Title: L300 Front end for 67 Big Block
Post by: GOLDSCODE on June 25, 2010, 10:52:55 am
ShaunP suggested the L300 front end instead of the Mustang ll front end, seems like a good way to get more room in the engine bay of my 67, ie delete the shock towers, l fully intend on a right hook conversion, correct me if lm wrong but L300 seems like a  good way to go,
whats your thoughts ??

                         cheers Ralph:feedback:

Cheap, anyway if you can make it work ! I'd just buy one and see how it looks. The Rod boys mod them a bit, wouldn't be hard to find out what they do, I know guys with a couple in rods I could look at.

Thanks Shaun, My car will be more Restomod, than origional, just thought it looked a pretty clever way to achieve two things at once, ie Rhd and more space for decent pipes a cleaner engine bay and no hassle plug changes on a 390, im sure if you get over the fact its Jap gear and its a clean install, its all about building a better mouse trap,
cheers Ralph

I like the concept but there is likely to be a fair bit of mods to make it work.

If it was me I would spend the extra money and use something that has aready been sorted.

There was a 66 in street machine recently, with a Torana rack in it, setup by Taverna Chassis, maybe they've done others.

Setting up the steering for RHD is the easy bit, anyway. The harder part is the firewall and dash.

A mate is fitting a Jag front to his Customline, so they obviously can handle the weight.

I have a 63 Falcon XL ute project.  Originally I had the grandiose idea of fitting an 4.0 Turbo to it, shock tower delete using either the L300 or mustang 2 front end.

I did some research and found the M2 front end a much easier fit, with minimal difference in rail width (20 mm to be exact :smile01: )
I'm not sure, but i can check easily enough, but i think that the muzzy is wide enough to accomodate the M2 front end with no major surgery.

Where you may run into problems, is if you attempt a 100% delete of the towers. As you will be removing a lot of strength that has to be made up somewhere else.  However, if you retain the original top to accomdate an export brace, you can get pretty wild in the trim on the towers.

The major thing that swayed me to the M2 option, was the wide range of readily available parts.

As for the Rack, there are plenty of guys that have converted Mustang 2's about, a simple chat with one of them would tell you what to use, failing that most of the manual racks from the states can be flipped with minor alterations.

The kits out there to fit an M2 front end make it easy...someone else has already reinvented the wheel for you.

I think mustang 2 and fox body racks just turn up upside down.
