Gday guys recently i picked up this stang that a few of you may have seen for sale on ebay.
been looking for one for a while now and im very happy with what i got here.
Its a 67 t code fastback that has been converted to a stroked 351.
At first glance nobody could tell me much about the motor, the body was in good nick, within reason.
After finding the original paperwork i contacted the previous owner in south carolina, and he gave me a run down on the motor which i was very pleased to hear!
It turns out it might look a tad rough but this old pony has a little heart of gold.
Stroked 351 with 11.5:1 compression, big cam, milodon race sump, msd ignition and dizzy, and a alot of other bits and peices which ill mension in time.
Engine was rebuilt and worked in 2001 and barely done 3000 miles since.
seems to run ok but ill keep you all posted on how it comes along!

Bling up the engine bay and get a new steering wheel, you will have a show winner there :thumb: :fantastic:
-
I have now stripped most of it down and been repairing any rust and dents as i go, the doors were a mighty pain and have had a few good hits in the past, but good old hammer and dolleys sorted most of it out! i want as LITTLE bog as possible in this build.

Nice work in progress, that is!
Love those 67's.
-
Hi 77gze,
:welcome:aboard...
Your new ride looks to be a nice combination...Black, stroker 351 Windsor , 4 speed and 9" (I presume???).
Your thread post's up on the website throughout the restoration should make for interesting reading.
Best of luck!
Cheers,
Trans-Am:cool:

Looks awesome dude. Was seriously thinking about buying that car when it was on eBay, wish I had more cash haha. Will be good to see how this comes along :thumb:
-
its a 5 speed and a 9" detroit locker im told.
contemplating getting a second motor to take it over pits when the time comes. this one may give me grief with the legals, cams and whatnot.
Stupid emission standards
-
Well today i pulled up the riveted floors from the previous owners less than adequate repairs and found out my car is also a flinstone car :)

Well hello there! now i had to move house so progress was halted but now its full speed ahead! And im not happy with what i have found on the back quarters but i willl show you all soon.
In the meantime, a photo i took of my other toy that i built ground up about 5 years ago,
its a 1977 celica fastback with a 1996 1jzgte twin turbo 2.5L six in it, 9" diff, 360kw at the tyres and it only wieghts 984kg.
It is my inspiration but this is a good photo!

Ur doing a great job
I just find its amazing how a reasonable looking car
can look after its been stripped.
Cant wait to see the quarter panels.
Hope the rest of the build goes well.
Watching with interest.
67/68 fastbacks are my favourite.:thumb:

it is never ceases to amaze me how these cars always like great in photo's on Ebay & the like. Then folks buy their dream car only to find things like this...........Congrats to you on your determination to repair & restore your dream machine. I hope it all turns out well, keep up the good work & keep us all posted regularly.:thumb:
-
If you have ever been to the States you would know their idea of "restored" or "driver" is nothing like ours!
The hard work will be worth it in the long haul..
-
Wow there is some serious rust there. Fortunately we can get any repo replacement panels for our cars. Suggest you replace those frame rails though:thumb:

Well, whilst keeping in contact with the owner of this vehicle prior to me (had it for about 30 years) so the majority of its life, he was kind enough to send me some of the original photos of the car in the early days, and another couple of it once it was restored briefly in the mid 90's
So enjoy as i did!

I'm not doubting you have a '67, but what happened to the side scoop fillets on the back guards near the door? It looks like they've been removed to make it look like a '68.
-
The quarters were replaced in the the early years with a half quater piece if shit. Cut along the top corner of the panel. The guy that did it ecplained as a 15 yr old he cut the quarters off a coupe cheap as chips but they used to have the vents in them. Definatley a 67. I have the full history on it :) was heavily drag raced and definatly shows it but its a good fun history. Main reason i didnt want a GT or anything special with numbers is because of the mods i intend on doing when the body is finished!
-
IIRC 68 qtr panels are reproduced and 67`s are not.
Good to see ur hanging in there and sorting it. :thumb:
-
Its great you are taking on such a project but some friendly advice. You need to practice your welding because you have nill penetration on the top section of your torque box.
-
If that hood is fibreglass you may want to lay it flat. I hear that when they are upright, the fibreglass will sag over time and you'll end up with a bow in your hood; not that they don't bow anyway with hood pins and opening/closing them improperly.

Have you ever noticed how a lot of the yanks like to have their muscle cars sitting up high like a 4WD?

The photo is quite old though. Back in the 80's the trend in Aus. was raising the rear end.

That's pretty cool getting original photos of the car from so long agin, especially of an original owner, it's a great way of knowing the history of the vehicle, even if it's only briefly through a few photos.
Cheers

As a petrol head from the 80's it was all about dropping the front into the weeds...
