Jafs Cruise
« on: December 18, 2013, 03:21:49 pm »
Guys, looks like Jafs is on again this year.....

SOURCE:  https://www.facebook.com/JafsLastCruise

“Its official start will be Tea Tree Plaza. Saturday 28th December. Leaving at 8pm.

…Location is changing due to the boom gate installation at West Lakes. West lakes will simply be unworkable due to the sheer number of cars.
As far as I'm concerned West Lakes was/is the best location for a cruise. Just not a cruise with over 100 cars let alone over 1000. Maccas. Undercover. Close to beach route.
Anyway. Westfields policy is not going to change. Its free for 3 hours. And free after 6pm.
The cruise needs to move.

There is some criteria for trying to keep people happy. Space for 1300+ cars. Food and toilet facilities. Location within 15kms of CBD. Shelter is a bonus.
Main options are -
  • TTP, big enough, food but future boom gates.
  • Marion, big enough food nearby but future boom gates.
  • GeppsX Homemaker. Pizza bar. Toilets. 1380 car parks total.
  • Ingle Farm. Food. But unsure of room. Maybe.
  • Colonnades. Plenty room. No food. No toilets. Not central.
  • Seaford. Food but further away.
  • Bunnings -All- don't know of any with food and they would struggle on size.
AAMI Stadium has been suggested but is an open grasses area with no defined parks (outside not oval). Would probably need marshals to control. Which is currently not an option. This puts out ovals, parks, wharves or any other similar large open area not used regularly as a car park.

This may just be the last year its free. A small donation or entry may be required to hire a suitable venue next year. This may also be required to cover cleanup costs. It's not what I really want to do but it may also allow room to grow and improve. That won't be this year though.

There's still 2 months to go and there are options.

I'll let you all know.

Jaf”

Dale, I heard you need to get there early to avoid the line up to get in. A mate went last year and got there at 6pm and said the line up to get in to West lakes was over a kilometre long. If true, probably need to get there early, like around 4pm!

yes mate it usually is bedlam. Well in excess of a thousand cars all trying to get into the one carpark...unfortunatley it tends to attract more than a few Peanuts doing wheelies etc. Normally a very high Police presense

Happy New Year Dale! Just wondering if you took any pics at all, or if anyone else may have posted some?

Found some here via another forum, but that's about all so far.

I forgot that the cruise was on but turned up at TTP that afternoon at 6:30 to go to the pictures with the family and there were cars everywhere, huge turnup and lineup.

Yeah mwizz, it was massive. The most classics of all shapes and sizes that I've seen in a long while! Many cars there that I hadn't seen on the road since I was a kid.

Found this video - goes for a while but I saw Dale's car on there at 27:33.

Hi Dale, yeah if last years was anything to go by it should be huge. Planning to go as missed the last Zippel night and haven't been out hardly at all so far this spring/summer. Hope to see you there.

Update from the website;

"Love it or hate it. Start will be TTP.
Aiming to leave at 7.30pm (Saturday, 27/12/2014)

Was hoping/planning on a new bigger and better start point but isnt quite big enough.
2 things that must be stressed. DO NOT SELL ANYTHING THERE. Especially food and drinks. Council inspectors may turn up.
Lots of clubs and people have asked to do food/drinls for this charity or that. The answer is simple NO!
The other is simple too. Just take your rubbish with you or chuck it in a bin. Easy. Less mess= happy carpark owners.

Fast food outlets are notified and will hopefully listen and put on extra staff."

If anyone's not been before, I would suggest to get there a couple of hours before, as it's a huge turnout.

Cheers,
J.

Massive turnout....here's what Jaf had to say;

"Hope everyone had a great night. Cops were being cops it may have been a pain but I hope no-one was silly enough to get caught drink driving.
I havent had any feed back about defects yet. Which is a good thing. I'd prefer to only hear from the people it actually happened too not a mate of a mate.
As for the start it was mental. From a rough estimate it was over 3000 cars! Im not sure where we will go from here as i dont want to try and limit it to years or anything like that but we may have to look at hiring a venue which will incur costs. Hire, insurance etc so if that happens obviously there may be a small charge. Something i really dont want to do. As its more man power to run and its a cruise. Cruises should be free!

Next years date may also be more decided around shopping hours too rather than the current format if we stay with shopping centre start.
Venues that are big enough is the main problem. It was a problem with half as many cars but we have 11 months to work something out.
I'd love to get some support from a local council that wants an event like this to bring people into their area and have a contact i will be bouncing a couple of ideas off very soon.

I will have a debriefing with sapol and other concerned parties as to what worked and what needs to be done better in the next couple of weeks.
A few dickheads at the end revving the piss out of otherwise uninteresting cars ruined the end again. Also one wanker who even managed to blow his diff!
Unfortunately our night ended badly. The old girls starter motor cooked on the crawl into ttp. Got it fired to cruise but was toasted at Marion.

Finally a big thank you to all who came out and put up with the chaos of ttp. Dealt with the inconvenience of breathos. Cruised the beach to put on a spectacle no other state has. For the amount of cars and people i thought everyone behaved well and treated each other with the respect deserved.
Well done. Thank you for being a part of it.
Jaf.
