Automatic brake shaft
« on: March 18, 2021, 05:40:08 pm »
 Hi All
I have 65 coupe we purchased 4 years ago and I'm slowly fixing bits and pieces. She has been converted from a manual to an auto transmission, how do I know this? cause I found the clutch hiding under the carpet. I would like to remove the clutch however I've looked everywhere for an automatic pedal shaft part 2478 and can't find one. Ive seen the whole assembly but I'm hoping to save a bit of cash. I've also seen the repair kits with new bushings and new shaft but I assume they don't work. Do you just cut the pedal off,  replace the shaft with a bolt or is there a better way to do it?
Any help would be appreciated  :tissue:

The pedal boxes are the same for manual and auto. In a manual the pin is integrated into the clutch pedal. For an auto there is a separate pin that does the same job.

For some reason brake pedals for the '64-66 cars don't seem to be available from the parts places any more so you'll have to keep your eyes open for a second hand one. I had a couple in the cupboard for a long time but sold them about a year ago.

While it's not ideal, I suggest you just get the separate pin the auto brake pedal uses and new bushings in the kit that's available and use it with the small brake pedal for the time being until you can find a proper auto brake pedal.
