what. Will see what he has to offer.
Changed the diff centre to 3.7 ratio ,going to willowbank raceway 1/4 mile drags in 2 weeks ,4.11 would have been better but no good on the hwy . If i had a 750 holley carby lying around i would have fit that as well . If i would spend the money i would fix my auto as well so it would go into top gear without having to back to off so it would go in to 3rd gear no problems . :burnout: ps anyone else want to go .
Got locked out, found the rear window moulding is not fitted correctly letting water in, the front tyre has a slow leak letting air out and too much oil on the garage floor under the engine - nothing good really!
:toetapping:
Went for a spin ,came home opened the hood ,looked for some more HP, could not find any, closed hood . Why going to give it a run down that drag strip next saturday, end of story . :burnout:
OK do i put it into the fuel tank ,and how many bottles do i need for another 100 HP .i NEED YOUR INPUT THANKS .
more like WHAT IT DID TO ME...Oh no Greg...Looks like your out of action for the week :therethere:
overhauling rear drums this arvo and attempted to release a brake shoe spring, slipped and opened my thumb joint up big time on the nicely sharp wheel arch lip.
there was more claret on the floor than a wine press and game over for the day.
the bastard bit me good dammit....

Well good on you Rodney about time :thumb: You had a better day than me my fuel pump was shitting itself when i put in top gear at the track ,so only 2 runs for me ,went shit .How was the rest of the meeting??
Drove it out of the garage under its own power for the first time in over 6 years, drove it down around the corner into the Cul-de-sac spun it round and parked it in the truck bay, I am sure the neighbors love me as it is running straight out of open headers but it was only just off idle as it needs a tune big time.
Pulled a couple of storage cupboards from behind it and put them in the wifes shed and gave me more room for the mustang and less chance of getting damaged.
Fired it up again and put it away.
Probably should have given it a bath while it was out but I will wait untill I have had the car cover cleaned I think.

Didn't think that the single globe that lights the tail/brake lights was good enough for such a big lens, so upgraded them to some 'bat wing' LED's. Made a huge difference, really bright.

While I was at it replaced the tail light housings as the base had just about rusted through, one of the lenses was cracked so got a couple of new Ford Tooling replacement lenses and changed all the gaskets and rubber pads. Looking good.
Also replaced the dodgy headlight dimmer switch. :smile01:
Are they 17 inch wheels?Yes they're 17" wheels
Andrew,
I found an old thread which linked to http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm (http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm) about led bulbs. I am looking at some leds for my car, and are as per the pics. The first is both white with parkers on and turns to amber when indicating, so you keep your clear lense. The second is for the brake light.
not much really as its in the shop but I did watch "Married with Children - Have you driven a ford lately" (1987). I watched this episode when I was 9 years of age and it was the first time I fell in love with the pony.

i want to change the topic to "When did you last drive your mustang?" for the benefit of Sydney drivers
bloody rain just wont stop....
69ISH well its about B time ,ha ha ,good to see it on the road .Its wearing the 69ISH plates off the "Eliminator" as well and surprisingly they actually look good in the black and yellow colour scheme.
69ISH ,did you adjust the front and rear pumps on the carby yet ,with full throttle and pulling the arm down as well you need 15tho gap ,not a gap just sitting there .I suppose the dyno guy will do that for you .He is recurving the Dizzy, adjusting the rockers tuning the carb and giving it a once over.
took the muzzy to our blues band shoot and picked up my new board.... surfs up!

All bought locally from Sydney Mustang Parts, Carlton except LSD, .......yesterday, starter & solenoid, today purchased monte carlo bar (& fitted it) & new hood hinges which hopefully will be fitted tomorrow......since April have completely fitted all new brake components from master to rear shoe springs & EVERYTHING in between incl rotors, hoses bla bla bla, Eaton TrueTrack LSD, leaf springs & all hardware, tailshaft uni's, radiator hoses & clamps, valve cover gaskets, new sump pan (old one had dodgy mod to plug/thread & leaked)....
That looks like a lot of niceness under your car, it feels good to know your mechanicals' are nice and sound, I know, hope you didn't spend too much on the bla, bla, bla like I did?, these cars drag you in deep!
Looking very nice Gazza...Which leaf springs did you purchase?
Cheers
John
4 1/2 leaf mid-eyes, 1" lowered which is in-keeping with the production GT....BTW, I still have the original 4 leaves which need total rebuild (maybe good for concors resto????), they have original P/N stampings but some minor grinder damage from removal....FREE for pick-up or they're off to the Rockdale Waste Disposal CentreI'll take them for spares thanks...I was going to redo mine rather than purchasing new ones...I will pm you with more details...

I'm very fortunate having a mechanical background (aircraft mechanic), & 36 yo son is motor mechanic, 31 yo son is a vehicle refinisher, hence the paint work, not concourse but I try to do it right
Simply......I drove it....again, like most days!:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: THATS THE SPIRIT
The electrician is booked , the exhaust is finished, the final load of finishing parts are on the way, full steam ahead, next stop DMT and Rego.
mustangpaul what sort of power points and down lights are you fitting in the stang ? cause i see you called for the sparkie i would do it for you since i am a sparkie but i live in victoria (mexico to northerner's) but seriously you must be getting pumped now soooo close !
cheers

Lots of people doing their windshield washer plumbing!
Could one of you please post a photo that shows how exactly you ran the pipes for them?
It would be a massive help for when it comes time for me to do mine! :thumb:
Put the new heart together today.
Are you putting it in your Mustang Peter? What ecu are you using?Yes, going in the old girl and the 4 speed auto.
Put the new heart together today.
Yes, going in the old girl and the 4 speed auto.A mate is running one with a Mega squirt ecu, with the auto from an NC Fairlane the engine came from, some of the early 4 speeds have a stand alone ecu, just needs TPS signal. He did not use the original air ram, but rather a throttle body under a factory air cleaner, so it looks kind of stock still multi point injection though, modified the injection lower manifold to suit the throttle body. Seems to go ok.
Its a bitsa, falcon engine with a mix of mustang gt and explorer components.
Will be using the ford ecu with some extensive remapping.
Peter.

HO cam, I guess with the 1.7s? That should wake it up a bit they make good power. I'm going to put mine together this week, painted the inside of the block last night, about to go and give the outside a hit of 2pack shortly. I'm using some AFR Outlaw alloy heads, and reasonable sized Comp Cam extreme energy roller cam with some Scorpion roller rockers. I've got a set of 1.7s comp cams rockers, from another engine, but the valves will be getting close to the pistons on this cam I think, and I don't want to move the power an higher up the rev range, I'll check the clearance when I build it, may try the 1.7s later for an experiment. Not running injection, but and RPM Air-gap and Holley avenger. Got some RHD Hedman ceramic coated 4 into 1 headers, from Sydney mustang supplies. Hopefully it will be a pretty twisty engine.HO cam with 1.7 rockers were standard in the sprint engine in the falcon.
Met up with my Ncle and his 02 Cobraconvertible and went for a nice cruise through the valley and up to the Corrugated Cafe at Peats Ridge for a big bacon and egg breakfast and a couple of happy snaps of the girls!

Even better when the girls are waving to you and their boyfriends give you a dirty look :lmao:
had a woman pull up beside me at lights, wound the passenger window down where her teenage daughter was sitting, asked if she could swap cars, her daughter gave me the most filthy look I ever saw....
GT SALLY ,YES PEOPLE TAKE PHOTOS OF MY MUSTANGS ALL THE TIME AND ASK IF I WILL GET OUT OF IT SO I DONT SPOIL THE PHOTO . :lmao: :lmao: DOEST SOUND LIKE THAT HAPPENS TO YOU . :grin:at 62 with a shaved & not so pretty head, they don't have the balls to ask.....I have been tols I look like Angry (Gary) Anderson & Gary Sweep not to mention Bruce Willis
(Every 10 degrees of under bonnet temp air costs you 2 horsepower) Peter.
did something i said id never do, fit a kiddy seat in the back.Fit a rubber matt behind baby seat so it won't leave an imprint on the seat. Got there at 0900 left at midday. Great day out.
we took our 2yo grandson on our usual sunday coastal drive, he dug every bit of it with the windows down. (and its a wonder i didnt see you on that road birdman!)
Cut an old fuel tank in half for a "birds eye view"
Then made the EFI pump pick up assy.
Have an Autometer dash set up so will be able to calibrate the fuel sender as well.
The old sender supply will become the fuel return.
Peter.
Fitted passengers seat from a BA Falcon ute as the drivers seat.Out of curiosity, was it a straight swap ?
Just searched eBay for a potential rear Venetian blind. Old skool :thumb:
here you go ron old school venetian i bought 2 years ago. brilliant quality ill dig up where i got it from here.
loved it but couldnt see a thing thru back window during the day for reflection off the louvres onto rear window. a pain when trying to reverse so i sprayed it satin black. they appreciably cut heat in cabin also during summer. (and i sure miss the smooth ride those whitewalls gave too)
cheers griff

yeah dale, so surely someone hired a GT350 hertz back in 66 and took the Venetian blind option because "it's too hot in the back seat!!"I rekon a blind on my old coupe would have been great!
go on dig one up and be the first kid on the block with one in his hertz!!

sent from my ShoePhone
wont be too much longer JT.......... :thumb:Yup! Just got to fix the heater and I'll take it for a roadworthy..
Got it out of the garage and gave it a polish..
I'm at a loss, here. Why does the heater have to work for a roadworthiness cert? When I bought mine from Vic, the heater didn't work, in fact it wasn't connected. Thanks Ron,
Good luck getting it regoed, JT and I like the scoop. V cool.
cheers, Ron B
Hey JT, the car looks great. Love the colour. :thumb::agree: The guys did a great job with it.

Raven, I'd like to see the work of art when its finished, getting pipes through there..
Also got - F.A.S.T EFI fuel injection system
Would love to see this be installed and what you think of it afterwards. :thumb:I'll keep you posted. I am away for three weeks but when I get back it will be a priority!!!
Well,
Fitted the T bar,
Sorted the dash and instruments,
And almost finished the engine bay......almost.
Road tested all good goes really well very strong top end.
Barks like a dog though compared to the 289 will have to change the mufflers don't want any attention.
Peter.
Nice work there Peter. Well done.
I shifted rubber fuel lines away from my exhaust near the fuel tank. Also purchased some heat shield tape and exhaust wrap to make sure I have no drama. :smash:
Thanks LittleJohn
I have encased all the fuel lines and battery cables (battery now in boot) in fire proof lagging.
It has a woven fiberglass inner with a polymer outer and is rated rated at 1000 degrees.
Where did you get that fire proof lagging from?
It is used in the Fire Service industry to protect Fire truck fuel and brake hoses.
Peter.
Does the heater come in as part of the RWC?
Moz
. In case you cant guess I am a little bit excited right about now. It has only taken me 2 years 7 months and 13 days
Then why the f%&k would you try to rego it on Friday the 13th?
Who knows what could go wrong today :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
After 6 months of not doing anything to the car( bit burnt out) got on line and order heaps of goodies, went out and bought some new leaf springs and took the cover off to access what to do next. New motivation has arrived, and should get a good run at the resto the next few months.
we'll finish it off on Sunday and I should be on the road next week.Let me be the first to wish u luck next week Mustangpaul , u probably deserve some after your resto.
Sad to leave the Mustang but in six months, I'll have a new car. :pepper:
Finally took mine for a decent drive,
The EFI is fantastic.
The 4 speed auto even better.
Couldn't be happier with the outcome.
Would appear to be a dramatic decrease in fuel consumption as a bonus.
Peter. :smile01: :smile01: :smile01:
Peter,All the best, I hope you will be as happy as me.
Well done. I am two weeks away from finishing my project. I will have the atomic efi on a 347 with a 4r70w trans. I hope to have a similar outcome :thumb:
GOOD LUCK MATE!
And with plenty of time to spare for next month's roundup. :thumb:That was the plan! :thumb:
Had a spare couple of hours so gave it a good clean in preparation for Saturdays Nuts and Bolts day.Gunna take it out in the rain Nick? :rain:
I've got my compliance plate. Will see you at car show sooner or later. She's come a long way from the rusted out T code that came in from the States, Marvelous what a 289, Gt Bonnet and some Cragars' can do, not to mention good old fashioned steel to replace some wood, a toilet roll, rags, sticks and foam.
got the mail to find my plastic MOCA membership card..
It is a small world, my plastic membership badge (with magnet backing) arrived here this morning.
We should be brothers
Haha, yeah!
I FINALLY GOT MY ROADWORTHY CERTIFICATE!!
This evening I will take the car to the papers signed by the CPS and I'll pick up my plates tomorrow morning, with plenty of time to spare before the roundup! :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:
Finished installing the rack n pinion. Everything checked. All fluids checked. Drove down to get my green slip as its been out of rego since November last year. Pass! Head down to the MVR to pay for rego. MVR is closed. I got there at 4:03 and they close at 4 here in Katherine. FECk!
took mine over the pits today - failed as it "had disc brakes and they were not an option on any mustang".
:wtf: Hey Moe, I think somebody needs to educate the RTA in Canberra.:agree:
took mine over the pits today - failed as it "had disc brakes and they were not an option on any mustang". Not overly impressed, especially as the brakes are all stock. :therethere:
They did pick up a few minor things.
JT, I can lend you my Sound-Racer device that plugs into the lighter and sends a nice V8 sound to the radio from the pulses of the alternator.
I bought it for a mate as a joke, but geez it works great and has a real V8 idle sound.
The devices are great, you should try one...Yeah, they were fine, they just wanted to see the logbook and make sure I wasn't driving a V8..
And... as long as the boys treated you in a way you expected to be treated in the circumstances then alls good. Apparently there are 9000 of them, so only another 8998 to go..
Mark from Capital Classics told me about this today...seems that the Dickson guys like to see every car twice.
Couldn't you jump on the internet and prove to them that they were an option?
My '66 has front discs and they didn't question these last month.
I registered my 1967 Mustang Convertible, I'm on the road. :burnout: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :burnout:

Attempt number....?
three :toetapping:all worth it in the end though.... :burnout:
Looks purdy Frank!
Hev, looks like you have been doing some work to the old girl.. It's looking good.
"quote".
Fitted the '70 fuel tank (22 US gallons) into the '66, along with required filler neck, easy fit, but why do some people use silastic as a sealer around the tank?
Used windscreen sealant so no more acid attack worries.
Now for a new custom made boot carpet. "quote"
be aware, petrol will disolve silicone products!
sliding?? hahahahahahah now to find the sliding nuts .. omfg !Hey littlejohn. I hope you have long skinny hands. I've had those #%@$# bolts out several times and always curse fitting them back in. I can just get my left hand up behind the dash near the headlight switch and reach over towards the steering column to find the nuts. They are captive nuts (held in kind of a slot so they can move forward and back) and ALWAYS slide away from where they need to be. Persistence with these old cars
cracked the @$%^ with it !
Took the old girl out for a spin this afternoon. My mate's HZ has a pretty hot 350 Chev and leaves me for dead but the Mustang gets all the looks. Nothing finer than a 69er.
you dont have to prove anything whereas he will always think he has to.And try he does. :burnout:

Doh, master cylinder needs an overhaul as well so won't get it back until tomorrow.
Nowhere seems to have dual master cylinders for drums in stock in the country either :(
The bloke at the back there is saying "stay back everybody...HEVENS on the TRACK" :burnout:
Well not exactly today ..but a few weeks ago, 12.5 @ 111mph, Im preddy happy, air con, power steer, street tyres and the lazzo band wound right up.

Went to a local car show and picked up another trophy. :pepper:
I love that so many others love the Stang!
Mustangpaul ,so you got them ,i was going to bid on them but they jumped from just over 100 to 300 quickly then i missed out as i got my finish time wrong .Good buy at that price .
given the auto has gone cactus i spent some time tracing its historyCool
i spoke to the widow of the original owner in Compton California who told me that they bought the car new and her husband loved it like a child
He died in 1995 and the car sat in the yard of their home until the grandkids started playing on it so she sold it to Mustang city as she never wanted to see it again because of the memories it holds. Apparently he pulled the cabees off the hood locks and and put padlocks on them!
at first she thought i was some wierdo calling but when i explained why i was calling she opened up had to put her grandson junior on the phone because she couldnt understand my accent
sending her a pic of the car now and they will find some old pics etc to send back
Droped the car off to get the 2 1/2 inch Magnaflow S/Steel system fitted thats been sitting in the shed for to long!
If that's the same one that is on my car, Rapid, I hope your neighbours like you  The next few streets over will probably be able to hear you too :burnout:
Bought a new set of wheels today, can now inter change between the styled steel wheels and these, once I get some tyres on them. :pepper:
Well it wasn't on my car but while out at a local meet some exhaust nuts had rattled off on a friends muzzy, so a couple of the boys chipped in with a helping hand.
Hey griff,is it all in one piece? Anything fall off? Like an alternator wire???
Sorry mate, had to throw that one in.
Couldnt agree more John,
Never seen a car held togethor with so much wire, I sure hope Griff can remove all that fencng wire when he gets home, nothing like the "Shire Toolbox" fencing wire, electical tape and pliers. :lmao:
Nuts n Bolts Griff, never leave home without them.
Works in progress, the title `The Bush Mechanics `does come to mind
Great pics Matt!
Yep, looks like Griff is pissing in Birdman's pocket again. Hope he took his banjo and straw hat and made it back to the deep south safely.

P.S. I thought you said you only had one nut and why is it when spell check kicks in your name comes up as GRIEF ???
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Dont you know them ,they are the Deliverance brothers ,very well known Rednecks . :smile01:Sorry I don't ,I'm one generation under you guys. Lol
Not the Mustang (but still a Ford!)...
I cut and polished (by hand - because I don't have an electric buffer :nopity: ) the daily driver's paintwork to bring back the shine and make it a little more appealing to drive and with just a 1.8l 4cyl and FWD, it needs as much help as it can get, especially when I have just driven the Mustang! :bolt:
Anyway... After a quick bath and clay, I set about cutting / polishing the paint, every now and then looking over to the Mustang, knowing it would never be as shiny or as smooth, as it had recently been resprayed, cleared and professionally cut and buffed in a workshop AND, I had just polished it..
Keen to get a really good comparison of before and after, I put some masking tape down the centre of the hood...
I was pleasantly surprised at just how well it worked out, even though it was only done by hand.. Much less an amateur's hand!
Check THIS out!

This was the stuff I used with just a polish applicator pad and clean towel (to wipe off residue)..

JT, Excellent work - That 50/50 shot sure does show an amazing difference. :thumb:Thanks Rocket, I was very surprised at how much of a difference it made, because I was only doing it by hand and I wasn't sure how much effort it would take to get the shine back..
It is hard work polishing a car like that.
Make sure to finish it off with a wax or it could dull off again fairly quickly.
Rocket.
As long as he does not squeal like a pig ,watch the movie and you will know what i am talking about . :omg:
Picking up tomorrow morning,
How did you go, Rapid?
O.H&S would have something to say about those 'Chinese safety boots" also !!!!! :itsnotfair:
.. replaced with a new set of good USA made hoses and a reconditioned exchange control valve from SydneyMustangParts. All good - no more leaks. :smile01:
Hey 68Coupe, how have you run the power steering hoses from the control valve to the power steering pump? Did you go up the inner guard past the strut tower (close to the exhaust) or under the lower control arm to come up near the oil filter (mine's a 289) and to the back of the ps pump? My 67 has some made-up hoses that loop down close to the road before going up the back of the strut tower - the hose has scraped on speed bumps etc a few times and one day it'll get bent/busted. I'm waiting on a reco ps pump and will replace the hoses as well, but some say to run big block hoses forward under the lower control arm then up to the ps pump to get away from the extractors.
Do you have any more pics of how you've run the pressure and return hoses?
No sign of my kids so I sat in the garage and had lunch with her,she didn't think highly of my egg and lettuce sandwich. So I started her up and gave her a drink and a rev,all is good againLOL
Brother in-law earnt his keep

Hey Matt, I don't know about your brother in-law earning his keep, by the look of it I think you would just do what he told you to do.
Good job on the heater box. :thumb:
Quote from John (birdman)
`Replaced the muzzy's tyres with a set of dual redline ones`.
Looks great john, it'll go faster now!
Cheers
Matt
Thanks Andrew, will drive it and let it settle, maybe a touch out on the drivers side back corner, a tad high :event:
Looks great Matt. Well done

I think the original cross ply tyres would of made it that just a little better. Still very nice.

Trust me I thought about it long and hard but I do some miles in it. Those cheese cutters are a huge ????????????? On safety. Those cheese cutters.
What you running on yours?
Investigated the leak from the master cylinder on my 1 week old 68 fastback.
Turns out the previous owner had the diaphragm gasket on upside down.
What next??? :ouch:
I will be doing another axle seal on my car on Sunday, I had already done them before, but apparently the driver's side is insistent on leaking, so I'm going to look at it again.. :ouch:
Look for a little groove worn into the axle itself done by the seal over the years. This may be why it is leaking.
If the seal has an internal spring that can pop out, not familiar with the seal sorry, but if it does, remove it, find the join and undo it. Snip a few mm off the female end, rejoin and refit. This will tighten up the seal a bit and hopefully take up that little bit that you need.
Fitted a Dakota Digital VHX cluster to my '66
Straight forward job but had fun setting the speedo, all sorted now though.
Will hook it back up today and hopefully will be all good for the run out to the All American Day tomorrow. :smile01:
My 66 overheated over the weekend so checked the thermostat to find out I did not have one. Bought a new one and installed it. Then first lesson learnt about installing it properly after it started to leak as I didn't have it seated properly so took it all out today ready for a re-fit once I buy a new gasket.
Drained the radiator ready for removal and broke the plastic drain plug at the bottom while I was at it. It will definitely have to come out now just to get the bit of plug out that is stuck in the thread.
Picked up the cleaned out radiator for the 66 and visited the Boss.
finally finished fitting a Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold, bolted her on with ARP polished stainless fasteners, finished the aircon relay wiring and wrapped it with painless powerbraid, polished the compressor and took her for a scream around the block to tune the secondaries air valve to the new intake.
yeah baby this manifold makes a massive difference i tell ya.
I guess I just don't have the trouble with getting spark plugs out that you guys do... :lmao:

(The engine bay has been tidied up a lot more since that photo was taken!)
Friday morning I swapped the old fan belt which was starting to come apart, it almost snapped when I folded it up to get a new one!
.. Thursday afternoon I got the rocker cover to seal properly before going for a drive
You need some shorter leads.
I know your feeling GT350H.
I have at least ten modified sockets in my toolbox to cater for all diferrent engine types i have to work on with extractors. Windsors and small block chevs are the most difficult ones due to ther compact designs.
To answer your highlighted question, NO. You have to make your own. The last one I have modified I had to weld a nut on the end of a normal spurk plug socket so I can put a socket on top of the socket.....get it?
Cheers.
Another trick is after you get the plug loose ,take the socket off and get a piece of 3/8 fuel line about 50/60 mm long and slide it over the plug and just unwind the plug out ,helps to not drop it also .To refit do the same until tight then nip up with socket .Can also help to grind around outer edge of plug socket if its too thick ,cheap brands are .
Well it wasn't today but I did get excited on Saturday and wash her..... :thumb:

Did you take the engine out also to wash it . :thud:
Did you take the engine out also to wash it . :thud:
Thank god you dont own a convertible ,you would take the roof off when washing the car . :lmao:
I saw a guy hosing out of the boot of his Falcon the other day.Thats one way to get rid of the blood ...........:bolt:
Well,
Experienced some radial ply separation (massive egg on tyre) on the L/H/F
That was exciting enough until I went to fit the spare-Wrong rim.
Had to swap the tyres over from the rims. :toetapping:
Haven't used the tyre levers in a few years but all went well and back on the road.
Now to get some new tyres and find a rim for the spare.
Always something to keep me amused...... :smile01:
Peter.
Today is my Mustang's 45th birthday so she came out for a drive to take the kids to school!
Ordered a car cover for the new Boss
Due to other commitments, the '68 coupe is sitting in the garage for longer periods without being driven, so bought one of these today to keep the battery in good shape. :smile01:

Got the Boss registered :pepper:Great news Mark.
gave her a wash, dried her up, then waxed her with some Turtle Wax Ice.Car looks stunning Ron.
she's all shiny, silky smooth
Fuel in your tank is cheaper than a tow truck ride home .
Probably not by much though! :lmao:
Went for a drive ( yesterday afternoon ) came back on the back of a flat deck
(http://i1086.photobucket.com/albums/j441/Rapid428/4F3031E6_zpse5c29475.jpg)
All was going well then after 1 hour the car just cutout and rolled to a stop :thud:
So today will be spent fixing the issue once I find what the problem is, car was running perfectly so thinking it will be fuel or electrics .

A quick wash and minor detail on Saturday.
Went for a local run and took some random shots on Sunday :thumb:
Hey Matt, looking good - picture perfect. :thumb:
Cheers Andrew, 'The man of mystery` where you been hidin`?
Will we see you and your car anytime soon
Took her out for a long drive in the Adelaide Hills to a winery, for a bbq lunch with a few other cars .

Picked up my new plates at the Motor Registry this morning, was surprised by the extra detail with the lighter stars in the background. Not sure why they don't have the holes pre drilled in them though - they would be in a standard position for all American cars?

got new suspension fitted. i didn't go too low, just enough so its comfortable and I can steer and also not rip out my full length headers. just a bit of a tuck front and back.
5 leaf reverse eyes in the back, pedders sports ryda springs in the front and new sports ryda shocks in the front. new U bolts.
got a new wheel alignment to the specs that I've seen floating around on this forum.
tonight I'm getting the front left guard rolled a little more as its rubbing a bit, and I've got a guy coming to remove a dent from the bonnet as the wing nut on the air filter punched it a while back.
heres the new stance.

Took the Boss for a nice drive to help run it in.
GREAT RIMS - American Racing? What type?
Got the Seducer out from under its cover and joined BossHogg on the run to Belmont 16footers where we met up with other members from the Central Coast Brumbys and Newcastle Chapter for a nice lunch overlooking the waters of Lake Macquarie. Finished up with 32 members enjoying each others company.
Got home to find a 69 Mach 1 sitting in my drive and thought I was getting an early Birthday pressie. But not to be . A local couple had just purchased it and were looking for some info.looked like a nice ride.Possible future members.

Yesterday;
Went over to a 'not-so-car-obsessed' mate's place to help him diagnose what's wrong with his Falcon.....
Who knew 40+ year old Fords are more reliable than 10 year old Fords?? :lmao:
After that we went out in the Stang for a cruise...
Spotted MY 390 heading over to Riddells Creek so we decided to follow along for a quick catch up.
Then we saw a very mean sounding 68 SS Camaro convertible, it was burgundy with white rally stripes... Wrong pony car, but it sounded pretty nice!
Then we saw a gorgeous black on black 65 T'Bird convertible and on the way home I spotted a 63 Galaxie 'vert and an HQ Monaro.....
.... You'd think after seeing all those 'verts I'd want one.. Especially on a day like that when the sun's out and there's not a cloud in the sky!
... Not really, I love my coupe, I just wish I had a V8 so I could keep up better!! :nopity:
I converted my T code to a V8 but only because when I bought it the 6 had been removed and I was supplied with a V8 that was outside the car. You can still have fun in a six and a six will move very fast with some work to the motor, in any case if you can't keep up, you'll eventually find them as they are getting their speeding tickets issued, that always slows them down in the end.. There is a club called Mustang 6, it was started by a member of VMF here is the link http://m6a.vpweb.com/ (http://m6a.vpweb.com/)
Went to get a wheel alignment and found out my upper ball joints are faulty. Weird as they are only a few months old. A fail for Scott drake on this account.
So I've decided to replace them with some Teflon based ones on both upper and lower control arms.
Then I'll get my alignment done.
Were they really worn? or did the wheel alignment guy just want to change them as they always did back in the 70's-80's on Falcons etc because they didn't understand how they work. Plenty of good joints have been chucked in the bin in the last 45 odd years. Always only use black moly grease them not yellow lithium grease in ball joints. Lithium type greases are for things that roll, black moly type greases are for things that slide, ie ball joints and the inner pivots on the top arm. never mix them, Moly grease in bearings will kill them as the rollers will skid not roller.
late post...
well not today but throughout friday night til 1am... had to have it running sat morn for the 50th anniversary run in sydney!!!
brake booster crapped itself earlier in the week and locked the brakes on as a result, so got the one id previously replaced down from the shelf and bought a XB master to save space. had new m/c brake lines made up and called in Birdman to help with the bleeding process, was more like a bleedin' process i tell you.
couldnt screw one of the lines into the master no matter how much we tried, turned out they gave me one odd fitting that was 0.5mm too large dia. so off to a mates place at 930pm to rethread it down.
got it bled yada yada yada the bloody brake lights worked intermittently and then not at all. this took ages to figure out why the switch wouldnt work in position but would when removed it to test.
NOTE: turns out that on repro switches the metal plate that actuates the spring/switch is thinner than the OEM and therefore bends down on the edges so it swiveled on its axis rather than compressing to operate the switch. the fix is to bend the plate straight and then hopefully find the original that you didnt throw out and hit it with electronic parts cleaner.
very big thanks to Birdman john for late night patience and adding to my turrets syndrome. youre a good man.
He decided to back away from the bowser in his ute. :wtf: Not much damage to my car but the conversation and language would have taken a whole different track if I'd been in the Mustang. :argue:

Polished the wheels and all chrome work. Next is a good waxing.
For the first time in 2 weeks l am giving the Green Machine a bit of a rest after the Nationals. The old girl did pretty well with and the judges & it was pleasure to drive her home.I got home on the Monday and thought thats it, Im all Mustanged out for the week.
Wife said let's go for a drive yesterday, so we went down to Robertson pie shop for lunch with the Mach 1.What a great day for a drive ,no traffic and the car ran perfectly.(It's the first long run since the total mechanical rebuild.)
Had Matt (Mattstang) come over and helped install LED tail lights with yellow blinkers, really happy with the way they look and work.
Big thanks to Matt for his help.
Cheers
Keith
Joined about 40 others at The Entrance for the All American Muscle Car Show. Great day, only down side was a pelican that dropped a bomb from a great height, luckily most of it missed the Stang but the rear bumper copped a hit!
Mr Percival strikes again, I was lucky with nil strikes :thumb:
fitted switchback LED's to front with 64 1/2 clear lens. ive never been a fan of the park/indicator orange lens (ive had a few guys say similar) so i finally got around to using these LED's ive got a while back. as per photos - white park light and orange indicator. so i bought the lens today and rob who sold them to me said he's always wanted to do this too.Hey Greg. Can you send me the link for the LED's. I want to make sure I get the right ones.
total cost LED's $18(eBay) + lens $20(parts supplier)
too easy. :thumb:
I don't know about haunted roads...
I just think there are little monsters in my engine that keep eating the oil up and they start banging on things when they want more, and if they are unfed for too long, they start breaking things in the engine bay.
... I have been told that when I jump on the gas, there are small puffs of smoke out the tailpipes but I am yet to see anything while it's idling. The oil level keeps dropping though, odd..... :lmao:
Maybe you need a new coil, Paul?
I'm not great with electrics, but I remember reading somewhere that particular coils may need resistors (or something like that) to reduce the current from the battery... If the coil keeps heating up something is definitely not right though.
Paul does your car still have the ballast resistance in the loom? There are 2 coils one to use with ballast one with out, it will have use with resistor stamped on it, which means if you don't have the ballast it will cook. If your car does have a the ballast and you use a standard 12V coil you will have a weak spark as you will only have about 8V at the coil not 12v.
Paul If your car has the original harness the resistor is built into the loam under the dash it's not a separate thing, its a piece of resistive wire. The way to tell if its' still there is to measure the volts on the coil while cranking to start, it should be battery volts ie 12v, once it starts it should drop to around 8v while running, important to get it right, or you'll be in strife again one way or the other. The on you have is non resistive type designed for XC with electronic ignition. It need 12v all the time.
Maybe last drive before winter lock down.
I know what you mean.
It was that cold yesterday that I had to wear shoes when i walked the dog.
I know what you mean.Must have been very early in the morning or your blood must be thinning

Pulled the heads off to chuck a set on that I had a go at porting....also put a new cam on lifters in.
While I was there I thought I'd check the bore and stroke....seems I have a 302...always thought she was a 289
Hopefully finish her off next weekend
Got my new old wheels - thanks tempest.

Cheers Mark, bought them as I was planning on putting the car in to some concours events but found out yesterday they are not doing concourse at this years NSW State round up. Might have to drive over the SA next year for Nationals!
Took the Boss for a nice drive to run it in a bit more
Took the Boss for a nice drive to run it in a bit moreWas thinking about you today.
I can't believe the scratches and dents that appear on the car when I have sent it to different places to get worked on.
That is one reason I would prefer to do the work myself.... Nobody will ever be as careful with my car as I am...
.... Another reason being that it is far cheaper to do repairs myself than to pay somebody else to do them... As long as I do them properly..
I'm the same I do everything myself unless its over my head.
Painted the grill and engine bay in satin black. :cheers:Getting ready for concours John

I drove her home for the first time today . Could not wipe the smile from my face the whole way home :burnout:
Got her out and gave her a really good clean and polish ready for tomorrow's All Ford Day, as she is in the 1966 Display.

Thought after sitting out in the rain for month my car would be washed after my last bush bashing drive...
It wasn't.
I still couldn't tell if it was a GT350 copy or not.
After a run through the Caltex car wash it was of to the shops to do some shopping.
Nothing like parking in a shopping centre car park
J1
JESUS!!!!!! mine went in the rain for 1 minute today and that was giving me a heart perpetuation...This would do me in lol
Got mine all prettied up for All Fords Day tomorrow. - checked air pressure, filled up with petrol, gave her a tub and blow dried the fox tail.
Then had to ring Big Al and pull out due to my best mate having an accident (ok, but need to be there for him more than at a show. - he's like a brother to me.
Replaced the voltage regulator, now battery is charging
Geez it sounds good revving through the gears  - just a totally different sound/feel to the new cars.
Swapped out the styled steel wheels for 7inch, with 215 tyres all round, loving it.
Another shot, still thinking of adding the white wall, perhaps you can photo shop the white wall onto the wider tyres for me, so I can see what it looks like, but only a small white wall, like it used to have, as seen in my avatar.
Oh boy, Here's a couple of pics griff, be gentle....
here you go keith. rough as bit of photo doctoring but you get the idea.
choice of white, red and bigger ass rims!!
cheers griff
Tried to fix the dead fuel gauge so got behind the dash to changeover the Constant Voltage Regulator, no fix as the new one made the fuel gauge work but the temp and oil pressure gauges were no good with the new CVR.
Did find something interesting behind the dash attached to the loom that gave me a bit more information on her.

That's a pretty car  that's ok ,it's not like he was talking about the male owners .
:thud: you think so ? .
Gave her a bath, then took my daughter for an ice cream which put 2 hrs worth of miles on the dial. Most expensive 30c ice cream ever. So worth it though.
Trial fit, just sitting to check hood clearance, all good
of course it does Gaz and it looks the tits! performer rpm? :burnout:Yup mate, & when its runnin', I'll be over to visit U at you shop, maybe a few weeks as I am relying on my 2 sons help, they are starting own business, panel/spray painting (mainly resto)

As it was an option in '68, changed the standard gas cap for a pop-open gas cap. Also replaced the banged up gas tank filler pipe and body gasket plus the fuel filler hose with a much heavier duty one with 'Autolite' logo and new gas filler neck clamps. This looks to have cleared up the very slight fuel odour in the trunk.

Then finally got the '68 coupe out of the garage and took it for a good run. :smile01:
Looking nice and clean mate. So when do we get to see your one and only?
Cheers

After purchasing a Tefba filter from a fellow member, thanks Moe. Finally got around to fitting it.I got one also and u have just reminded me to fit it.
I got one also and u have just reminded me to fit it.
Was it cut and connect or did u have to cut a section of hose out ?
After fitting the Tefba filter i added some radiator flush. The results below. I was impressed,

Home made Remote electric trunk release and LED lighting in the trunk as well :thumb:
Paid the rego $1006. Ouch  That's full rego in Qld. We don't need annual inspections. Out of interest what are other states like?
Got in and out of it of what feels like 4000 times. Drive down driveway, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, daughter's school, son's school, shop, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, drive up driveway, drive down driveway, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, court, back to shop, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, drive up driveway, drive down driveway, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, daughter's school, post office, back to shop again, son's school, open gate, drive through gate, shut gate, drive up driveway. Maybe not 4000 times, but enough...Time for an electric gate.. :evilone:
And a well deserved break Herman. To get a Gold and a Silver at Concours says just how much you have done to them both in the past couple of weeks. Well done to both of you. Thanks, we are extremely happy with the results & l'm not allowed touch Rusty anymore!!!! :evilone:
Thanks, we are extremely happy with the results & l'm not allowed touch Rusty anymore!!!! :evilone:
Turned the tyres around to have the white walls on the outside again. Not sure which looks the best.
If I don't find an original spacer aftermarket will have to do. Rocket ind have plenty. That original 4 blade fan works very well. I have felt the air come through,I couldn't believe it.
Thanks Glenn
Hi Birdman
Give Barry a call at Early Pony Parts 03 5443 1841, as he may have exactly what you're looking for.
regards
Put the finishing touches to it...washed it.... drove it for the first time....booked in to get engineered Monday
Now that's VERY nice!
luvhev
Took the girl to another brake "specialist". Maybe they can find why I can't lock the brakes.
New ceramic pads as well as EBC greenstuff pads both improved the feel but not the braking. Boosted pedal still goes HARD before wheels lock but there is still plenty of travel left before mc bottoms out. They are checking the booster first as all else has been replaced.
Replaced the broken fresh air vent cable. :smile01:How did u find the quality of the cable ?
Put the finishing touches to it...washed it.... drove it for the first time....booked in to get engineered Monday
Finally replaced the broken hand brake handle. Maybe I wont cut my hand every time I park now.
How did you manage to get the old handle off?
I tried knocking the retaining pin out and it just won't budge! :ouch:
I don't think it was the original pin on mine as it was a screwin type pin. Just needed an Allen key to unscrew it and take it out.
Got Blue Slip.....Got Rego......Got to go for a drive.
Worked on my 302 roller, it's a mix of AU short block with the heads and cam out of my EB early forged Pistons 302, the EB motor has unknown miles on it but the AU block and reciprocating assy looks new, all nice honey coloured.
These ones.

Cleaned up the engine bay and dropped the 347 stroker in.....should be taking it for test drive on the weekend....fingers crossed
That looks awesome! It's amazing what a few cans of paint and some elbow grease can achieve!
The new motor looks great too..
New limbs & joints, springs & Koni shocks....now complete & wheel alignment tomorrow. Also whilst on the hoist, C4 o/haul (leak), had extractors ceramic coated, rear main crankshaft seal replaced, new engine & tranny mounts, tranny oil cooler lines replaced, all reinstalled old parts painted, under guards painted.
My 2 sons opened a workshop early October, "Corey and Troy's Garage" @ Kingsgrove, so I wanted to be one of their first customers, PAYING customer I might add, but all to get them on their way.
Hey Gary, the undercarriage is looking great. Well done. Good to know your boys are up and running. Might need to pay them a visit one day.:thumb:.....John, just let me know so I make sure I'm there. BTW, Pat had his XR6 there yesterday, new front discs & pads all round.

All very busy ATM & gr8 to see so signage is not major concern.

Fitted new AC systemWas this a kit ?
Was this a kit ?
If so , where from and is it hard to fit ?
Today I have been busy..
I removed the front seats, dash trim, instrument cluster, radio, glove box, steering wheel, and stripped down the driver's door so that I can repaint the dashboard and inside of the door.
I also started sanding the inside of the driver's door and masking up the rest of the interior so I can sand, prime and paint it all.
Pics to come soon....
I installed a radiator overflow/return bottle.Did this yesterday along with an oil change.
Did this yesterday along with an oil change. Not bad. I relocated the solenoid to the shock tower and mounted the bottle on the apron between the battery and shock tower. I had to buy some longer tubing and some P brackets to make it a nice tidy installation. I ran the tube around the upper edge of the engine bay, just below the guard, and then under thu lip of the rad support panel.Clear as mud!
Not much room for the overflow bottle in a 68.
How did u fair ?
New fuel pump.
Reco'd alternator.
Then tucked her up into bed for the night.

I like that cover
From Covercraft http://www.covercraft-pacificshop.com/ (http://www.covercraft-pacificshop.com/). Very good cover, but not cheap (over $500 including the optional Gust guard cover clamps and Mustang logo).
Well not just today but over the last 4 days, I have fitted new upper control arms and Idler arm (Old ones were less than 10,000 Klms old) as old ones were flogged out already. Had a new front R/H tyre and wheel alignment done due to the flogged out items.
Fixed my wiper transmission arm as drivers side wiper had a lot of play and would only wipe around 50% of what it should unless the wind caught it and then it would wipe 130% of what it should.
Put a new roll pin in my steering wheel boss so now my indicators self cancel adjusted my weather strip window guide at roof, made a few adjustments to my cowl and now it drives the best it ever has since I have owned it with no rattles and hopefully I won't ever again hear my missus telling me that I still have an indicator going.
I took it for a 3 hour run yesterday through the back roads to Murwillumbah and I can for the first time say I totally enjoyed the whole run except for getting caught in a light shower and now the car being dirty again.
Got myself a C-Tek MXS 5.0 battery charger and put it on the battery last week in reconditioning mode initially. Then left it on trickle.
Started the car today - amazing how much difference it made. I thought I had a pretty good battery (came with the car 2 years ago) as it has always been able to handle a lot of cranking when the car has been sitting for a couple of weeks. But after reconditioning/trickle it was cranking the starter at about double the speed!!
Definitely worth the $98 delivered (eBay)
Made myself a solid lifter ready for the forthcoming head job.
Id be interested to know what wad involved in the repaint, I bought thw right paint for mine but haven't done it yet.Mainly preparation time.
awesome tech tip, if your to lazy to take the dizzy out like me and need to tape up round things, aluminium foil wrapped around them saves alot of taping and time :thumb: it conforms and holds it shape really well.
put a chrome dress up kit on haha just kidding, cleaning up the engine bay, previous owner did a horrible job.

Just checked my Decode sheet and realised that I missed a 50th birthday. Our coupe was built Feb 3 1965. Dont know why but I kept thinking it was May.
I received these by the nice man in a big truckNice,
They are the Dynacorn 15 x 7.Good price , so are they steel or alloy?
I shrunk the photo too small but they do look good.
At $1,195 for 4 landed I'm pretty happy with them.

Thank God it wasn't the mustang Rodney , with all the bad luck you have been having .Tell me about it, I hit the roof when my insurance company wanted to charge me the excess when I was not at fault and had the other drivers details but they came around very quickly once I questioned it.
Don't think Mal does autos.
Aaron, give Bob Grant a call in Brisbane - http://www.bgaauto.com.au/ (http://www.bgaauto.com.au/) - haven't dealt with him myself but he has an awesome reputation in drag racing circles.
Good luck with it.

Better than the carport it has lived in for the nearly 3 years!!
very nice Shane... :thumb:Thanks Macca.
Only needs three 4-post hoists to complete itThe intention is at least a 2 post hoist. Don't really need the 4 posters until I get some more cars (could be a while yet).
Well back up the bragging rights Shane and do some donuts in that Airplane Hangar, I wanna see tyre marks haha! :burnout:It's almost big enough for it! An indoor arena for this lovely Melbourne weather.
Got some new shoes.

Its a csrp kit with rda rotors and ebc pads.Cheers! Have you got a link to where you bought the CSRP kit from, or did you buy from them direct? Looks similar to the kit sold by Custom Mustangs.
Calipers i painted with a close match to the car.
Just sat and looked at it. Better than watching tv!
Hey Rodney now you can be a friend of Barnett468 also  :lmao: . And they dont come that shiny from the factory ,not suppose to look like chrome . They will be ok when some dog pees on them . :lmao:No Mate,
Added a new toy (actually yesterday) to make it easier and safer to clean/work underneath.
Looking at doing this myself as my knees and legs are shot from the last few weeks under/next to the Mustang and race car. Was it easy to install? I would need the base plate version as I only just have enough room to get under the car.
For my Mustang, I stroked her gently to try to improve her mood.....

Another PWR John, they do keep the engine heat under control really well, and the finish, welds etc are really good.
Well not actually today - last Tuesday, but been busy:
- moved the stang into its new home

More like.. What have i done to it!
mid june engine out for rebuild and respray engine bay, intending to have it on road 1st dec given my self employed work schedule. stripped it out today being public holiday and have it booked in across road at spray painters for next monday.
times-a-tickin away!!
hi .. yesterday noticed a small hint of green round the lower rad neck, picked it up from the rad shop today, good as new.Western Suburbs Automatics at Moorooka.
ps , mojocoops who is doing your a/c install.
It`s normal to see water from a/c on the ground, as long as the drain pipe drains to the road you`re ok.So there's a drain tube out the left and right rear, the left runs around the back of the blower unit to join the right tube which then feeds through a hole in the floor.
People say it get's better, it has to, Is it true Mustangs are Chick magnets' ?It does, and yes they are!
It does, and yes they are!
What Did I do to the Mustang? I sold it!!
I did something that I thought I would never do, I passed it on to someone who will appreciate it more than I will.
Dont get me wrong, it was a fantastic car ( prepared by BIG AL's Mustangs NSW ) and I loved driving it, but time was the enemy.
The new owner is really happy with it.
I have a few spares that Im going to sell, including some 17x7 + 17x8 ShowWheels. I'll put them in the right section.
Only done 200km, bargain at $600 ( no tyres, no damage ).
Have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, hope to see a few of you in the paddocks.
Who knows, I might even buy another Mustang!!
Give me a yell if you would like the mags.
Cheers
John

Good luck bro with whatever you choose to do ...

66 Vert, saw you drive past my brothers house in the arvo.Cool Nick, hope you had a safe trip home mate.
We did just over 1000 ks in ours today from Redcliffe to Liverpool in Sydney.
Finally got around to installing the Borgeson power steering. Was a bigger job than I thought. Left side header had to come out to give the old box and new box space to go in and out. It ended up being a tight fit with the 351 and headers but there should be enough clearance between the box, hoses and exhaust not to cause issues. Worked well with the front wheels off the ground bleeding the system. Test drive tomorrow.
I reckon there would have been an awesome echo from your beast in that underground carpark Lou :thumb:Yeah Scotty the last time there i set off two car alarms, that's when you know your car's tuff
Today i am going to get registered and go for a wee drive :burnout:
are you having it tigged and clamps removed??NOPE!
Took my kids and the 65 on it's first Zippel cruise through the Adelaide Hills to a winery in McLaren Vale. Weather was perfect and there were classics and hot rods everywhere. Was great weather and a great event.
Installed my new (second hand - thanks Simon) Monte Carlo bar.
Ok, good to know! What about a panhard bar?Just did some (google) research and found that panhard bars are to prevent lateral shift of the rear axle assembly, usually if the rear has been raised, or for hard cornering (think racing application.) I don't see they'd make any real difference to a cruiser. Good shock absorbers are the best bet along with ensuring your rear springs aren't saggy with age and abuse. Lots can be done with leaf springs, depending on what you want and how stiff or soft you want the ride.

Put in a new set of Bilstein's on all 4 corners, front King's springs & new mid-eye springs in the rear of the coupe. What a difference all this makes! It is a totally different car to drive & handles like you wouldn't believe.
How is the ride height with the mid eye springs? Are they four or five leaf?
Thinking about doing mine but don't want to end up with the tail stuck up in the air
I will post some pics tomorrow.
Looks nice - are the wheels 14" or 15"?
They are 15 x 7 on the rear & 15 x 6 on the front.
Plus having two Mustangs is cheating  :thumb: :burnout:
Lookin good :thumb:
Just looking at the moment, getting itchy though.
Not real keen on lowering blocks - most likely go the reverse eye and reset them lower if needed.
Gotta keep my 14 inch "Ghetto Wheels" as Barnett calls them! :thud:
This weekend I enclosed the veranda section on my shed so now both of our cars can be together and not feel lonely anymore.Well done Herman. Must almost be time for that hoist?
:event:
wELL NOT ME BUT SOME OTHER LOW-LIFE
Well done Herman. Must almost be time for that hoist?
Pulled my seats out and delivered them, the covers and new foam to TheLittleTrimmer to be reupholstered.
nice day for a drive ...It was Tony, she sounded good bouncing of the buildings in the city mate. :burnout:
Started stripping off all the old paint in the engine bay. This is going to be a very long & messy job me thinks.
Went for a early morning run up to Maleny/Montville then a pit stop at Ricks garage at Palmwoods for some photos then back through the sunshine coast on the way home. Got rain on at Montville.
Bought her a friendThe "Friend" seems much younger, so now she is a Cougar instead of a Mustang.

Took delivery of a cargo net for the 2016 and fitted it. Not really much of a job but I got to do something with my Mustang.I bought one last February just after I took delivery, also the trunk mat, a gr8 investment
Pub run in 35 degrees heat. no problem :smilies:
Nice choice in `coolant`
After having a lot of trouble with the brake light switch after the power disc conversion I ditched it for a microswitch mounted on a bracket I made up and hose clamped to the steering column. Brilliant!is this a common problem, as I have been fighting this same problem. works 8 times out of 10. Had checked the switch and was thinking 51 year old wiring could be at fault
Less than $10 in parts (microswitch from Jaycar, hose clamp from Supercheap) plus a little bit of wire and spade terminals I already had and I have brake lights that go on with just a touch on the pedal (about 5mm pedal travel) before the brakes themselves are applied.
Dr Google indicates we're not alone.
Mine was fine with the old unboosted drums but a switch to boosted front discs made braking a way better experience but the brake lights stopped working. I initially made up a shim for the switch which partially solved the problem but the lights still wouldn't go on until the pedal was a fair way down and the brakes were being applied. I wasn't happy with that but the real problem was that even this shim caused the brakes to stick on once the fluid had warmed up and they'd been applied a few times.
So I've gone with a solution that takes the original switch out of the system entirely.
I am with you.I think there is 6-7 different switches for a 68.
Had exactly the same problem,
Did exactly the same fix.
No problems since.
I think there is 6-7 different switches for a 68.
I got lucky on my 3rd attempt.
Man/Auto, power/non power/disk/drums and what ur set up is determines the correct switch to use .
Not one switch fits all.

Cars n Coffee meet up
What a coincidence, me too!
Lou, to get the best effect from the air conditioning in a convertible you have to put the roof and windows up :lmao: . Yes I'm that smart to know this :thumb:
Went to Cars & Coffee in Brisbane :smile01:
Tell us the truth ,you fitted the air con so you could cruise with the roof up so your hair doesn't get blown around . Hey you going to the rust and chrome car show/event on Sunday at Norwell .
Good stuff Lou how good is AC!
Well , i have been installing the Mustang Steve brake booster mods including the fox body 9inch booster that sits hard up against the firewall so i can use my wilwood M/C. Spent the whole day cutting and welding and moving pedal pin location. Also have removed the power steering and installed 90% of the TCP manual rack and pinion which was pretty easy considering.
Had the Harrop 2650 Supercharger installed , 3" S/Steel Manta cat back exhaust with a 28mm drop on the suspension by King Springs on the 2017 Mustang
Fitted the Scott Drake 66 Dash Spacer Bar for the Air Conditioner in the convertible.
[/I've got one of those and couldn't find a place to put it. during the resto
